A medium and a worlock booked into the same B&B room. Whether it was an oversight or intentional it didn’t really matter. I loved Analise Lavelle’s character. She was very snarky and tended to over analyze everything. I very much enjoyed listening in on her conversations with herself. And Mr tall, dark and handsome Miguel Galvez was soooo swoon worthy. He tended to easily go with the flow and make the best of it. Another interesting character was the receptionist. A gum popper with long fancy fingernails sat at the computer. I could very easily picture her as a young clueless individual. Her interaction with Analise and Miguel was hilarious. This was such a fun book to read. I’ll be waiting anxiously for the rest of the series.

I didn’t really like this short book. It has swearing which I don’t like in a book. I received a free copy of the book. This is my voluntary review.

Double Booked was simple and short, but for what it was it was a good read. I enjoyed it probably most for the fact that I didn’t really have any high expectations, seeing how short it was. If I’m being frank, I was very open to the possibility that it was going to suck having bad experiences with novellas. Luckily it did not. I’m actually somewhat impressed of how suspenseful, dramatic and eventful the plot was with so little written.
The story had a very unpredictable premise and start which made me immediately warm up to the characters and story line. The mysterious Miguel added to the book’s potential. The fact that I couldn’t really tell what his intentions were made the it all the more compelling and dramatic as his flirting and personality clashed with the very much defensive and vulnerable Analise. Seeing as I love drama the book had no short usage of it. If I were to base it only on this then Double booked would be a five star story.
Sadly, I can’t give a novella that many stars. Because there just isn’t any way to get enough depth and complexity with that small amount of content. The plot and development was just too rushed to have the depth it needed. While I understand why it was rushed and brief it cannot excuse the lack of good and profound development. That was substituted for overly detailed history lessons instead. The focus for complexity was simply in the wrong thing. It should have been more focused on developing the relationship, personalities and conflict instead of the past leading up to the conflict.
I do however give credit where credit is due. This was by far the best short story I’ve read so far, making it very deserving of three stars. And I do hope C.J. Anaya will continue with this series, because I would like to see what happens, get the missing depth and hopefully it will derail from the too familiar plot to My Fair Assassin.
I am voluntarily reviewing a complimentary review copy of this book.

C.J. Anaya, interesting plot, with a historically WW2 based background made this book an original! Analise is a strong, likable woman. Miguel is a hot Spaniard with a tendency to be a little extreme. Then all of a sudden- mediums, ghosts, witches, immortal warlocks, and a magic talismans get involved. I got sucked into the story so quickly. I was thoroughly engrossed and loved every word.
