The New York Times bestselling first book in a dark new series that reimagines the Oz saga, from debut author Danielle Paige.
I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero. But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado — taking you with it — you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow … the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a road of yellow brick — but even that’s crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm — and I’m the other girl from Kansas. I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked. I’ve been trained to fight. And I have a mission: Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart. Steal the Scarecrow’s brain. Take the Lion’s courage. And — Dorothy must die.

Neat take on a classic story. It was NOT steamy….stupid thing won’t let me deselect that!!!!!!
Way too much bad language
One thing for this story you don’t even need to know any real history of The Wizard of Oz, I have never read it or watched the movie I just knew the basic story and it did not hinder me in any way in fact I kind of preferred it this way. Danielle Paige does such a brilliant job of setting up a dystopian version of Oz and it was perfect I could …
I really wanted to like this book because who doesn’t enjoy The Wizard of Oz. But I have to say that I struggled through most of this book. I think the author did a great thing putting her own twist on this classic adventure. There were parts that I really enjoyed and others where I wanted to bang my face into the table.
I want to say again that …
I just finished Dorothy Must Die, and it had a very original twist on the Wizard of Oz canon, which is one of my favorite storylines of all time. You should definitely check it out, but know it didn’t get more stars from me because it’s a series and not a standalone story. I’m tired of cliffhanger endings and not actual conclusions. If you’re …
Forget everything that you ever knew about your beloved Oz. Forget charming, innocent Dorothy, forget beautiful, good Glenda, forget cute little Toto, forget it all.
Once Dorothy went back home to Kansas, she wasn’t satisfied with small town life. Glenda brought her back to Oz and Dorothy weaseled her way to the thrown of Oz.
Now Oz needs a hero …
This book is an amazing take on the Land of Oz! I’m a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz series and I love this series so much! Original characters, superb plot while keeping with the original theme. Amy Gumm is a great heroine! I originally found this paperback in Costco years ago and I couldn’t put it down! I think the novellas are a perfect addition …
This twist on the Oz story is an exhilarating adventure. You will learn that what is valued most by one can horrifically change them in highly distressing ways. Ways that affect all of those around them to bear grotesque outcomes.
The magical and beautiful land of Oz has been transformed from a bountiful place to a wasteland. Gluttony, …
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a LONG time, because the original Wizard of Oz movie was my favorite as a young girl (back when it only came on TV once or twice a year). I loved the sassy, lively voice of the main character, Amy, and the colorful descriptions of the Oz world. I didn’t see the need for the bad language/swearing, …
New take on an old story. Dark and twisted, great for a fan of Dorothy and alternative roads she might have traveled.
