The Battle for Earth has begun.Victoria’s dreams of a cozy life as a small-town doctor come crashing down when the monstrous Kryptids make first contact. The alien invaders have only one goal: to turn Earth into a breeding ground. As she fights to protect her patients in their makeshift hospital, an even more fearsome alien and his beast enter the fray. She should be terrified of the male … of the male ominously named Doom. But she’s mesmerized.
As a genetically engineered war machine, Doom lives for a single purpose: eradicating the Kryptids. Coming to Earth with his brothers to save the humans should be a straightforward matter. But years of bloody battles throughout the galaxy have not prepared him for the fiery Victoria. Enchanted by the courage of that wisp of a woman, Doom offers her his protection and that of his fearless war beast, Stran, as she attempts to rescue other wounded humans. After disaster strikes their homeworld, the Xian Warriors now also face extinction.
Will the Kryptids finally defeat their only real threat, or will the delicate human that has stolen both of Doom’s hearts also be the Warriors’ seed of hope?

Starts off with a bang and keeps going! Good world-building and creative ideas. Loved the idea of the soulcatchers.
OMG!! Since I started reading the Xian Warriors series I have always been curious of how all this Kryptids invasion begin and how Doom and Victoria met as while. And I’m happy that we finally have their story it was good to know how their romance started and all the difficult moments they have to face to save humanity and Xian warriors.
This is a great series of Sci-fi Romances if you like shapeshifting, genetic engineered super warriors and kickbutt heroines. It also had excellent world building, something that can be a little on the light side is some sci-fi romance. But this one was great and it had lots of action and battles along with the romance.
I love this new world! And the characters are absolutely amazing!
Victoria is a courageous, selfless and devoted doctor. And when everyone is trying to escape the Kryptids invasion, she’s standing strong and remains to care for her patients.
Doom is strong, protective and honorable. He’s devoted his life to the war with the Kryptids and he and Stran are such a great pair. But I also loved how caring and loving he was with Victoria and the brotherly banters with the other Warriors.
Their relationship was wonderful – I loved the support, the care and devotion. Their attraction and chemistry is undeniable and scorching hot.
I really liked the idea of the Soulcatchers and the origin of the Xian Warriors – it’s original and very interesting.
Overall, it’s a wonderful story filled with action, suspense, twists, turns, battles, steam, drama, humor and great characters.
I loved it!
This is easily a 20 star read! This story floored me. Simply floored world building, The characters, the chemistry, the fight for your life feeling and the dread that’s instilled as these warriors fight for what’s right is just riveting. The romance, loyalty and love shared between Doom, Victoria and yes even Stran was amazing. The love of the other warriors was also amazing. The brotherhood. Their love of Raven (innocent look) was also the cutest thing ever. I’ve never read this author before but now I’m am instant fan. This story sucked me in right from the synopsis. I couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t put the book down. It was so amazing. The way she writes just ensnares you. This book was fast paced at times and it had its moments of when it slowed down to give the reader its lovey dovey times. I’m gushing over here! Pick this book up! This series is going to be amazing! I can’t say enough! 20 from me!
Victoria and Doom’s story was worth the wait. I ADORE this series!
A cool dystopian story with tons of action. I love a story that starts with the end of the world as we know it, but add bad butt aliens that eat people and then good aliens that live to smash the people eating ones and I am hooked! On top of all that, it has many strong characters, but Doom and Victoria are amazing together, both alpha types that get schiznit done! There are some parts that were a little wordy to me, but the exposition is tuff to throw into an action-packed book, so it did help the understanding of the motivations. I swear this book should be a movie, it was that good!
This book is the best prequel I have read. The way Regina tells this story is so seamless, that I had to check the publish date! Excellent Job!
I originally read Doom when it was released in the Pets in Space 4 anthology. But then the author released it in an expanded edition and WOW! This story was 5 stars as a novella, but as a full length book it’s 10 stars. I loved reading the history of the Vanguard along with Victoria & Doom’s love story!!! Just… almost no words. This book will be one that I go back and read many times over. I love the way Doom saves Victoria. And he says he will always return to her, but she doesn’t understand. She goes on thinking he’s gone. Doom is fighting for them even when Victoria doesn’t know it. The Xian Warriors series is one of my sci-fi favorites! Doom was epic! 5+++ stars
All the feels!!
I fell in love with this series when I first met Legion and the Xian warriors – be still my beating heart
When I heard we were going to get to see how it all started I was ecstatic! I’m not joking I couldn’t wait to get Doom’s story. To be there when it all began.
I’m so happy Abel gave this to her readers – She did not disappoint.
The story line captivated me from the opening scene and easily swept me up into the action and romance.
I felt a part of their battle, a part of their ragtag team of warriors and psychics and soul catchers
The world-building is so vivid I was there.
This opens with the Kryptids invading the earth.
How and why they rounded up the humans.
What the general was really up to.
The attack on the Xian Warriors home-world….
So many answers
Victoria is a breath of fresh air.
She is strong-willed but soft of heart.
Her aura was perfectly balanced.
Not too tough, not too soft.
She was believable.
And Doom?
Sheer perfection
Stran – where can I get one?
The rest of the Xian Warriors – I look forward to the journey
Excellent!
A very exciting introduction to the Xian Warriors who fought to keep the Kryptids from overtaking earth. The battles with the invaders seem relentless. Victoria, with her need to help whomever she can, soon runs into Doom and his team. I adore Doom’s companion, a Creckel named Stran. He’s an amazing, intelligent being who makes sure Victoria stays safe while Doom battles Kryptids. This is such an exciting story – edge of your seat action throughout! I love learning about the early years, and the Xian interactions with human women. Particularly learning about Victoria and Doom. What a satisfying love story! It was far more dangerous for Xian Warriors during that time period, when they were just learning of the skills earth women could contribute to the war against the Kryptids. Even if you’ve already read the books that follow, you won’t want to miss this story. It’s well-balanced between thrilling, deadly encounters with Kryptids, the struggles for survival for Xians (and their support crew), and romance at its best. Awesome storytelling!
So I started out liking this. It was interesting, it had a great take on the whole alien invasion (mostly because most of them do not involve other aliens saving earth). It had an interesting romance, genetically engineered beings. The author hit so many marks. But the time jumping. Wow. And there was no 2 years later heading to clarify. 2/3 of the way through its time jumped like there was no tomorrow. I mean it was insane. First, she was on the ship for 4 months then suddenly it’s 2 years later….uhhh where did that time go? Then suddenly the war is over, despite it seeming impossible before, and everyone is back on the home planet. This jumped so many years I am shocked everyone is still alive at the end. I feel like I know where they wanted to go with this but they didn’t hit the mark. It jumped too much in the last third of the book.
Wow, was this easy to read?
This book reminded me of the world invasion Wendy Higgins wrote in Unknown–the two aren’t that similar, but as I read Doom, it made me want to read the Unknown Trilogy again. But let me assure you, nowhere in Unknown do the aliens romance the humans.
The Kryptids have invaded the Earth, and Victoria has done her part using her medical knowledge to triage the wounded and care for the ill as a losing war takes place around her. Worse is the rumor that there are more aliens on Earth now, a different kind, there isn’t a way to fight the Kryptids and fighting something new will surely be the end to humankind.
Doom knows immediately he’s found his mate when he sees the most beautiful aura in the cosmos fighting off Kryptids in the streets of an Earthen city. He can hardly look away from her at first but must make it safe for the humans as an intergalactic peacekeeper.
Regine Abel does a fantastic job creating the world of Xians, expanding on the science of interspecies relations, and alien lore. I can’t wait to read the next book. Doom is just fueling the kick I’m on reading alien romances.
