New York Times bestselling author of The Good Girl, Mary Kubica returns with an electrifying and addictive tale of deceit and obsession
In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn Collins to wonder where Esther is and whether … Esther is and whether or not she’s the person Quinn thought she knew.
Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbor town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where eighteen-year-old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister than he ever expected.
As Quinn searches for answers about Esther, and Alex is drawn further under the stranger’s spell, master of suspense Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted thrill ride that builds to a stunning conclusion and shows that no matter how fast and far we run, the past always catches up with us in the end.

Engaging from beginning to end…. haunting and creepy….. to the end.
Whoowhee! What a wild ride. This book kept me riveted…once I was halfway through the book I could not put it down. Full disclosure…I skimmed lots of the chapters by Alex. I really could have done with less stream on consciousness and more action in his chapters. But that is my only complaint about the book…it is one terrific read!
How can I not give this book five stars when I devoured it in 24 hours? I thought I had it all figured out, and was feeling a tiny bit clever when BAM! Mary Kubica put in another few twists that left me both surprised and breathless. I’m not a huge fan of first person present tense but there’s something about Mary (see what I did there :-)?) and her style that makes it work brilliantly. Unpretentious, carefully crafted writing. I love it.
Domestic suspense lovers will rave about this book, and the characters will haunt them long after they’ve finished the last chapter.
Highly recommended – just like all of Mary Kubica’s other novels too.
This book is described as “A gripping psychological thriller”. I disagree. I was waiting the whole book for the “gripping” part to take hold. It never did. The story line is good, but there was so much extra detail that had nothing to do with anything.
Another great Kubica book. She is able to keep your interest and keep you guessing until the end.
Expect a good read
More mystery than thriller. Long internal monologues.
Pretty good
This was a nice story that pulled me in right from the beginning. It had a lot of twists and turns and a crazy ending. Would definitely read something by this author again and have already started reading “Pretty Baby”
Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica is a Psychological Suspense. This is the second book of Mary’s that I have read and once again it was a bit hard for me to get into the book, but I am glad I pushed through because it is totally worth it! She does a great job with twists in the books that keep you guessing. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Love Mary Kubica.

Loved it! Couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait to read more of her books!
Kubica is a relentless, deadly chessmaster: you won’t have any idea how her twisty plots are going to resolve until she chooses to unfold them for you at the tensest possible moment. This is my favorite of hers, though Pretty Baby is a close second. Thrillers that are truly thrilling.
I love her books
As with everything I’ve read by Mary Kubica, I was instantly drawn into this book. She writes so well and effortlessly brings you into the story, then unexpectedly takes a turn in a wonderful way that you would’ve never expected.
The book was ok. It is easy to read but was boring. It dragged and the ending was ok.
This book was good if you liked her other books. Keeps your interest and a quick read.
I wanted to like this but I couldn’t get into it. The progress was simply too slow. The premise seems great but unfortunately I got bored before I go anywhere near the reveal. I’m disappointed because the summary looked really good.
P.s. At what point will reviewers stop calling every suspenseful book about a woman the “new Gone Girl”? Not everything is the “new Gone Girl”.
I just can’t stand her writing style…..I have to wade through so many side stories to get to the point of the book. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and it is very frustrating.
