New Beginnings
I won this book from Goodreads giveaways. I was not asked to give a favorable review. I loved this book. Honor is trying to do everything on her own, her grandfather raised her after her parents abandoned her. She brought a house in a neighborhood renewing itself. But she is working hard and daily visited him with his dementia. Jason is the handsome next door who wants to help. His brother and nephew are living with him after troubles of his own. This book teaches a lot about dealing with family, and starting new.
Honor Brown pulls up in a U-haul to the house she just bought and catches the attention of the hot men next door. They offer to be neighborly and help her unload, Honor reluctantly accepts the help. Jason Guthrie, handyman, can’t stop staring at his new neighbor. He is instantly attracted and wants to get to know his new neighbor better and to do that he must stay underfoot and help her remodel and while doing that he must knock down those defenses she has built around herself. Show her the true meaning of family by his own example of helping out his widowed brother and teenage nephew.
Sullivan Dean, martial arts instructor, lives across the street from Honor and Jason. When he first spies Honor’s best friend, he knows that besides being beautiful that she is trouble with a capital T. Sullivan teaches control to troubled kids and has no time to for Lexie Perkins and her party girl ways but he just can’t seem to keep his hands to himself when she’s around. When he finally sees that there is a woman with heart behind her flirty nature he can’t help but falling in love.
Lori Foster is so great at creating communities in her books that I want to be a part of, and Don’t Tempt Me is no different…the location and characters just pulled me in! This is the first in a new series and after reading it I can’t wait for more.
DTM is such a heartwarming and feel good story. Jason is an upstanding guy, a hard-working family man. He’s smitten with Honor the moment he lays eyes on her. Honor’s starting a new phase in her life. She’s just bought a new house next to Jason, his brother Hogan, and his nephew Colt. She’s determined to do things on her own, even though she has her work cut out for her. She wants to stand on her own 2 feet and tries her hardest to keep her hunky neighbor at arm’s-length. (I can’t help using words like smitten and hunky- this book just calls for those types of words!)
Honor hasn’t had the easiest of upbringings, abandoned by both her parents it’s been just her and her grandfather for many years. With his health slowly declining Honor’s heart is breaking, and to make matters worse she has to deal with ungrateful extended family members. She’s pretty secretive about what’s happening with her life, I think in part because she doesn’t want anyone’s sympathy. The only person she lets in is her best friend, Lexie. Lexie is that friend we should all be so lucky to have! Although the main focus of this book is between Jason and Honor, we also get to enjoy a bit of Lexie and Sullivan- it was almost a story within a story. Although I would have liked to see these two a bit more in depth- Sullivan was quite the fascinating character, I couldn’t quite get a read on him.
I really liked how persistent (without being over-reaching) Jason was with Honor- he gave her the space she needed, but once she opened up to him he never let her close back in on herself. He showed her it was okay to rely on people, that not everyone expected anything in return. Hogan and Colt have been going through a rough time of it recently, and Jason has been there for them as well. He is such a good guy!
Don’t Tempt Me is a sweeter romance than some of Ms. Foster’s recent novels, and I thoroughly enjoyed the getting to know Honor and Jason. And I’m excited to see what is in store for Hogan- and maybe down the road, Colt!
It started off as an innocent mission to help out his beautiful new neighbor Honor Brown fix up her house, but the more time Jason Guthrie spends with her the more he wants to get know more of her, problem is she isn’t interested in any of that. She has her impenetrable walls up, and she is deflecting all the passes he makes, and leaving him confused, and driving him to prove to her that she can put her faith and trust in him. He normally doesn’t do relationships, feelings, or sticking around for more than one night… but something about this girl has abandoning his normal, and wanting something he’s never wanted before…forever!
Sullivan Dean learned the hard way that women like Lexie Perkins bring nothing but trouble to your life, so he does all he can to avoid getting involved with them, but for some reason the more he resists the stronger the pull gets between them. There is something about the beautiful blonde that he can’t deny and she has him abandoning everything he learned long ago to be true, the more he gets to know her, the more he realizes he may have pegged her wrong, maybe she is more than just a reckless party girl after all…
I absolutely loved this book, from start to finish, Ms. Foster has created some truly endearing characters here that I fell for as soon as I opened the book! They drew me right into their world, and captivated my undivided attention right up until the very end, and have me looking forward to a return visit! Anytime you have the opportunity to settle down with a book from this author I HIGHLY encourage you to embrace it with open arms, she has a knack for creating these intriguing characters that you can’t help but want to follow into their world and get completely swept up in their lives, and before long you find yourself being forever changed by what you find!
