The nursery rhyme was wrong. Words can hurt you.Ambitious, twenty-something FBI Special Agent Jade Harrington cuts her vacation short to investigate the murder of a conservative radio personality only to discover that he may be the victim of a serial killer.
If we stop to think can our president be manipulated by others? Will politicians do anything to advance their parties agenda? Will we come together as a nation or fail like every other country who has risen to power done so before? Those are the questions the book wants you to think about, but there is so much more.
This book is not about being a liberal or a right-winger it demonstrates how each party needs to think about what is said to another. How their words either detract or attract others to a call to action.
“Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble.” -Yehuda Berg
“Be careful what you say. You can say something hurtful in ten seconds, but ten years later, the wounds are still there.” -Joel Osteen
“Don’t ever diminish the power of words. Words move hearts and hearts move limbs.” -Hamza Yusuf
A murder mystery political thriller – I love this book! In terms of our next president I hope it is foreboding, regarding Jade Harrington, can’t wait to read more about her!
Good book. Was very surprised at who the killer was and their connection to another character in the book.
Written in 2015 and published in 2016, Don’t Speak reflects the political scene in America at that time. This thriller has a female, Whitney Fairchild, running for president against a conservative male incumbent whose strings are controlled by an ultra-conservative talk show host. Against this backdrop, Jade Harrington, a woman of color and an FBI agent, must find a serial killer who is murdering conservative talk shoe hosts. The story was entertaining, and Harrington is a prickly yet likable protagonist. Don’t Speak is Brown’s first novel, and she handles the various elements of her plot as well as the multiple points of view. It’s interesting that she chose to write the villain’s POV in first person. My sole complaint was that some of the conservative talk show segments are too long and slow the pacing.
really slow read
This book is liberal propaganda BS and outright reversing of the facts disguised as a novel. Liberals will love it. Conservatives will either throw it across the room or laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. I tried but just could not finish this book. I even tried going to the end and reading the last couple of chapters. Didn’t get past a few sentences before shutting it down. I’m pretty sure it is one of those free books, so nothing lost but time, which is, of course, very valuable. Don’t waste your time on it.
I think this is one of the best books I have read lately. Highly Recommend.
Some action and mystery, but the author’s ideologies were a little too superficial, cliche.
Don’t Speak is the first novel in the Jade Harrington series of thrillers. Jade is a former Stanford basketball player who played briefly in the WNBA and overseas, before switching career paths and joining the FBI. Her latest assignment: track down the TSK, the Talk Show Killer who is brutally murdering conservative talk show hosts nationwide, both radio hosts and internet bloggers. This takes place during a presidential campaign, so you know the rhetoric is ramped up, and emotions are running high.
.
I like reading thrillers, but try to avoid politics. There’s enough political drama on the news; I don’t need it in my books. Brown, however, has created a gripping tale of Washington politics and all of the associated back-stabbing and deceit associated with that word. This story is smoothly written, and the author has created a cast of characters that readers will like to come to know as the series develops. The backstories and pasts of the characters are not fully formed, which is usual for the first book in a new series, but Brown has started off on a high note. .
My Rating: 3.75/5 stars
Good read
Loved this book….could hardly wait to “get” to the ending…surprise!
if your idea of a good read is the lead character (an invincible woman, of course) spouting her philosophy of how the world should be then this book is for you.
I got through it by skimming whole chapters – much as I got through Atlas Shrugged (or was it The Fountainhead?)
Nice twist but weird narration.
Great twist ending
Hard to read
Well-done story of a serial killer, with a very believable background of politics. The “Whodunit” portion was not a particular shock, but that did not detract from the compelling story.
Great read. Super
I only started to read this one. and decided it was written by some left-wing Nut job, who only wanted to bash republicans.
Thee dalayed ending was interesting. I didn’t like the political commentary.
It was kinda intense with many governmental facts & terms, which can be hard to understand or keep the attention of the average reader. But I loved the twist at the end!
