Don’t Mess with Jess was well written. The characters were nicely fleshed out and the plot had a decent arc to it. The problem was I just couldn’t tell if it was trying to be a clean romance or erotic romance. As far as clean romances go it was well done, but I feel some fans of them aren’t going to like the spanking element. Fans of erotic romance are going to lament the lack of chemistry and heat between the two main characters. I would have enjoyed it more if the story had committed one way or another to what it wanted to be.

MacAllister Evans was Carly’s twin and Jess’s best friend and godmother to her son Sam. Mac was taking care of his nephew because his mom died after child birth of something that was not usual. Jess, Carly’s best friend had come to help Mac find a nanny for baby Sam. Sam and Jess were having problems trying to decide on a nanny for Sam until he could get his job where he could fashion it around Sam. Jess thought she really should have Sam because she would be the better parent but the problem with that is, is that she is not related to Sam and Mac was his mother’s twin. He was the closest relative that the baby had. Both little Sam’s parents are dead and Jess and Mac are taking care of him. They come to find out that Sam’s birth father had a cousin named Kelly and so she comes to see her little cousin because that is the only blood relative she has that is alive. While all of the trying to figure out what Mac and Jess are going to do, we find out that Jess likes spankings. Jess didn’t know where that proclivity came from but that is something she likes. Jess wants Mac to marry her and she asks him too. But her plan is to marry Mac and get her another degree more for education because she is a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. She was told while she was there that they were getting rid of her job because they were closing the private school she works at. She told Mac to spank her once and now he is giving her spankings regularly, she did not know that Mac was into this sort of thing. This story turned out to be okay. It wasn’t over sexual and it was just a good romantic story. Sometimes you just wanted to read a good romantic story. I would recommend this book.
