As the Light Festival draws near, the Něssyrians craft paper lanterns, awaiting the most important holiday of the year. The Lyliňg Fighting House, too, prepares for celebration—by laying fresh sand onto the arena and setting up a match against their top pit fighter, the unrivalled Yüuzuki Ōren. His last match. One he can’t win. With the odds more than stacked against him, the gorgeous Barbarian is … against him, the gorgeous Barbarian is as good as dead. Unless his lover, healer Ĥaiatto Ẽkana, proves himself every bit as determined as he is clever and finds a way to protect the man he’d stop at nothing to save.

Even if you think you hate short stories/novellas – check out Kasia Bacon’s work. Seriously, I cannot get over how she can make a 2 hour audio feel like a complete and whole story. Especially in a fictional universe with it’s own language, society, and history.
Note: While part of the Order Universe this can be read on its own. Honestly. There are names from other books mentioned, but nothing happens that eludes to other storylines/events.
Told entirely from healer Haiatto’s perspective – this is a beautiful story of a seemingly “weaker” mate doing what he can to save his warrior love. Yuu & Haiatto have such a deep love and respect for each other and the lengths they’ll go to in order to protect the other is so sweet.
Narration:
Michael Fox’s narration is lovely. He handles all of Bacon’s made-up names and words fluidly. It’s an easy listen.
Far from my normal read but a great book we’ll narrated.

“Don’t you see? It’s magic every time you touch me.”
I get quite giddy when I see Kasia Bacon has written another story in her truly engaging Order Universe. She’s fast becoming my favorite Author in the fantasy genre. She has created some amazing couples who I absolutely always fall in love with…From the beautiful scene settings, the addictive plots, the loveable characters, these short stories never fail to deliver.
Barbarian fighter Yuuzuki is resigned to his fate-he has one final match which he knows will only end one way. Time and circumstances are against him. His one wish is the safety of his lover, healer Haiatto.
“You’re everything I could’ve dreamed of. Everything I’ve ever needed. Perfect. You’re perfect. I want you to remember this. I just wish so damn much that I could love you for a little bit longer.”
Together for years, their love for each other might not have been vocalized yet but they both know it exists and Haiatto is determined to do whatever he can to save his lover-but what will the price be?
”Tell me, would you follow me if I found a way out?” His answer came in a heartbeat. “I would,” he said. “Anywhere.”
Prepare to be transported into the mystical, fascinating world Kasia Bacon has created once more in Don’t Fight the Spark-you’ll fall in love all over again…

So much story in a few chapters.
This is another excellent addition to this universe.
The writing is effortless, the storytelling superb, the world-building barely noticeable and yet so vivid.
I can’t wait for the next instalment.
