I honestly can’t get enough of Elder Prest and this book didn’t quench my thirst at all!! Dollars only made me want more and more and more of him. More of his flaws… more of his broken… more of his utter beauty. He was a man that captivated and enthralled and I was his willing servant. Move over Pim cuz if you don’t want his attentions, there are plenty of us who will gladly take your place.
He was the epitome of calculated and gorgeous. A man not to mess with. A killer never to disrespect.
I will admit that Pim pissed me off for pretty much the entire book. I’m aware that she’s messed up. I can acknowledge the reasons why and that she has the right to heal (or not) in her own way and time. However, the fact that she did nothing for Prest… absolutely nothing… and yet she got so freaking much angered me. With a modicum of gratitude, no respect or civility, and very little charm, she had completely turned this wicked man into her puppet. Without a word, she had him bowing and scraping and coddling and she humbled him. I hated every single minute of it.
A part of you was stolen, and you might never get that back. But what you will get in return is someone so much stronger than the rest of us. Someone who has lived damnation and survived.
I was waiting for Pim to show me some strength. Every time Prest gave her the chance to show him the warrior she was, she failed. She got angry and raged at the wrong things and at the wrong person. And instead of letting that rage fuel her, she kept letting it defeat her. Where was her fight? Why was Prest the only one willing to go to bat for her? And seriously, he doesn’t even know this girl and look at all he was doing and willing to do for her. I kept hoping he’d just drop her off somewhere, but I guess there wouldn’t be much of a story then, huh? The one thing I had hoped for after reading Pennies finally happened at the end of the book and that aggravated me more. However, Winters always keeps me hooked so as mad as I am right now, you better believe I’ve already got Hundreds ready to go. Fingers crossed that Pim doesn’t anger me further and that she finally reciprocates in a tangible way. Please let Prest get something for all his trouble. What the heck stops this chick from having a simple conversation???!!! She says he doesn’t deserve her words. What the heck did she do to deserve all of the luxuries he’s gifted her with? Survive horrors that he didn’t even bestow upon her? Show some damn appreciation!!
WOW! I forgot how emotionally draining and heart palpitation invoking these stories were!
Poor Pim, just when I thought she was finally in a good place, with a good man, she develops a whole other set of problems… like who is she now? She was someone with HIM, but now with Elder, she does not know her place and who she is supposed to be.
But then there is poor Elder, while fighting his own inner demons and past misgivings, he is trying to figure out the best way to make Pim see herself, how he sees her.
Pepper Winters writes these stories that stick with the reader, making them riveted and immersed in the words she pens, leaving them captivated and absorbed until the last page!
Wow, the last books in this series is an amazingly ending of this series. The first book Pennies blew my mind and did a cluster mind eff on me. I questioned the heroine and the anti hero a lot. In these last books or in volume 2 of the dollar series. Redemption is closer than not, more or less at the finger tip then boom something else happens. Then you think what the heck? Anyways, if you don’t like dark romance, this series is not for you. But, I am glad I took a chance to read this series. I hope you all do too.
I love Pepper Winters’ writing. It’s so descriptive, and relatable. I love books where I get to watch characters grow and develop, and I can’t wait to see Pim grow. Elder has his own issues, but he’s trying to let Pim heal. My favorite scene in the book was Pim in the storm by herself. Pim is becoming a different person, and I love that she is changing for herself by herself. I’m addicted and I can’t wait for more Pim & Elder!!!
Every time I pick up a Pepper Winters book, I steel myself for a dark journey. She writes dark, doomed characters that are compelling, their circumstances so bleak I wonder why I even bother until I saw the humanity.
Pim is afraid of and drawn to her darken savior. Will Elder be her new Master, keep her at his beck and call? When will he demand payment for his kindness? Ends in a cliffy. On to the next book.
Love this series
A completely wonderful series that starts with Pennies. Read it. Its dark, twisted and hauntingly beautiful. This series will ruin what a standard romance novel is to you and breath life back into a genre that can become predictable for some. I didnt realize that I could fall in love with characters the way I did reading this story of pain, change and eventually love.
“You owe me, Pimlico. I told you I wasn’t the hero.”
Dollars is a great sequel and addition to this series. Even though it had somewhat of a slow pace, it was very intriguing and I couldn’t get enough. I loved how Elder and Pim got to know each other, it definitely wasn’t easy or without hurdles. Especially Pim took small steps in her recovery and was very suspicious of Elder’s motives, which no one can blame her after what she went through. Pim lost her voice and herself during the two years she was kidnapped, tortured and abused. It was very heartbreaking to see how she dealt with her memories and the aftermath of her captivity.
“I told you you are worth more than pennies, yet you cling to a dollar as if it’s the sum of your value.”
Elder is mysterious, and a very complicated ‘villain’. He is in war with himself and doubts some of the decisions he made. The same can be said for Pim, she doesn’t know what to believe and what will happen to her. How can she be optimistic after all she has been through? She lives in confusion and is very suspicious of every thing Elder does. However she did grow stronger in this book, more than she already was. Even though she was broken down, there was still fight in her. Further into the book you could see how a new Pim was being reborn.
Like I mentioned before, this book was a bit slow paced but I think it wouldn’t have impacted me as much if certain things were rushed. The ending was very heartbreaking and had me teary-eyed, every emotion was so raw and real. I have no idea what will happen in the next book, and what Elder will decide to do but I can’t wait to find out. I am intrigued by both Pim and Elder, and they are a very strong match. I just can’t wait to see how much both characters will grow throughout the series and how their relationship will develop as well.
Outstanding story line, tumultuous relationship laden with heavyweight emotions , all very expertly flowing from Pepper’s Pen, trailblazing through your heart.
The story is very descriptive (I just wish it was more concise , because it sometimes hampered the flow and pace)
But JUST MY OPINION!
BUT …..Be prepared to sob hard reading the last chapter of the book
Soul curdling sobs, like your body is trying to expel the stubborn grief from your heart.
The story is again carrying on from where Pimlico , after being butchered , is saved & whisked away by Elder Prest. But there’s a very thin line between Damnation And Salvation !
So Taken by Elder may or may not be her salvation and his redemption
But it’s a very stormy voyage for both of them. The swelling , angry tides that toss them into a churning sea of emotions is not outside influence. It’s the internal yawing that rocks their lives and upsets their Automatic Ballast Systems.
It’s equally hurricane strength in Elder’s heart —–
She’d been lucky I saved her from that hellhole. Although, she wasn’t lucky I’d been the one to steal her. Pim was no longer in a tragic situation with Alrik. She’s in one with me.I’d already doomed Pimlico by deciding her rehabilitation was my burden. No, she would never be that innocent or happy again . Such hardship and evil she’d endured marked someone forever. Sure, she’d find pockets of happiness tucked in the overalls of life, but most of the time, those memories would steal her back, reminding her time and time again what she could never run from. I knew because that was my life. And it fucking sucked.
As much is it in hers —
My soul grew claustrophobic, as if it could shed this old carcass and find a newer, less broken one. What would it be like to have such strong emotions? To hand over your entire heart, never fearing it would be rejected? I’d known what that was like once upon a time. It’d been such a long time ago, I’d forgotten. Shared affection was as mythical to me now as breathing beneath the waves like a fish.
The ending though…oh my poor shattered heart !
The last chapter just slayed me . It’s like – Be Careful What you Wish For !
Elder wish comes true but he’s destroyed by the intensity of the emotions
Earth collided with Mars and Venus and hurtled into my chest to annihilate my heart. ——>And this is ME . And this will be YOU !
If you thought you had anything figured out in Pennies, then you were wrong. The mysteries surrounding these two will only increase the more you know. I bet you dollars.
Elder and Pim finish Pennies on a rocky note. The start of Dollars isn’t much better but the ending…YIKES! What a way to make a statement!
The tumultuous “relationship” they are in is sometimes too much and other times not enough. Both haunted by demons, they can’t seem to escape the tether connecting them.
Opportunities present and the situation changes. But did it get better or worse? Will worth be determined and found lacking? And whose?
I can’t wait to dive into Hundreds because I’m greedy. And it’s already on my kindle!

I love Pepper Winters work.
You can feel the agony, danger, passion. Pepper has a wonderful way with words.
H has freed the h in more than one way. But she still has a way to go, not to mention H has some issues to work through.
Loved this book 2md in the Dollar series
