This book, I don’t know how to express my feelings except it was beautiful. The h faced so much violence that even made me shiver but she stood resilient and strong.
H over here was less of an anti-hero but more of an hero who saves her, and it was swooning.
This story is full of triggers and it is a dark romance. This is another 5 star read from pepper winters.

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
This is the second book in the Dollar series. The previous books must be read in order to understand what is going on. This is a dark romance with two leads that have a lot of hurdles to overcome. Go in with an open mind.
I should’ve reviewed this right when I read it, but instead, I kept reading until I finished the entire series in the matter of four days. Well. Thank goodness I have hundreds of notes on almost every book of the series.
I found myself in my element in this book. I’m a female-centric reader; I don’t exactly know how to describe it, but when others swoon over male leads, I take closer looks at the female lead. And in this book, my baby girl went through some major shifts in her life. Rome wasn’t built in one day. My baby didn’t recuperate in one day either. I admire her strength and I wanted to hug and protect her so bad. When I reached the end of the book, I looked forward to what the future held for her. I wished the best for her.
I see what Pepper did; I think I notice a pattern after reading Goddess Isles although one can argue that she does so with both of her characters. What I mean to say is: Elder opens up gradually throughout the series. At first, he’s such a mystery. In this book, he still was. There were hints of what was to come and it was intriguing to see where it would all lead. He is so mean with his words. UGH. But he’s such a hottie. And our girl a hottie, too.
Phantom was a great and well-needed change of scenery. I thought I’d be claustrophobic, but in all honesty, I loved the journey the characters went on in a physical sense and not only the emotional one. I respected that it wasn’t insta-love. I rooted for my two little tormented love birds and I knew that it would take them a while to find to each other.
Will the real Pepper Winters please stand up? she has an award to pick up. FOR BEST CLIFFHANGERS EVER. Like damn, woman.
I recommend this to readers that want a story of perseverance, strength, love, loss and pain. This is very dark and readers should proceed with caution. This is Pepper Winters at her finest dark moments.
ORIGINAL COMMENT: The cliffhanger has me OWNED wtf WTF OMFG I CANNOT TAKE IT this book what a journey MY GIRL!!!! LOVE HER DEVELOPMENT. Elder………. we’re closer to figuring you out!!!
This book was such a mind f*ck. Elder is trying with everything he is to pull Pim out of her shell. To slay her fears. But also struggling with his own demons. There’s a war brewing in his mind. This book was amazing! Pepper manipulates words in her stories that make your mind as the reader snap. She twists your insides until you break with the character in her book. I love it!
Dollars continues from where Pennies ended and I’ve never been so pleased to have the next book in a series available to dive straight into.
I really do admire Pim’s strength. Rescued from what I will describe as everyone’s worst nightmare she finds herself in Elder’s…… care? Elder warned us that he isn’t a nice person so I feared that Pim was being removed from one nightmare only to find herself in a different one. I honestly wondered if she could survive what she had already been through but I should have never doubted her strength and determination. However, I know that there is only so much that a person can take before breaking, and I prayed that Elder would be her saviour and not her demise.
As much as I appreciate that healing takes time, I wished that the first part of the book had been faster paced. The latter part of the book when we start learning more about Elder and witness more interactions between the couple was perfect for me. I didn’t want to put the book down and read well into the night not caring that I needed to sleep. I’m desperate to discover what happens next and OMG that ending……. it killed me!
I’m seeing a side to Elder that I didn’t expect to see at all. I’m looking forward to discovering more about his past and his secrets and it goes without saying, seeing how his relationship with Pim develops.
Elder Prest. Saint or Sinner.
Promises of protection and no more pain.
With his past chasing him, can he keep his promises.
Make sure to read in order, is part of a series. Pepper Winters does dark romance SO WELL.
The story of Elder and Pim continues in Dollars, with Pim struggling to come out of such a harsh estate, it is a constant fight between them, not knowing how to act or what to do.. but in time both will find their rhythm to be able to finally move on.
“His voice fell dark and low. “I told you, you are worth more than pennies, yet you cling to a dollar as if it’s the sum of your value.”
in this Dollars we get to meet more about Elder, what drives him, his power and control, the way he is and the way he commands himself.. we get to see more of his word and his work.. he has a battle inside of him.. he wants her but has to hold himself not to hurt her.. but time and temptation is bigger than his will and sooner or later he will break down..
“Elder Prest was the most dangerous man I’d ever known. Not because he could kill me whenever he chose, but because he had the power to steal so much more than just my life. He could steal my heart.”
Pim is also fighting her demons, she doesn’t know what is wrong and what is right, she doesn’t know who she is anymore, she has a very hard time trusting again in this new life but she knows he is the only one who can give her back that lost trust, he is the only one capable to teach her and build her all over again.
“I hated that two women lived inside me. Two personalities, two hopes and dreams, and wishes.”
“You, my girl, are a warrior, and even warriors are allowed to be afraid.”
Dollars, focus more on the build-up of the relationship between Elder and Pim, they both can’t deny their attraction for each other, not even Pim who still so confused and hurt from her past.. but life is teaching her how to live and feel again.
“What would it be like to have such strong emotions? To hand over your entire heart, never fearing it would be rejected? I’d known what that was like once upon a time. It’d been such a long time ago, I’d forgotten. Shared affection was as mythical to me now as breathing beneath the waves like a fish.”
The story continues and we still have so many questions that are unclear about this amazing couple.. so ready to continue this great story with Hundreds!!
Amazing work by Pepper Winters!!
“I’ve been able to restrain myself up till now, but every second with you, it gets harder and harder.”
On Pennies, Pim was definetely broken…hopeless…anger…hatred…hurting…
Here we are, Pim being taken away … sailing around the Ocean… feeling hatred.. not trusting..
The dynamic between Pim and Elder are killing me…Pim can be a bitch if I may say… On on side of being taken away and getting involved with another man who is a total stranger…
Elder definetely struggling between his deepest secret…frustration… his feeling toward Pim.. his eager to made Pim speak… this series are a slow pace plot.. it takes a lot for me to read it.. its not for everyone to enjoy it but once you love it.. its a well written book…
If you thought you had anything figured out in Pennies, then you were wrong. The mysteries surrounding these two will only increase the more you know. I bet you dollars.
Elder and Pim finish Pennies on a rocky note. The start of Dollars isn’t much better but the ending…YIKES! What a way to make a statement!
The tumultuous “relationship” they are in is sometimes too much and other times not enough. Both haunted by demons, they can’t seem to escape the tether connecting them.
Opportunities present and the situation changes. But did it get better or worse? Will worth be determined and found lacking? And whose?
I can’t wait to dive into Hundreds because I’m greedy. And it’s already on my kindle!
reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
Pepper Winters does it again!!! The second book in her Dollar Seriess is a hauntingly beautiful story about Pim and Elder. It picks up where Pennies, book 1 in this series ended. The story line makes this so easy to read that I kept on reading, even instead of working! This book does in a cliffhanger, so be prepared to go out and buy Hundreds! Pepper Winters is an amazing author and my new favorite author!
I am fast becoming a huge fan of Pepper Winters and I am beginning to wish I had waited until the whole series was out before reading this because now I’m in book hell waiting for part 3! I loved book one and book two was even better.
Whilst book one we get a detailed insight into the life that Pimlico (Tasmin) has been forced to live, book two concentrates more on Elder Prest as he tries to fight his attraction to Pim, an attraction he cannot understand nor comprehend. Pepper has a way with words that has you hurtling into hers books heart and soul and this is no exception. It captures you and does not let up until every secret is told. Elder is a very complex character. Whilst he is portrayed to be dark, dangerous, mysterious; a man no better that Master A it is obvious that he is running from a destructive past. He wants to push Pim away but he can’t let her go. The pace of the book is unhurried and often frustrating as I am dying to know what has happened in Elders past.
Told from a dual POV, Peppers writing is very poetic, she has such a way with words that is descriptive, informative, emotive and leaves you wanting more. This is an intricately woven story of two characters who will end up saving each other. The chemistry between Pim and Elder is palpable. After everything Pim has endured at the hands of Master A has seen her developed into a strong character.
So many good quotes in the dialect between Pim and Elder that I have gone high light crazy. “What if I fall? By Oh my darling, what if you fly…” Elder is an enigma that I am looking forward to learning more about. I have devoured Pennies and Dollars in a matter of days. This series will consume me. If you like dark, deviant with secrets galore then you need to read the Dollar series. Addictive, encompassing and overall a fantastic read so far!
“You owe me, Pimlico. I told you I wasn’t the hero.”
Dollars is a great sequel and addition to this series. Even though it had somewhat of a slow pace, it was very intriguing and I couldn’t get enough. I loved how Elder and Pim got to know each other, it definitely wasn’t easy or without hurdles. Especially Pim took small steps in her recovery and was very suspicious of Elder’s motives, which no one can blame her after what she went through. Pim lost her voice and herself during the two years she was kidnapped, tortured and abused. It was very heartbreaking to see how she dealt with her memories and the aftermath of her captivity.
“I told you you are worth more than pennies, yet you cling to a dollar as if it’s the sum of your value.”
Elder is mysterious, and a very complicated ‘villain’. He is in war with himself and doubts some of the decisions he made. The same can be said for Pim, she doesn’t know what to believe and what will happen to her. How can she be optimistic after all she has been through? She lives in confusion and is very suspicious of every thing Elder does. However she did grow stronger in this book, more than she already was. Even though she was broken down, there was still fight in her. Further into the book you could see how a new Pim was being reborn.
Like I mentioned before, this book was a bit slow paced but I think it wouldn’t have impacted me as much if certain things were rushed. The ending was very heartbreaking and had me teary-eyed, every emotion was so raw and real. I have no idea what will happen in the next book, and what Elder will decide to do but I can’t wait to find out. I am intrigued by both Pim and Elder, and they are a very strong match. I just can’t wait to see how much both characters will grow throughout the series and how their relationship will develop as well.
~ 4.5 Stars ~
“She was one of the strongest women I’d come across, and she hadn’t spoken a word. That sort of strength…it did things to men like me. It made me want to break her and shelter her in equal measure. It set a war in motion between the devil and angel on my shoulders, and only time would tell what part of me would win.”
Ahh, Pepper Winters. My go to dark romance author. We’ve had some ups and downs over the years (one sided, of course.) She never fails to take me on a journey where I’m always questioning if I will be OK in the end. And I love it!
First of all, DO NOT READ Dollars if you have not read Pennies. Trust me. In order to understand both of the main characters, you will need to read that first.
Dollars picks up right at the end of Pennies. Where Pimlico (Pim) has been taken away from her former master that had sexually and verbally abused her for the past two years. Only now she has a new master. The one man who made her feel real, if only for a moment.
Elder is not the savior that Pim is expecting. He’s not a good man and not the one she deserves. Or so he thinks and what he wants Pim to believe. There’s something about Pim that calls to Elder. Sure, he wants her on a physical level but the need, the obsession of getting her mind is what really makes him tick. She’s been able to deny her previous master and now Elder the one thing they desire the most (although for different reasons.) Her voice. Elder wants her to finally break her vow of silence and talk to her. To tell him who she is. He wants to gain the ultimate sacrifice that someone in Pim’s state of mind could give. Trust. Will he earn it or will the strong Pim that we meet in book one stay strong and continue to hold on to that one piece of power?
This book has so much depth to it and I hope everyone catches on to that. It’s a story about healing. It’s a story about strength. It’s a story about empowerment. One of my favorite things about Pennies was the fact that we learn just how strong Pim is. Despite everything that happened to her, you could tell she was full of fight. She was intelligent and never fully broken. In this book, we get to see that come to life. We get to watch her finally realize who she is and fight back. Fight back to take control of herself. And you want to know what the most beautiful part of watching this is? Elder. He’s the one that is testing her and pushing her. They definitely have their ups and downs and their growth is painful for both of them. Yet, the connection they share somehow heals both of them in some way.
“Her strength, her bruises…everything about her screamed for it to end, yet she still clung to hope. That blind faith, tolerance for forgiveness, and stupid belief she could win latched onto the obsessions inside me and made me care.”
Their story is not over and we are left salivating and dying to get the next book in our hands so we can continue to shatter our hearts and experience along with them in order to piece it back together. That’s what Pepper Winter’s is so good at. She makes you feel. She makes you experience along with them. The emotions coil around your heart and soul and hold on tight, forcing you to endure their wrath. Well done! Is it time for Hundreds to be released yet???
Book 2 of the dollar series, Great series. Loving this series.
