A Christy Award winner from the best-selling author of War Room!In the small town of Dogwood, West Virginia, Karin has buried her shattered dreams by settling for a faithful husband whose emotional distance from her deep passions and conflicts leaves her isolated. Loaded with guilt, she tries to raise three small children and “do life” the best she can. Will returns to Dogwood intent on pursuing … Dogwood intent on pursuing the only woman he has ever loved—only to find there is far more standing in his way than lost years in prison. The secrets of Will and Karin’s past begin to emerge through Danny Boyd, a young boy who wishes he hadn’t survived the tragedy that knit those two together as well as tore them apart. The trigger that will lay their pain bare and force them to face it rather than flee is the unlikely figure of Ruthie Bowles, a withered, wiry old woman who leads Karin so deep into her anger against God that it forces unexpected consequences.

At first, I was confused. There are four characters who take turns narrating the tale, but thankfully their names are at the top of the chapters and that helps. After I got the gist of who each person was, the story really picked up for me–so be patient, it’s really worth it!
It’s an inspirational story of heartache and redemption. Of suffering and injustice, and final resolution. There’s a bit of suspense and action, and I was surprised by some of the plot twists at the end, although the writer did a really good job of foreshadowing most of those.
Recommended! If you like Charles Martin, you’ll like this author.
The characters were developed well as the story progressed. I love that it was written in the first person by many people in the story. Well done. And it had a sense of mystery that you began to unravel as the story moved along.
I could not put it down. You will feel what the characters felt, share disappointment and hope. The end came too quickly.
Interesting story line, the ending left me a bit confused. i plan on going back and listening to the last chapter to try and understand the ending better. It was different.
Intriguing story line with a totally unexpected twist at the end. Finished it a few days ago and am still enjoying mulling over that ending!
All I can say is oh my!!! What a great read!! The ending was so unexpected and nothing was predictable as in a lot of Christian books you read. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but he is definitely going into my favorites list. Most definitely one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.
I enjoyed it. The ending was quite a surprise.
A SURPRISE BUT SWEET ENDING TO STORY.
At first it was a bit difficult to connect the characters and what their situation actually was but the ending put everything into focus.
Could not put this book down once I had read 4 or 5 chapters. Never guessed the ending – that well writen!
It was enjoyable but no War Room by the same author. Ending totally unpredictable.
Confusing, then the end was soooo different.
Did not like the ending of the book. Felt like I had wasted all those hours reading it! Can’t get those back
I almost quit on the book. However, after reading reviews, I decided to plow on. The first major portion was boring & confusing to me but at the 3rd part, everything started coming together & became interesting though no less confusing. I need to re-read portions in order to figure out exactly what was happening. A very unusual read.
Had trouble keeping up with the plot from one chapter to the next.
I just fell in love with Chris Fabry’s writing. “Dogwood” is like no other book I have ever read! I am about to read it again to search for any clues I may have missed! I don’t want to give anything away, but I’m just saying….read this book! I am going to read every book I can locate that is written by this author.
