Review:
I am so glad that I read this book, I enjoyed it so much. The characters are great, the animals adorable and the mystery hard to solve. What more can you ask for?
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Kallie is a vet who happens to be able to talk with animals. What a great ability to have, especially in her line of work. I enjoyed meeting Kallie and her friends and the animals added so much. Sam, Grace and Kallie find themselves in plenty of hot water and made for some very funny moments.
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching all the action taking place. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and red herrings thrown in and it was not easy to solve.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I really hope this is the start of a series because I want to spend more time with Kallie and her friends and animals.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
A cozy, entertaining mystery. How can you not love a mystery with cute furry little 4 legged pets. Action and mystery await the reader in this well written story.

I enjoyed this book but it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Reading the blurb (Kallie uses an animal-communication technique)
I was expecting more a doctor Doolittle or reading the pets body language type of story instead the animals communicate by sending her visions. This isn’t anything supernatural it’s just something she can do after a training course and everybody accepts it. It may seem weird but it actually works and plays out nicely in the story. The mystery was interesting and the author is obviously a big mystery fan because a lot of famous characters (that I know well, being a fan myself) were mentioned and brought a smile to my face, especially when Kallie kept wondering what Kinsey Millhone would do. The characters are fun and like able, I really liked the two different personalities of the best friends. It’s a fun book and I will be looking out for book two.
Kallie as the vet on call gets sent out to help the police, when a dog is found guarding human bones. Using her special skills she gets the gone back and is able to lead the police to the rest of the body using this dogs help. By doing this she becomes the go to girl for a certain detective but it also puts her in the spot light of a killer. With threats being received, families disappearing, business that are not what they appear and a cat and dog to worry about Kallie has no option but to continue helping the police with there investigation, no matter how many times she is told to stay out of it or by doing so she put herself and her friends in danger. Well Kinsey wouldn’t back down.
I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job bringing the characters to life.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
interesting read
“Dogs Don’t Lie” by Lisa Shay is the 1st book in “A Kallie Collins Cozy Mystery” series. This is a new to me author, but I am glad I read the book as the series has a lot of potential.

I have always wished I knew what Lindi was thinking, (I think all furbaby mums wish they could) well the protagonist Kallie in this book has that ability.
I loved the setting of Medford, in southern Oregon with its forests it brought back memories of visiting Oregon as a child. I always like a small town setting where almost everyone knows one another. I enjoyed Kallie’s relationship with her best friends, Grace and Sam, and the chemistry between Ben and Kallie. (could there be romance in the future)
I found myself engrossed in the story and reading it in one sitting. It was entertaining, full of twists and turns as well as a few surprises. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.
I requested and received a copy of the book from the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The first book in the A Kallie Collins Cozy Mystery series. A well written story by an Author I have not read before, I want to read the next book. On call at Medford Emergency Animal Hospital, Doctor Kallie Collins gets a call about a dog with a bone, it will not give up. She meets policeman Dan at the ranch the call came from, pulling her into a murder investigation. A great start to this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A delightful and lighthearted mystery which I hope continues in to a series. Doctor Kallie Collins has the unique ability to listen to what animals tell her. She doesn’t talk to animals, but listens to their thoughts. When a man is missing, she is called to the scene to assist with a dog who has found a bone, a human bone, and refuses to give it up. Kallie hears the dogs’ thoughts, knows where the dog found the bone and is able to lead Detective Ben Jacobson to the grave site. Animals continue to give her information and although he doesn’t quite believe in Kallie’s ability, he soon learns that some things just can’t be explained. Kallie can’t quite stay out of the investigation and soon the case evolves into something more complicated. When the news media publishes her part in the story…have they put Kallie’s life in danger? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
This was a very entertaining mystery. I love the main character, Kallie, who is a vet that can talk to animals. She’s very straightforward about it, not all whoo-whoo. LOL! I love that she’s working with the police department even though they are skeptical at first. The animals are adorable too. Really good story!

I Want This Woman’s Life!
Have you ever daydreamed about being able to clearly communicate with an animal? Well, our heroine, the veterinarian can do just that! And the cozy mystery just gets better from there. I would love this gal’s life! I sure hope that this is the beginning of a series because I will read them all. I will certainly read anything this author writes, she has the gift. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprouts and this is my honest review.
I was pleasantly surprised with this first book I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought it was well written and very imaginative although at the end it was a little sketchy of everything coming together and why it was all done but then a lot of TV shows and movies do the same thing they don’t really answer any questions. The series shows great promise!
I really enjoyed this book. I like how Kallie involves both her best friends on finding answers. She also talks with Ben all the time too. That makes reading cozy mysteries more fun. Kallie is smart, funny and apparently good looking at least according to her best friends. I like the twist with the animals, it’s not something I have read before but could be believable. Kallie is someone I would like to read about. The clues all makes sense and are fun to watch Kallie and her friends figure them all out. I can’t wait for the next book.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is an awesome, entertaining, lighthearted book for someone looking to sit down and relax and have a good read. Lisa Shay has thrown it out of the ball park with this amazing book. Enjoy!
Thank you NetGalley for a free copy of this novel this review is my unbiased review.
First let me say I had not read any books by Lisa Shay before but I will in the future. I enjoyed the unique cozy. Lisa does a great job of laying out the characters and the story line. Dr Kallie Collins has the ability to communicate with animals. I have to say at first I was sceptical about this story but just like many of the characters in the book Kallie wins me over. By the end of this story I was wishing there was more. I look forward to reading more in this cozy mystery series.
What can a veterinarian do but get involved when she is called in to get a dog that won’t give up his prize and that prize happens to be a human bone. That is what happens to Doctor Kallie Collins when she is called in to get a bone back from said dog by the new detective in town As she communicates with the dog he not only gives her the bone but the entire body. Will something develop between her and Ben the detective on the case it doesn’t in this book but there sure is lots of chemistry between them
veterinarian, law-enforcement, family-dynamics, friendship, murder-investigation, cozy-mystery, situational-humor, verbal-humor
Veterinarian Kallie’s skills might be less obvious than Dr Doolittle, and she’s lots younger than Dr Herriot, but she has even more in common with Kinsey Milhone! She claims that her ability to interact with animals is a thing that can be learned, but the sheriff’s department and the paparazzi aren’t so sure. The detective is new to the area and their first encounter is over a dog who doesn’t want to give up the (human) bone but leads them into the cow pasture complete with cow pats. When Kellie isn’t sleuthing, she’s groaning over her mother’s matchmaking schemes, so it’s a good thing she’s got a couple of good friends! Absolutely loved this book!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Robynn Sheahan of Independent Book Publishers Association via NetGalley. Thank you!
*****Guess I only THOUGHT I loved it because when I won an audio copy I found out how much BETTER it was when performed by Naomi Rose-Mock! She really brought more life and personality to each of the characters!
I absolutely loved this storyline! A vet that can communicate with animals that has nothing to do with being psychic but everything to do with a communication class relating to animals. I want to take a class like that! The murder mystery was excellent and really kept my attention. I couldn’t put the book down until I reached the end. It was nothing I could have ever guessed! I can’t wait to read more of this series!

It was fun to meet an Oregonian veterinarian – though honestly, I am surprised she was not more popular at the edge of a small town. My decades old experience has regions with cattle and horse farms cooperating to offer vets with large animal experience all sorts of boons and bonuses to move to their area.
Kallie is a somewhat geeky gal, with a skill at understanding animal communications, and an on call schedule to rival an er doctor. Her mother is obviously mixing with the wrong folks when she asks Kallie to impromptu gatherings and introduces her as a “doctor “ not a dvm. Hilarious the response of the pompous young lawyer to her start of a story about pulling calves. Been there – burnt the t shirt. Some things just do not wash out.
Kallie and her friends are an amusing trio – sorry Kallie mom. I think Jeffrey of your desperate set up efforts is likely gay. Even nagging mom is funny, if exasperating.
An action packed read for fans of small town mystery, pets and a little special insight.

Doctor Kallie Collins has a special ability; she is able to communicate with animals through an animal-communication technique she learned years. This comes in pretty handy since she is a vet. When she communicates with a dog that has witnessed a murder, Kallie finds herself involved in a murder investigation. Can she convince the handsome detective on the case that she isn’t crazy and can help with the case?
Somehow the local news catches wind of Kallie’s ability and she finds herself front and center in all the attention. Does this mean the killer knows that she can help the police catch him? And is her life now in danger too?
This is a delightful new cozy mystery with a bit of romance tied in with whit, mystery, suspense, and some madcap adventure.
