The first book of the New York Times bestselling Chet and Bernie mystery series, an “enchanting one-of-a-kind novel” (Stephen King) that is “nothing short of masterful” (Los Angeles Times).Chet, the wise and lovable canine narrator of Dog on It, and Bernie, a down-on-his-luck private investigator, are quick to take a new case involving a frantic mother searching for her teenage daughter. This … searching for her teenage daughter. This well-behaved and gifted student may or may not have been kidnapped, but she has definitely gotten mixed up with some very unsavory characters. With Chet’s highly trained nose leading the way, their hunt for clues takes them into the desert to biker bars and other exotic locales—until the bad guys try to turn the tables and the resourceful duo lands in the paws of peril. Spencer Quinn’s irresistible mystery kicks off a delightful new series that will have readers panting for more.

Delightful Reading
No sex
Some harsh language
Action violence – not gorily detailed
Humorous without being stupid
The story is told through the eyes, nose, ears, and comprehension of Chet, a large dog who is the companion of Detective Bernie Little. At times Chet gets distracted by things like the smell of pepperoni or the bark of another dog. …
I recommend the entire series starting with Dog On It. The series is about Bernie who owns a detective agency and Bernie is his dog and side kick. Each book they are solving a situation but become embroiled in a mess. They are an easy read and quite entertaining. If you have an evening and want a light read this is the series for you. You can …
I am a sucker for stories with dogs and the cover caught my interest and my instinct was correct. Chet is the wise and lovable canine narrator who works with Bernie, a down on his luck private investigator. The story starts with a woman who is divorced to find her 15 year old daughter, Madison who may have been kidnapped. Bernie and Chet get …
Sense of place is probably less important in this delightful series than the two main characters, a dog named Chet and his owner, Bernie Little. Here’s the deal: Chet tells us the story, a mystery experienced through a dog’s senses and understandings. It’s a refreshing take on the genre, and the details of place are those that a dog would find …
A fun, fun read.
A dog and a Private Investigator work a case…
And it IS as funny as it sounds because the dog is telling the story! It is also a very
enjoyable mystery for humans who like investigators and bad guys. Lots to love
about Chet and Bernie!
This is book #1 of the Chef and Bernie series. I love these stories. The narration by Chet never fails to amuse me. Dog lovers delight.
Enjoyed the characters and the plot, a fun read.
cute
Story told using a humorous dog’s first person POV. Provided a brief light refreshing break from the pandemic.
You never know what Chet and Bernie will get into next.
This story could only be written by a dog lover, for the enjoyment of other pack members. Or those who want to be pack members.
A great story made magnificent by being told by Chet.
Loved it! Can’t get enough of Chet!
A mystery from a dog’s point of view–original, charming, funny, and extremely enjoyable. I am intent on working my way through the entire series.
Great for dog lovers!
Told from Chet the dog’s point of view, with the joys of treats and car rides, the short attention span, and the complete devotion to his human, Bernie the detective, with whom he partners to solve crimes. If you’ve ever loved a good dog, you will love joining Chet the Jet on his adventures.
I enjoyed the mystery written from the viewpoint of the dog! Very creative and entertaining! Looking forward to reading another installment.
As an owner of 4 dogs, I don’t mind the concept of a dog narrating a story, but Chet’s use of words was often un-doglike.
i really liked this book. i keep looking for the next in the series, but never found it.
Love having Chet the dog tell the story!
