Dodgers is a dark, unforgettable coming-of-age journey that recalls the very best of Richard Price, Denis Johnson, and J.D. Salinger. It is the story of a young LA gang member named East, who is sent by his uncle along with some other teenage boys—including East’s hothead younger brother—to kill a key witness hiding out in Wisconsin. The journey takes East out of a city he’s never left and into … city he’s never left and into an America that is entirely alien to him, ultimately forcing him to grapple with his place in the world and decide what kind of man he wants to become.
Written in stark and unforgettable prose and featuring an array of surprising and memorable characters rendered with empathy and wit, Dodgers heralds the arrival of a major new voice in American fiction.

Easily one of the finest debut novels I’ve ever read. Engaging road story of four teenage gang members who embark on a trip from LA to Wisconsin to murder a judge. The writing is absolutely dazzling and the characters are not what you expect — they have depth and their own brand of integrity and pride. It’s an inside journey to a world most of us know nothing about. Can’t recommend it enough. Have already sent copies to several friends.
This books starts off slowly, but soon catches the reader, wondering what will happen to this group of inner-city boys. The books requires the reader to look at “some crimes” from a very different perspective. Once it gets going – it hard to put down
What a good read—very pleased and surprised.
EXCELLENT read!! I was a bit surprised at how much I liked this- not my usual genre…
The characters were very true-to-life and their situations were tragic and compelling.
Great read
Thought the long drive would be boring but the writing was so good the time passed quickly
Surprises throughout the book
Loved the storyline, characters and flow
Remarkable
excellent writing
I loved it. One of the few books I’ve read recently that I couldn’t put down!!
I enjoyed the rediculous behavior of the boys on the road trip, even though they were violent.
