The nurses call me Dr. Heartbreaker. They say I put the hot in hot-shot cardiologist. Not that it matters. I never stick my tongue depressor in my co-workers. What can I say? I play by a set of personal rules. Even if those rules eliminate 99.9% of the woman I come in contact with from my dating-pool. Even if those rules landed me on a blind date with Emily, my childhood sweetheart, a … Emily, my childhood sweetheart, a woman I hadn’t seen since I broke her heart freshmen year of college.
Let’s just say the evening was a disaster. She took one look at me, and it was…
Date over. Do not pass go. Do not collect your two-hundred dollars.
The thing is, I can’t stop thinking about her. She was my first kiss, and every other first that two people could share.
She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved.
How can I make her understand what really happened between us when she wants nothing to do with me?
How can I let her walk away again, when it could mean another ten years wondering…what if?
The answer’s simple. I can’t.
Unfortunately, the solution to my dilemma is a five-year-old Colombian girl with a deadly heart condition. The same little girl Emily’s non-profit organization brought to the United States to receive life-saving surgery.
When the chief of staff informs me, I need to improve my public image because my bedside manner sucks–not THAT bedside manner. I’m just fine between the sheets, thank you very much—I agree to perform the girl’s operation…
Because spending more time with Emily is worth the risk.
Even if it means I have to break every rule in my playbook.
Even if it means destroying myself in the process.
I’ll do anything for a second chance with the woman who’s owned my heart since the first-grade.

Even if those rules land me on a blind date with Emily, my childhood sweetheart, a woman I hadn’t seen since I broke her heart freshmen year of college. I enjoyed this second chance romance, the story line was interesting, the characters were likable the only thing that bugged me was at the beginning Emily had spent 10 years avoiding him and within a couple of days she was living with him and in love seemed a little fast after living without him for 10 years. All over this was a sweet read.
I started out thinking “wow, I really hate this guy” and he doesn’t deserve her. Took a while, but he redeemed himself and voila…..a really sweet fun HEA. Great narration of the audiobook as well.
Doctor Heartbreaker ispart of the Cocky Hero Club which is inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s British Bedmate. You don’t have to have read British Bedmate to enjoy this one but if you have recognize Simon and Bridget when they pop up in the story.
Emily is a good person. She has a lot on her plate. She’s a single mom who works for a non-profit that help sick kids in remote areas get treatment. She definitely has a big heart. She has a current girl, Paola, in the US a waiting surgery. She doesn’t have time to date but her friends set her up on a blind date. He blind date isn’t a stranger though, it’s Rhett her ex. Rhett is a hot shot doctor. He’s sexy but close off. He’s not going let a second chance with Emily slip away. Both has issues from the past to work through. They were cute together and I was rooting for them. The ending I thought was a little rushed but it’s still a great read!
4 1/2 Stars!
I really enjoyed this book.
This 2nd chance book was so pure that you could still feel the love between these two.
I loved the character of Rhett. He is a cocky surgeon who is really good at his job. He is also a man who knows his limitations. Working with children was something he never wanted to do again. I loved that so many times, it was shown how real and human he was. That he can be so sure on the job but yet also have insecurities.
Emily was a fun character to read about. I loved that she stook strong by Rhett all through him dealing with his ex.
Both Rhett and Emily’s moms were a hoot.
This was my first book by Kathryn Hearst and I thought it was well done. There’s already a long history between Rhett and Emma that came to a screeching halt years earlier when Rhett broke Emma’s heart; they’re reunited after being set up on a blind date. This is a second chance at love story, but surprisingly there’s quite an emotional tone to the story that I wasn’t expecting, but I liked the element it added to the overall story.
First book by Kathryn M. Hearst and it was a sweet story. The story definitely took you on an emotional ride with a child with a heart condition that has low percentage rates of surviving a surgery, and then Rhett and Emily’s past break-up that still haunts them to this day. But you will also get a lot of laugh out loud moments, romance and steam. Overall, I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
This is one that wasn’t really for me. I’m not going to give it a bad review because of that. I didn’t try a couple time to get into it but I just couldn’t. I don’t really know why, I can’t put my finger on it.
4 stars
Great read from a new-to-me author in the Cocky Hero Club. Doctor Heartbreaker was a wonderfully crafted second chance romance between childhood best friends.
Emily and Rhett grew up next door to each other and fell in love in the sweetness of youth. As they grew older, life and drama split them apart but you never forget your first love. Years have past but they’re thrust together again when Rhett is chosen to perform a potentially life saving surgery on a young child in Emily’s care. While in close proximity, they get to know each other again and remember all they loved about each other.
Fascinating story about a young child’s medical condition, two friends who are so much more than friends and all the things trying to keep them apart. Great read. This was my first book by this author but it won’t be my last.. I have already purchased the book found in the preview in the back of the book!

Dr. Heartbreaker wants a second chance with Emily the girl who heart he broke in college. Emily wants nothing to do with him, until circumstance force them together. A HEA with plenty of feels. A great read.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away but honestly I don’t know anyone that wouldn’t want to climb Rhett like a tree. Rhett and Emily were childhood best friends that became more only to be torn apart. 10 years later they run into each other again and the sparks are still there. I love second chance romances and thoroughly enjoyed Doctor Heartbreaker.
This was a cute second chance romance. Rhett and Emily embark on a journey of forgiveness, strength, and growth. This is a new to me author, I was not disappointed. I liked this story.
This sort of broke my heart even knowing he was going to be a heart breaker. Rhett and Emily deserved their second chance but it came with past hurts and some things I didn’t see coming. The story kept me riveted. It’s sweet, sexy, and intriguing.
This is my first read by Kathryn M. Hearst and I’m speechless. This story gripped me from the first chapter and held me until the very sweet epilogue. I went thru a whole range emotions following the journey of Rhett and Emily’s second chance at their happily ever after. I loved how smoothly this flowed and seeing Bridget and Simon (British Bedmate) again. Rhett and Emily were both complex characters – then throw in a sick kiddo (Paola) and Zoe (Emily’s daughter), along with Rhett and Emily’s moms – this story is one of the best I have read (so far) the Cocky Hero series. There wasn’t one thing I disliked at all….well, except for Rhett’s crazy (I’m talking in need of restraining order level crazy) ex – but she was handled. The strength that both Rhett and Emily has, considering they both have heartbreaking pasts, made my heart grow and reading how they came back together was everything I could hope. I will be reading more of Kathryn’s works after this and I’m happy to have this in my Kindle so I can read it again.
4.5 Stars for Doctor Heartbreaker (A Cocky Hero Club Novel)
This is Rhett and Emily’s story and that means catching up with Bridget and Simon from British Bedmate. Kathryn M Hearst is a new author to me but after reading Doctor Heartbreaker that’s going to change because I’m really left wondering why she hasn’t crossed my radar before now…
Rhett and Emily have a history, they grew up together, their mums were best friends and they enjoyed many firsts as boyfriend and girlfriend but the timing wasn’t right and when Rhett made a big mistake they went their seperate ways, fate works in mysterious ways and now 10 years later they find themselves thrown together helping a sick child with life saving surgery, will the timing be right this time around or will the pain from the past be just to much to overcome…..
I loved the characters in this book and I loved the feels I got from this great read. It’s a story that captivated me from the first page to the last line and it’s a book I highly recommend to all romance lovers. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Emily is a social worker of sorts. She works with kids that need special medical attention. She has a child right now that is in the United States that is needing to be operated on. She was set up on a blind date by her friends little does she know that the guy is same guy that was her first love and has known since the 4th grade. Emily has to leave the date before Rhett can realize who she is.
Emily is also dealing with missing her daughter who stays with her mother when she is away for work. But then something happens to the patient and Rhett gets thrown into the mix even more. Emily and the little girl she is trying to help end up staying with Rhett. He believes that it is better for the patient. That is when things start to change between him and Emily. But will Rhett be able to get past what happened to his own little girl to give Emily a chance and save her patient? A heartwarming well written enjoyable storyline from beginning to end. I loved Emily and Rhett. These two both have quite the past that they need to overcome. Another great addition to this series.
Doctor Heartbreaker takes us into the Cocky Hero World of British Bedmate with an emotional and heartwarming second chance romance. The journey that Rhett and Emily took was confronting the past, grabbing hold of the present and hoping for a future. This was a passionate story that at times had my heart in my throat. It was sexy, flirty and enchanting. Two characters and a story that will steal your heart.
I have heard the rumors, and I have let them think what they want but when a friend of mine and his wife fixes me up with a blind date, I thought I was going to want to get out of there quick until its…
A blast from my past of all things.
Emily is going to blow his mind when she needs his help with a young one who has serious heart trouble. And she knows he doesn’t believe in what needs to be done but he is the best.
The thing is can she keep her heart safe from Rhett or will his past take care of saving her?
I enjoyed this story, it’s a second chance but with a twist.
Rhett and Emily second chance friends to lovers story, heartbreak, avoidance, and betrayal drove them apart, they now meet under stressful circumstances and they have a second chance. You will laugh but also will have you reading through the entire book in no time. Definitely a good story to read.
Loved this second chance romance. It was filled with emotion and angst, plus some delicious heat.
