NatalieDr. Easton is part man, part myth. He’s a formidable surgeon. Highly respected in his field.He also happens to be an ex-collegiate quarterback with a classically handsome face.Are you catching on yet?He’s horrible.Beautiful.A walking Ralph Lauren ad.He’s also so off limits he should come with a warning label: This way lies heartache.Not only is he an attending at the hospital where I’m … heartache.
Not only is he an attending at the hospital where I’m training, he’s also my brother’s best friend. If you’ve lost count, that’s two reasons why I plan on putting this ridiculous crush behind me. Besides, it’s definitely not mutual.
Dr. Easton has never once paid me special attention. No tempting smirks. Not even one subtle innuendo. To him, I’m just another resident—all but invisible.
Connor
For the last five years, I’ve mentored Natalie in the OR, stayed in line, and kept my hands to myself, but it’s been agonizing.
Natalie is trouble in scrubs. A walking temptation I’ve been forced to ignore.
For so long, I’ve wanted her in silence. By the time fate finally throws me a bone, my patience has run out.
Natalie’s brother is leaving town, and he wants me to watch over her while he’s gone.
He has no idea how I feel about her.
Neither does she.
But she will.
Haven’t you heard good things come to those who wait, Natalie?
Well…I’ve done my waiting.

A simple story of brothers best friend… they both want each other but since she’s been a resident and he and attending, they weren’t letting one another know their feelings for each other. When she finally graduates and becomes a fellow, Connor is full tilt ready to make Natalie his. But Natalie has doubts… when is the other shoe going to drop? While she’s confident in her profession, she’s not so confident in her relationship. Connor ensures to prove to her how he’s not going anywhere.
This is a dual point of view but mainly from Natalie’s side of things. It was a good story, just not one that blows me away.
Natalie and Connor have had a crush on each other for years. They never did anything about it because Connor’s best friend is Natalie’s brother, also, she was a resident studying under him in the BICU. Both Natalie and Connor are burn surgeons. I loved all of the time they spent at the hospital with their patients. Many times we see doctors in books, but there were actually detailed descriptions of surgeries that took place and I appreciated this. It made this seem completely real and it made me feel like I was right there with them.
These two stumbled their way through a relationship for sure. They both knew they wanted each other, but getting the right words out was a huge struggle. There were so many times I wanted to shake both of them because they wouldn’t just communicate how they felt! We knew how much they loved each other because of their inner monologue, but they couldn’t voice it out loud! In the end, it came together beautifully and these two were just adorable. I can always trust Rachel to make me smile so big my face hurts when I read her books.
Good book! I loved The Beach novella about Lindsey & Noah. I wish it would’ve been longer because their chemistry is so apparent but glad they still got a happily ever after.
Oh boy. This was a hard one to figure out. I read it in two days, and every time I had to put it down I would think and think about it. The story itself isn’t complicated. It’s a straight up romance. There wasn’t very much going on besides observing the evolving relationship between these two doctors. The difficulty was, it was so hard to figure out these characters’ motivations.
Both of these surgeons liked keeping control and it had bled over into their personal lives. Natalie was skittish about a possible relationship, and Connor was pushy, and it resulted in recurrent power plays. They would get angry and fight, I mean really fight! Both of them would rationalize these situations to themselves and to each other, but oftentimes they weren’t conscious of or admitting that what they really were feeling was something all together different. So in this dual POV story, there are multiple things to decode for each character—their actions, their thoughts, their repressed feelings and their interactions with each other.
Natalie is the character who grew most over the course of the story. Her mom had always told her ‘don’t give up your power’. Her career as a female physician forced her to struggle for power and respect. She feared losing her power that she fought so hard for, and she knows a relationship is in conflict with that. It would require vulnerability. It takes her most of the book to overcome these fears, but when she does the resolution is pretty sweet. Yes, by the end of the book it becomes clear where these characters were coming from, but it did keep me busy trying to figure it out for an awfully long time. It was almost like a mystery story.
This book was not what I expected from R. S. Grey. I read two of her other books and they both had what I would consider to be secondary themes—one was emotional abuse (Arrogant Devil) and one was female empowerment (Coldhearted Boss). I really liked both of them. This book wasn’t as deep as those two were but it still was a compelling story, although being that there wasn’t much action it did get a little slow at times. The ending was very nice, and the epilogue was funny. Totally unbelievable but it still made me laugh. (Was she punch-drunk or what?)
R. S. Grey is a really good writer, so while this isn’t my favorite Grey book it is certainly worth the read and the challenge of deconstructing these characters. My take away was that no matter how much you are feeling your power, when it comes to your personal life we’re all the same, just trying to figure it out as we go along.
Natalie a burn surgeon has finished her residency. She is now in the fellow program. She has worked
at the hospital with Connor Easton for 5 years and thinks she is off his radar. He has been on hers
for as long as she has known Connor who happens to be her brother’s best friend.
Connor the top plastic surgeon has watched Natalie for 5 years working with her everyday in the
teaching hospital and being her supervisor could not show any interest or favor to her. But
little does Natalie know that Connor has longed for her and is crazy about her. The
story takes you on the journey of how Connor and Natalie finally have their HEA and what
leads them there. I really enjoyed the way R. S. Grey writes both POV. R.S. Grey writes the stories that draw you in and make your turn the pages until you reach the end.
I recommend her books.
Can we please take a moment and appreciate rs grey for all these doctors romance she give us?! thank you
It took a while to get into the rhythm of the book because I found it a little slow at first but nothing that truly affected my interest in the book besides when things start to unfold I couldn’t put the book down, Doctor Dearest has one of my favorites tropes and it was so well written and i liked how things were not prolonged just so could be a plot.
Natalie is an incredible person, she’s just so smart and dedicated, she has always focused on her work and her professional achievements which contributed to making her feel insecure about everything that had to do with Connor, and because of that I loved to see her development in relation to her feelings.
Connor is an amazing character, he’s determined and straightforward, I loved how he owned his feelings and knew exactly what he want it, when I think of a surgeon I imagine someone cold and if there’s something that connor isn’t it’s cold and indifferent, he’s just the CUTEST, in some moments i caught myself smiling and it was always about something he did/said, am i in love?
And, of course, Noah and Lindsey are perfect side characters, I liked them so much and wouldn’t mind reading more about them.
This was my first RS Grey book! It won’t be my last! I really enjoyed this book! I couldn’t put it down! The storyline moved quickly and drew me in from the very beginning. I would highly recommend this book!
4.5 Stars
Dr. Natalie Martin has harbored a major crush on her attending physician… and her brother’s best friend, for too many years to count. Dr. Connor Easton isn’t just unattainable, but more of a dangerous force she needs to stay far, far away from… if she wants to continue to function as a normal human being…
But when Natalie’s brother/roommate invites the rock star of surgeons to stay at their place for the foreseeable future, Natalie’s ability to avoid his captivating attention is about to burn up in the inescapable flames of their red-hot attraction…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Doctor Dearest is romantic comedy at its absolute finest! With its delightful balance from the hilarious and fresh characters paired with a gigantic dose of all-out-heart, all other authors can only strive to achieve the kind of magic that R.S. Grey delivers in everything she writes. Natalie and Connor are two surgeons who live for their occupations, but when the time is finally right for their attraction to be addressed… everything is about to go absolutely wrong..
Natalie was a little awkward, but in the most lovable way. As a highly successful burn surgeon, her acumen in her profession does nothing for her disaster of a personal life. And after years of assuming that Connor barely realizes she exists, she is in for the shock of her life when he suddenly is all about showing her just what he really thinks about his best friend’s little sister…
Connor is not only a renowned plastic surgeon, but also an unfairly charismatic and completely gorgeous one as well. And while he has been patiently waiting for an appropriate time to share the feelings that he has for Natalie, now that his time has finally come, he finds that his hard fought for patience is in serious danger of completely snapping…
The setting of the Burn ICU was an absolutely fascinating addition to this story and came across as superbly researched (as always!) and extremely well done. Natalie and Connor’s highly regarded positions as burn surgeons added some much to the story and to their personalities by showing their complete devotion to their profession and the difference they make in their patients lives.
I adored everything about this smart, incredibly funny and seriously sexy read! Natalie and Connor have a complicated yet, worth-every-second of their dating turmoil romance for the ages! I had so much fun reading this book, from the banter and love/hate energy to their love that (eventually) wins in the end, Natalie and Connor absolutely earned their HEA, and I enjoyed every single moment it took for them to achieve it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
4 Stars, no surprise in that!!
Doctor Dearest was such a cute and funny story. I always run to an RS Grey book because I know I’m instantly going to be put in a happier, lighter mood and this book was no different.
Natalie is a med resident who just stated her fellowship. She’s smart, calculated and one of the best in her class. There’s only one thing that can trip her up and that’s Connor, a hot plastic surgeon who also happens to be her longtime crush/ brothers best friend.
That’s right guys we’re getting all the goodies with this book, brothers best friend AND a coworker romance!?
Connor is amazing at his work and his looks *wink wink*. He’s always had a thing for Natalie but as a teacher during her residency she was hands off. Now she’s on equal playing field and Natalies brother is leaving town. That means GAME ON
This book was so funny and sweet. I loved the few surprises in it. Connor and Natalies relationship was an interesting one since they’re both control freaks. I loved their banter especially since Natalie loved to have the last word. She was a spit fire. Another funtastic read by the Queen!
My rating: 4 / 5 stars
Doctor Dearest is more proof that R.S. Grey can do no wrong in my eyes. (Not that I needed it, you understand.) Rachel is one of my rom-com go-to’s. She never lets me down.
Reading Doctor Dearest was basically like watching Grey’s Anatomy. But, you know, without all the heartbreak and drama for the sake of drama. (I say this as a former die-hard Grey’s fan.) Natalie and Connor’s brother’s best friend romance ticked all my boxes. They were so fun and swoony. I loved that there wasn’t a lot of time wasted with the two of them. It seemed like there was a smidge of unrequited love early on, but it didn’t take long to move past that. These two had oodles of chemistry and I couldn’t get enough of them.
Both Natalie and Conner were fantastic characters. I appreciated her strength and “I don’t need a man” attitude. Except, you know, she clearly *wanted* Connor. And really, who can blame her? He was hot, smart and driven. And her brother’s best friend. It’s like catnip for me. There are definitely some challenges thrown their way, but I loved how they navigated everything. If you’re looking for a rom-com to make you giggle and give you some feels, look no further. This is the one you need in your life.
Favorite Quotes:
“This isn’t punishment, Natalie. This is foreplay.”
I finished R.S. Grey’s “Doctor Dearest” in the wee hours of the morning with a huge smile on my face. I loved this book so much! The main characters, Natalie and Connor, were well-developed and endearing, and I found it very easy to root for them both individually and as a couple. Their relationship development was nicely paced, and I enjoyed their witty banter throughout the book.
Natalie was a wonderful lead character: incredibly smart, fiercely independent, and dedicated to her work. In a professional capacity, she knew exactly what she wanted and how to achieve it, but she was not nearly as confident when it came to her personal life. However, I appreciated that Natalie recognized her relationship hang-ups and worked so hard to overcome them. Connor was certainly worth the effort! He was a totally swoon-worthy male lead, and I couldn’t help thinking of him as “McDreamy 2.0” the whole time I was reading this book.
The book’s secondary characters were a lot of fun too, especially Natalie’s brother Noah and best friend Lindsey. I would love to read a future story about the two of them – there definitely seemed to be some chemistry there!
I always love it when a new RS Grey book is released because I know I’m going to enjoy because of her writing. She has characters that have an authenticity and purity to them that you think you either know them, or are apart of their group. The challenges they face are real and not just insignificant drama, these are dilemmas that some couples could and do face in the real world.
This is a brothers best friend trope but I wouldn’t say a friends to lovers romance, because both have been standoffish over the years as each as had a crush on the other. Natalie never knew that she would even have had a chance with Connor, as she felt he was out of her league. Connor on the other hand felt it was best to wait until Natalie had finished with her studies before he made any moves. And if you think it’s smooth sailing from here, well you’d be wrong, it’s only the beginning.
Natalie is confident in her job, she has to be but matters of romance are beyond her. She’s shy and classical funny with her thoughts on what she should do with Connor’s advances. He is patient most of the time, he’s frustration is due to wanting the best outcome for them both. I loved their story and especially the epilogue. I’m also keen to know if her brother Noah might have a book coming, and hopefully with a certain OB GYN Dr?!!
4 stars!
A brother’s best friend romance where the heroine’s crush is moving in to keep an eye on her while her brother is away?! Yes, please! Add in the fact that unbeknownst to her, the hero wants her just as badly and we get the perfect set up for some smokin’ hot sexy times. Mix the heat with humor and heart and you get Doctor Dearest, another entertaining romantic comedy by RS Grey.
I love the brother’s best friend trope and this one is so satisfying. Natalie and Cooper have known each other for ages and both are doctors at the same hospital. Natalie has crushed on Cooper since she met him but he’s always been off limits because not only is Cooper her brother’s best friend, she’s also worked under him during her residency program. They have never crossed the line but they are about to get a whole lot closer when Cooper moves into the house she shares with her brother.
I loved the set-up of this story and adored the characters, especially Cooper. I think he stole the show. He is such an amazing guy with huge heart. I was eating up every scene he was in and swooning the whole time! I really liked Natalie too. She is sweet, smart, and has strong work ethic that is admirable, but it’s her character growth that made me like her even more.
Natalie and Cooper are hilarious when they are together. Their banter is fantastic and their friendship is fun. On the outside it’s all teasing but on the inside, emotions are brewing. There is no questioning the feelings they have towards each other; however, they’ve kept them bottled up so long that when they are finally out in the open, Cooper and Natalie find it hard to navigate the new road between friends and lovers.
Despite the fact that they desperately want each other, there is a lot of push and pull. The sexual tension skyrockets with all the back and forth and they just about combust when they finally accept what they want.
Then, roadblock after roadblock threatens to end the love that is just blooming. Throw in a few unexpected twists and everything is up in the air.
“I’ve waited for what feels like an eternity to finally fess up to the feelings I have for her, and now it’s turned into a royal mess.”
The story is surprising but believable, and I enjoyed the way Natalie and Cooper come together. Happy, swoony, sexy moments fill the pages once everyone is on the same page and I was giddy with the love between Natalie and Cooper. And though I was a bit frustrated with the amount of back and forth between the two of them in the beginning, there was never any question of their feelings which made me believe it. There is just enough drama to keep you glued to the pages and a whole lot of fun and love to enjoy until the very end.
Overall, I really enjoyed Doctor Dearest and I thought the brother’s best friend trope was well executed. I have to add that I hope Noah and Lindsey get a book so that they can pursue the connection they have, and I would love to get more of Natalie and Cooper too!
What a fun book! Another fine example of this author’s joie de vivre writing style. It’s mostly funny but it has its heartfelt moments, with a itty bit of angst. In other books, I usually love the male character the most, but in R.S. Grey’s book, the female character is the hoot. Funny, clumsy, always present, always kind, and in times of crisis, slightly wacko. It’s like reading your best friend in print.
This is the story of two dedicated doctors; Dr. Natalie Martin is a new fellow in pediatric burn surgery, and Dr. Connor Easton is an attending in plastic surgery. Since burn surgery is connected with plastic surgery, Natalie has studied under Connor’s direction and assisted in some of his surgeries. Furthermore, Connor is her brother Noah’s best friend.
The crazy part of this story is that Natalie has had a crush on Connor for years and kept it quiet (little sister syndrome). Likewise, Connor has had feelings for Natalie and kept quiet for professional reasons (student and attending). Now that Nat is a full-fledged doctor, the coast is clear and Connor is on the prowl! He has his work cut out for him because Nat is fiercely independent and self-reliant, product of her upbringing and her mother’s lessons. Natalia leads Connor on a merry dance, but Natalie is an intelligent woman and she knows that Connor is one of the few good ones. She has a conundrum: should she settle for being a doctor, married to the hospital, or try to have it all, her work and her man and possibly, kids?
This is a fun story, with a surprise you have to read to find out. It’s delightful and heartwarming, with secondary characters as lovely as the principals, totally entertaining and adorable. Now I want Noah’s and Sydney’s story!
NO SPOILERS!
Doctor Dearest has been the BEST and my FAVORITE romantic comedy from R.S. Grey to date, and I absolutely loved Connor and Natalie’s story! The storyline, characters, and author’s writing style and sense of humor were fantastic. I loved everything from beginning to end and was beyond happy with the conclusion. Sweet, sexy, funny, authentic, and entertaining, Doctor Dearest is a MUST READ romcom, and I can’t wait to read more standalone romances from R.S. Grey!
This book was absolutely wonderful. I honestly don’t know how R.S. Grey has the ability to improve so much after each book and make me fall in love with every one of her characters as easily as I did with my first book of hers. I loved how easily R.S. Grey was able to make so many tropes fit perfectly into Connor and Natalie’s story. This book also did a wonderful job at making the background characters seem just as important as the main ones. I absolutely cannot wait for the her next book and while I’m wondering how it’ll top this one, I know for sure it will. If you want an amazing book, read this one it won’t let you down!
Natalie and Connor are both doctors in the same field and have both been secretly crushing on each other for some time but neither have acted on it. Connor just so happens to be Natalie’s BrotherBest Friend and needs a place to stay while his place is under renovations and Natalie’s brother offers up his place while he is away. Now might be the time for these two to see if there is something real behind their attraction and draw to each other
This story was cute, heart warming, witty, a little sassy and a little frustrating at times but I enjoyed it thoroughly. The character growth in this story was amazing and watching these two come together and let go of some of the things that have always been holding back felt so natural and genuine and that ending was just perfect
If you like medical romances, this is a good read. Natalie is a surgeon specializing in burns. She’s been harboring a secret crush on Connor, her brother’s best friend. Connor is also a surgeon at the hospital where Natalie works. He specializes in plastic surgery and also work on a lot of cases in the burn unit.
When Natalie graduates from the residency program, there’s no reason why she and Connor can’t act on their feelings. He’s no longer one of her instructors. There’s a lot of push and pull in this book. Do they have time to date with their busy careers? What will Natalie’s brother think? What will their co-workers think?
A cute fun read. R.S. Grey writes another great read. Her characters are well written and full of depth.
Connor is Natalie’s brother’s best friend. Now that he is no longer her mentor, in the hospital where they both work, he can make his move. Their romance is slow but Connor doesn’t give up!
Throughout the story, Natalie throws up walls and pushes Connor away. But I am glad the author didn’t fall back on what other authors do and make them not communicate and hold things back from each other. Natalie tells Connor what she feels and Connor does the same. They work through their issues like adults. That is what I like about this book.
Another great story by R.S. Grey.
