What happens when a dare goes too far?Maddox Coulter. Reckless bad boy. Infamous playboy. My nemesis. And now my best friend.I know he’ll never leave me hanging. He knows I’ll never refuse a dare. Everywhere we go we turn heads, but it’s not like that.Until it is.For one of us, anyway.I’ve always known he would be my downfall. But I trusted him to catch me.He proved me wrong.Maddox has gone too … me.
He proved me wrong.
Maddox has gone too far, and I don’t know if I want to rein him in or push us further into dangerous territory.
He tells me those three little words that I crave. Three little words I want from no one else.
“I dare you.”
Except this time, it’s no simple dare. This could burn us to the ground.

Maddox and Lila are in high school and this story is about their past. They start out as enemies. Their antics towards each other were hilarious. The time moves to went they end up friends. The slow burn of sexual tension was frustrating. They end up dating other people for a time. I wasn’t as bothered by this since neither was jealous or hurt by it. Finally in the end they have a sexual relationship. I am looking forward to the next book to find out what happens with this couple.
This is the best of the best enemies to friends/lovers story I have ever read so far!
If you like new adult’s genre and heroes who mess with each other to the highest point of limits than this story is exactly what you need.
I am newbie to Lylah James author books but she quickly won me over with this amazing story. As soon as I started to read this book, she drove me straight into the very emotional and intense plot and I sunk into it.
Lila and Maddox accidentally crushed into each others and this situation was as funny as dramatic all at the same time.
And can you imagine? muscular, tall and lean rock hard wall with tanned skin and strong arms. Who doesn’t want to bump into man like this?
Maddox Coulter. Reckless bad boy, infamous Playboy. Berkshire Academy’s Star Quarterback. Besides his hot look he was Class-A jerk and the last person Lila wanted to bump on.
Lila was very smart, intelligent beautiful girl. She has plans for her future and high ambitions. She was also previously burned in relationship so boys like Maddox had to try really hard to win her heart.
I loved her assertive attitude and the way she was handling Maddox.
I was grinning like crazy during the reading when they’re verbally sparring with each other. I love that kind of bantering and growing sexual tension between main characters.
They were nemesis to each other but you know what they say, all is fair in love and war.
I can tell that there was also a little bit of bully romance in the story but was written in witty manner.
They’re both liked to challenge each other, pulled and pushed one another to the point that not everyone could handle but here they met their match and neither would back down.
They’ve put my emotions on the highest level of excitment and I was eagerly waiting for their next move.
I loved every interaction they had, there wasn’t even one tiny moment I’d be bored with their story and I totally fell in love with both heroes.
I wont tell you all of it because it’s only the top of the iceberg in my review. What you will find in Do You Dare’ is more profound with heartbreaking and breathtaking moments.
Author excellently played with my emotions and knew how to tease me with this story that I felt like on the rollercoaster afterwards.
There might be a long way for their HEA because end of part one in this duet left me with broken heart and huge cliffhanger that I’m dying to read conclusion ASAP.
I love Lylah’s originality in all her works and Do You Dare is no exception. This bully romance is riveting and Maddox is one of the sexiest heroes I’ve read in a long, long time.
This book is not what I expected. The Blurb and the Cover had me totally thinking about something other than NA, Bully-Romance, Best Friends to Lovers!!!
What did I just experience. WOW! Lylah took Slow Burn to a totally new level! I’m so frustrated right now, I waited so long for Lila & Maddox to finally see what was in front of them, for it to be over so quickly!
They are two opposite individuals who have something in common they find out later in their tug of war of hate and love.
This book gives you an in-depth look into Lilah & Maddox relationship from High School to College. A fair warning this is a very Slow Slow burn.
Maddox and Lila are such complex characters; I really loved that. And what a roller coaster they are! I loved how Lylah developed them and their story.
They started as enemies (I always like to see a girl who doesn’t let the boy bully her) to friends (it was so cute how they were there for each other) to lovers (so hot!). And that end! I also knew that Lylah loves to play with our little hearts (she loves to make us suffer) but I wasn’t expecting that!
“Friends?”
“Friends.”

First off, the prologue left me like wow that dare…
Anyway, I want to make this as spoiler-free as I can (I don’t promise anything). I enjoy friends-to-lovers but this one frustrated me a little bit. All I wanted to do was lock Maddox and Lila in a room so they could resolve their sexual tension. I could cut it with a knife, if I tried. Trust me, I wanted to try. Every time they did their little pinky promise, friendship BS, I wanted to smack them. TELL EACH OTHER HOW YOU FEEL!!!
Moving on, Maddox is a “bad-boy.” He’s your typical rich, cocky, high-school athlete. He plays football, surprise! Lila is a goody-two-shoes. She’s a feisty latina. She lives with her grandparents, as her parents died in a car accident. She was the sole survivor of the crash. Unfortunately, the drunk driver teen who killed her parents gets off the charges easy. His father was a well-known lawyer and friends with the judge handling the case.
When Maddox and Lila first meet, she’s completely unimpressed by him. In fact, later on in the story, she tells him the reason she hated him was because he reminded her of the person who killed her parents.
In order to sprite each other, they start pranking each other (the freaking dead roses and the Romeo and Juliet enactment in the cafeteria). Eventually, this leads them into becoming friends. Of course, Maddox had no shame into letting Lila know that he wanted into her pants.
The story takes place over the course of about 4 years. They graduated high school (his parents didn’t attend ). They pretend they can go on being friends, trying to completely ignoring their feeling for each other. They went to Harvard together. Then things get interesting once they go to Paris.
Overall, I loved this book! I really did enjoy it. The epilogue was and made want to read more. So, I got the second book and I’m reading it! I would 100% recommend this book.
A great read from a new author.
This book was something else all together. I regret not picking it up sooner. The prologue hooked me, and I haven’t been able to stop reading since I started this book.
Maddox is so much more than just a popular jock, and he’s proven it time and time again, he’s cocky alright, but what I loved about him was his loyalty to his friendship with Lila.
I adored how they were friends before lovers as this helped give their relationship such a stong foundation (and they still managed to screw it up sometimes—but well who doesn’t like a little drama) It was exhilarating seeing them be there for each other, for the bad and the ugly stuff too.
The chemistry between them, however, was insane! Not to mention the angst fest the book is, I was on the verge of pulling my hair, screaming at them to kiss already!
All in all this book was amazing, would totally recommend it!
Wow! What a story! Lila and Maddox are enemies. The popular star football player against the quiet outcast. It starts off as them playing pranks on each other until they become friends. Not just friends but the best of friends. Guys and girls are jealous of their friendship. They are closer than close but they each hide their feelings because they don’t want to lose this amazing togetherness they have and this rare love they have for each other.
This book was so heartwarming yet heartbreaking. This is my first Lylah James book and it struck me deep. I didn’t realize I was going to be hit so hard. It was so well written and now I’m going to obsess and binge read probably all her books!
Holy steamy romance book. From page 1 to that ending, wow, just wow!!! This book is absolute best enemies to friends to love book I’ve ever read. The entire time I was on the edge of my seat. Will they get together or won’t they! Wow no matter what happens, Maddox and Lila have one of the best relationships I’ve read in a book! They love each other so much but more so they need to take care of each other. Lila doesn’t put up with his crap. And Maddox needs Lila to comfort him and make him whole. This book is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait for book2, for more steam, angst and will they be together or won’t they. This book broke me in a great way. It is an absolute must read!!!
Maddox Coulter is the bad boy of Berkshire high. He is the the star quarterback that every girl wants. He is filthy rich, and gets anything he wants. With just a smirk he can have any girl he wants, until he meets Lila Garcia.
Lila Garica is a loner. She has one friend, but other than that stays to herself. She is focused on her studies and getting into Harvard. All that changes the day Maddox runs into her and spills her coffee on her.
Her life is turned upside down, and she is no longer invisible.
I absolutely loved this book. Maddox and Lila was amazing together. I was hooked from the very first page. What begins as a feud, turns into a friendship like no other.
I cannot recommend this book, and this duet enough. You will absolutely fall in love with this couple!!!
(KU read)
WHAT THE WHAT. Lylah- THAT ENDING?! I NEED BOOK 2 NOW! From the first chapter this book HOOKS you- you know where it ends up, and the whole time you’re trying to figure out just WHAT that opening meant, and how these interesting characters got there.
This first half of this duet was incredible- gripping, engaging, could not-stop-reading awesome. This didn’t play out how I thought it would – which made it all the more enjoyable. And interesting take on the eve popular bully genre- merging the friends-to-lovers trope in, we have an emotional and intense story!
I loved both Maddox and Lila. Nuanced and interesting, funny- such insane emotional and physical chemistry. Maddox is your typical reckless, yummy badboy. The QB womanizing jerk. Lila quite literally bumps into his life- and an epic relationship begins. She’s smart, driven, and witty- and also has some trust issues with guys like Maddox. She’s strong but compassionate- which made me really respect her.I loved her spunkiness- she’s assertive and knows herself, and with Maddox’s alpha attitude, it makes for some super witty and engaging verbal sparring and some hot sexual tension. Somehow what felt like it was a bully story then evolved- into a friendship with interest in more story. They are such a complex pair- their dynamic both challenges the worst in each other and complements the best. They relate to and heal one another’s past damages and pain. And, I loved getting under their tough, confident outer layers into the hearts of both of the characters. I always love the magnetic draw Lylah creates between her characters- the chemistry pours off the page.
This is definitely a slow burn as these two characters find their way to each other, but it is so worth it to watch the natural and dynamic progression of their connection to each other- even if you want to yell at them to get it together. And, since this is a duet, we don’t have our HEA.I NEED BOOK 2 now- I need to heal my heart! And, apparently it is coming soon. I can only imagine it will be a wild, steamy, emotional ride, and I am HERE for it!
Loved the book, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. Once I started I could not get enough, from the start till the end I was engrossed I was even on the edge of my seat with twists and turns, lust and raw passion, strength, happiness with a happily ever after. Do yourself a favor and buy the book you want be disappointed.

This has taken me forever to write about. Mostly because life kicked me in the ass and also partly because I had no idea what to say about this. If you know Lylah James, then you know that this is absolutely, positively different from what she usually writes. A queen and a staple in the mafia romance world, this author went out of her comfort zone to write this story and she absolutely blew it out of the park.
Do You Dare? by Lylah James, the first of the Truth and Dare duet, is a new adult friends to lovers romance and it’s addictive as hell. First of all, if you didn’t already know by now, this book absolutely ends in a cliffhanger and I HATED it. This is the kind of story that will consume you from beginning to end, you won’t even notice how far you’ve gone into it and it made me rage when I turned the last page. It was so good that I didn’t even realize it was over. It’s like cutting my feet off in a race just before the finish line. It ruined me.
I’m not the biggest fan of friends to lovers romances but Maddox Coulter definitely made up for it. There’s bullying and a definite enemies to lover’s vibe too. Our main characters, Maddox and Lila are best friends. Maddox is a world-class jerk with a god complex (can you blame him?) and Lila is a feisty girl just trying to make it through school. Their relationship was a bit unconventional at times, their chemistry insane, the sexual tension was scorching but the bond these two share is straight #goals. This book is one slow-cooked meal of angst. You will definitely be frustrated, you’ll scream and rage and get very impatient but these two are worth it.
I probably ended up highlighting the whole book because I swear, the banter, the sweet nothings, and the taunts gave me constant goosebumps. I loved everything about this story, the characters, and the romance that finally blossomed. I definitely recommend this book and I can’t wait til the next one comes out.
I didn’t know author Lylah James before, but that changed really quickly when I saw a teaser on Instagram about her upcoming book ‘Do you dare’. I became obsessed with her and followed every teaser and every little glimpse she gave us before the release.
And when this book finally hit my kindle…. Oh damn. It was mind-blowing. I guess I read it in one day and felt like a zombie the next.
Lylah wrote a truly heart wrenching love story of Lila and Maddox. At first they were enemies, then they were best friends and at last they became lovers. The path felt like an eternity there was always this chemistry and I really wanted them so just get it together and finally become a couple. Because that’s just what they are destined to be!
Both have been through a trauma but they help each other to overcome it
I must admit, that Maddox pissed me off in the beginning – but pretty soon it turned out, that he has indeed a truly good heart
If you love a great enemies to friends to lovers book, than you definitely don’t want to miss out on “Do you dare”
This was my first read from this author. I did enjoy the book but I was frustrated with both Maddox and Lila. I so wanted to smack them from time to time.
This is book number 1 in the Truth And Dare Duet series. What happens when a dare goes too far and it leaves you guessing everything? Maddox and Lila used to be best friends until one dare changed everything for these two. Twist and turns are everywhere when reading this book and we don’t get all the answers in this book as it ends on a little bit of cliffhanger. We will have to see what happens in book number 2 to see if Maddox and Lila get there happily ever after.

3.5
It’s been a couple of days and I’m still debating how to rate this book.
The blurb and then prologue instantly hooked me in and I was curious to read how it all started for Maddox and Lila.
I liked the first part with all their banter and chemistry. But half way through I started to lose interest. Middle felt flat and storyline started to drag. It felt repetitive and started to annoy me. The flow was also somehow inconsistent and choppy. And although there was enough background to really get to know Lila and Maddox and what shaped them into who they are today, I still didn’t connect with them as much as I would have liked.
Overall, super slow burn really frustrated me and I was disappointed with how book dragged in the middle. But ending also left me curious and eager to read the next book!

this book was intense, which is to be expected from the lovely lylah james. ive read all her mafia and his angel series and love them. i knew the darkness and intensity would come out and be explored. maddox was a complex character. so much pain, yet its easy to see he could hold so much love for lila, if he only allowed himself the pleasure of that closeness with her. lila comes off as fragile at first. the torture of her past is enough to bring tears to your eyes, but maddox, the reluctant hero, shows her a way forward. they are each others rock, but when rocks clash, sparks fly. i cant wait to read the next book and see where the future leads.
This book is absolutely fabulous!! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.
This book is like an intense tug of war where they both win, or do they? After that cliffhanger, I’m shocked and I’ve been left with my mouth open with tears in my eyes.
The sexual tension and chemistry is off the chart!! So hot!!! I can’t wait to read what happens next!!!
