“A big, blowzy romp through the rainbow eccentricities of three generations of crazy bayou debutantes.”—Atlanta Journal-Constitution“A very entertaining and, ultimately, deeply moving novel about the complex bonds between mother and daughter.”—Washington Post“Mary McCarthy, Anne Rivers Siddons, and a host of others have portrayed the power and value of female friendships, but no one has done it … female friendships, but no one has done it with more grace, charm, talent, and power than Rebecca Wells.”

The incomparable #1 New York Times bestseller—a book that reigned at the top of the list for an remarkable sixty-eight weeks—Rebecca Wells’s Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood is a classic of Southern women’s fiction to be read and reread over and over again. A poignant, funny, outrageous, and wise novel about a lifetime friendship between four Southern women, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood brilliantly explores the bonds of female friendship, the often-rocky relationship between mothers and daughters, and the healing power of humor and love, in a story as fresh and uplifting as when it was first published a decade and a half ago. If you haven’t yet met the Ya-Yas, what are you waiting for?

I first met the “Ya-Ya’s” years ago, in a movie theater (which was awesome btw). The book like the film takes a look at the life of Siddalee Walker, a 40-yr old stage director who takes time out from life to deal with her past. Rebecca Wells has managed that rare and wonderful thing, a book with rounded characters who we don’t always warm to immediately, but her skill in writing is that by the time we learn their real concerns we are rooting for them every step of the way. A Classic!
Crazy, crazy, crazy characters! But they knew each other and understood each other even as I tried to stitch the events together and wonder how mothers and daughters can have such explosive relationships. Ellen Burstyn was at her best!
Talk about tension! It was in everything, in every word, in every look, and so on. Scary stuff.
Sometimes I …
Rebecca Wells is an amazingly original, down-to-earth storyteller. Her Louisianna roots shine through her novels!
This book was inspirational in how friendships can be uplifting and gratifying. I saw clearly and related to the emotional healing and joy good friends can bring to one’s life. Read the book, don’t watch the movie (not even close to the book).
This is one of my all time favorite books
Sooooo much better than the movie! Hollywood has yet re-written and ruined a great story!! I’ve read it at least 3 times!
A very easy to read and the characters were so well described in their eccentricities. I admired the ‘hoods’ loyalty to each other.
Everything. Sad. Funny. Great book
This is a great read! The story is well written and realistic. The whole series is wonderful!
loved this book!
