Now includes an excerpt from the upcoming Four: A Divergent Collection.
This first book in Veronica Roth’s #1 New York Times bestselling Divergent trilogy is the novel the inspired the major motion picture starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet. This dystopian series set in a futuristic Chicago has captured the hearts of millions of teen and adult readers.
Perfect for fans of … adult readers.
Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games and Maze Runner series, Divergent and its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, are the gripping story of a dystopian world transformed by courage, self-sacrifice, and love. Fans of the Divergent movie will find the book packed with just as much emotional depth and exhilarating action as the film, all told in beautiful, rich language.
One choice can transform you. Beatrice Prior’s society is divided into five factions — Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she’s determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

This book had a lot of potential to live up to the Hunger Games dystopian vibes, but it fell flat. The characters are hard to fall in love with and the writing is confusing during the actions scenes, of which there are many. The main male character, 4 has borderline abusive tendencies which I do not love and the main female lead is a knock off …
In some parts of the story it is slow going. Some parts of the book I had to make myself keep reading to see whats going to happen next.
Good series.
I really enjoyed the whole series. Could not wait for the next book to come out. Would definitely recommend for quick and exciting read.
It was a out of this world but in this world thriller. I enjoyed reading it and its sequels.
I started this book and could not get past chapter 7. Nothing about it grabbed me. I didn’t care about the characters so it was hard for me to get invested. This is obvously a personal opinion and I know many people who loved the series.
One of my favorite series, I don’t even know how many times I’ve read it.
Read the entire series, which they had made more!!!
One of my favorites!
Just a fun and entertaining book!
I liked this whole series except for the last chapter of the 3rd book….in other words -the end.
Good YA read.
Love the whole divergent series allegiant is the only one I don’t have and want books always have more detail than the movies and with visualization skills you get a lot more from them
I LOVE this series. I am reading through it a second time because I read through it too fast on the first round. I am falling in love with the characters and the dystopian world that they live in, and the faction system is so intriguing that I find myself trying to embody each faction in my personal life. I would rate this series as being …
Makes you want to read the next series
Neice recommended this story out of my normal. I enjoyed both book and movie.
I love kid lit – this was a great, exciting read!
Loved the whole series. Even the 4th time around!
How should we prevent humanity from devolving into apocalyptic war again? I know… let’s divide into factions! And make kids choose whether to switch factions and leave behind everyone they’ve ever known when they’re teenagers! And let’s put one faction in charge of all the others because they’re somehow predisposed to be better governors! Also …
Very emotionally intense. Not for younger teens!
