Mallory Baldwin is a survivor. A former victim of human trafficking, she’s been given a second chance, yet not a night goes by that she doesn’t remember being a slave to weapons dealer Dante Torres. Despite being afraid of the dark and wary of strangers, Mallory is trying to rebuild her life by turning her tragedy into redemption. To former Navy SEAL Tennyson Walker, Mallory seems nothing like the … nothing like the shattered woman he rescued two years ago, and he can’t help but be inspired by her strength and resilience. So when a stalker suddenly makes Mallory vulnerable once again, Tennyson steps up as her bodyguard to keep her safe.
Mallory and Tennyson’s mutual attraction can’t be ignored, but neither can Mallory’s suspicion that Tennyson is keeping a terrible secret about her past. As the nightmare closes in, it’s not only Mallory and Tennyson’s love that comes under fire but their very lives as well. Will their faith sustain them? Or will the darkness win once and for all?

My first Christy Barrett book! Excellent story!! The issues raised are much more common than people want to believe. It was nice to see this have a happy ending.
Distorted is a thrill ride from beginning to end! The reader gets drawn into the action and suspense from the very beginning. Mallory, the main character in the book is a survivor of human trafficking. While vacationing in the Caribbean, her family was murdered and she was held captive for over a year. After her rescue, she took some time for herself and received counseling and has now written a book and is getting ready to head out on a speaking tour to encourage other survivors. Now that she is back in the public eye, she starts receiving threatening emails from an anonymous stalker and weird events start occurring in the cities she is visiting. So, former Navy Seal Tennyson Walker is brought in to protect her. However, this is not the first time they have met. He is the man who rescued her from her captor. It is a race against time for Walker to keep Mallory safe and get to the bottom of who is after her. The reader will be on the edge of her seat with lots of questions of who is behind all this. Just when you think you have it all figured out of who is after Mallory, the author throws you another curve ball and you just keep reading!
In my opinion, Christy Barritt handled the very difficult and heartbreaking issue of human trafficking very well in this novel. I appreciated her approach of having Mallory striving to become a victor and not a victim through the grace of God.
I would definitely recommend this book. It is full of suspense and just the right amount of romance for me.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Christy Barritt does it again. This book really sucks you in and you won’t be able to put it down. You follow the story of Mallory, a human trafficking survivor, who is on her book tour and Tennyson, her rescuer turned bodyguard. As more people reappear in her life and join her security detail, who can be trusted. There are perils and twists around every turn which keep you on the edge of your seat. This book is truly a must read for fans of romantic suspense.
“No one can help me.”
He shook his head. “That’s where you’re wrong. No one’s beyond hope. No one.”
I was provided a copy of this book by the author. All opinions in this review are my own.
This was not as good as other books by this author. I had a hard time keeping my mind on it. I usually grab books when I see they were written by this author. It could just be my mindset. I did read it while the world was shut down from covid-19.
Good attempt but it was just mediocre in all aspects for me.
I will continue reading Barrett’s books now that I’m hooked. Great plots. Great characters. Unexpected storylines. Realistic and riveting. My husband and I both love this author.
I like Barrit’s writing style. Usually, I enjoy them like a nice cookie and move on. This book, however, won’t leave my mind. I keep thinking back to what Mallory went through and how it could happen to anyone.
There are several red herrings in this book and Barritt did a great job with them. I wasn’t sure who the bad buy really was until the end. I’m pretty good at figuring out who did it by the middle of the book but not this time.
This is her best work and I’m looking forward to the next book. Follow this author!
Love her writings Keeps you guessing right up to the end plus they always have a bit of Christianity in them. No need to worry about fowl language either. You can be a successful writer with out gore and sex!
Both long-time and new fans of Christy Barritt will welcome this mystery. Distorted is the perfect and accurate title for this drama involving human trafficking. When people and situations are not what they appear, knowing whom to trust is a lethal risk. Join Mallory on her quest to healing and purpose as she devotes her life to helping other survivors. Meet Tennyson, on his journey of protection duty and detective work. Both work to navigate life after tragedy and into a deeper level of faith.
I received a free copy of the book without obligation. This review is my own opinion.
I loved this book!
Barritt’s Books are all wonderful but with the timely topic of human trafficking this one is special. Intriguing ,exciting, and plenty of romance!
Christy Barritt is a great writer. Great story.
Loved it! Very well written! Hard to put down!
Mallory Baldwin was kidnapped from a family vacation and lived as a prisoner for a year on an island with arms dealer, Dante Torres. Navy Seal, Tennyson Walker, had a score to settle with Dante Torres for previously murdering the woman he loved. After Tennyson rescued Mallory, and watched Dante Torres light himself on fire right in front of him, Tennyson left the Seals and went to work for one of his buddies in a security company. When Mallory decides to use her horrible experience to bring awareness to human trafficking, and to help other women in similar circumstances, she is put in the limelight with speaking engagements and book signings. With the spotlight on her, she begins getting stalker emails. Then rumors surface that Dante Torres isn’t really dead, and might be coming to get her, so Tennyson joins her team to protect her and to investigate who is leaving dead bodies in towns where Mallory speaks. This is the third installment in the Cape Thomas Series, but could also be read as a stand-alone novel. It is full of twists and turns and spine-tingling suspense! I kept trying to guess who was stalking her and to decide if Dante was dead or alive, and the desire to find the answers kept me reading late into the night! I was provided a copy of this book by the author. All opinions in this review are my own. I loved it!
I loved this book. Malorie is a survivor of sex trafficking, and she uses her past to help other women. But then someone threatens her safety. Is it someone playing an awful prank, or is the man who took her in the first place not as dead as everyone believed?
I loved that, while there is a blossoming romance, it doesn’t occupy the characters’ every thought (which drives me bonkers). It’s subtle and believable.
Enjoyed reading. More unpredictable than most.
I love the way Christy develops her characters. I have enjoyed many of her books and each one does not disappoint
This tense, suspenseful novel features Mallory Baldwin, who had been held prisoner by a notorious weapons dealer. Her captor died in an inferno, but now she fears he may actually still be alive and a threat to her safety and sanity. Can her bodyguards protect her? Will she ever be able to trust anyone again, especially a man? The title describes well the views throughout the story—what is real and what is possibly distorted? My heart went out to Mallory for all she’s endured. She seems quite real. The rest of the characters are not as developed but add plenty to the action and relationship issues. Christy Barritt always writes dramatic mysteries that may just leave you short of breath at times. I received the book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Very interesting Story, a former “slave” wanting to overcome, taking new steps. Whom to trust; whom to mistrust? Who is giving inside information out? Great audio Book, I love it.
I really wanted to like this book, but I only got halfway through it before I gave up. It was just too boring and the characters were flat and uninteresting. I finally decided that I didn’t care what happened, so I stopped reading it. Take my advise and pass on this one. It’s not worth your time.
