First in a series of historical novels by Sansom. Introduces the main characters and the years during which King Henry VIII of England dissolved the monasteries and convents and destroyed the Roman Catholic Church in England, due to his anger about the Pope refusing to allow him to divorce his wife. Recommended for those who love historical, fact based, novels.
Historically accurate. Interesting Characters, intriguing mystery that got the reader info, vex to the very end. Very well written
Had read the later books but so happy I caught up with this one. Makes you feel like you were there.
Read this book with a Kindle or have a dictionary handing. The book is written somewhat in the language of the time. It is about the dissolution of the Catholic monasteries and the distribution of their wealth. This is a real mind opener to someone without knowledge of the period. Through the series, the author does not appear to favor the Catholics or the Reformists. The stories are told as murder mysteries. Great reads.
Great reading.
