The Common Pleas Lawyer – This is my first read by this author and I am hooked. I found the storylines realistic and interesting. They weave a well thought out foundation with an exceptional character and several support characters. The story is set in the late 90s.
She is intelligent, ethical, hard working and striving to improve much in her life and help others. She is also naive when it comes to her heart. The reader sees the dastardly (rat) b@$t@#ds at work but she perseveres throught it all with dignity and self respect. She is a real example of a strong, independent woman.
While her life implodes from doing the right thing, she is able to rise from the ashes. I found this book on Booksprout and I purchased the second book. 5*

I love the Casey Cort series and all of the books up to this one – this one did not disappoint. The outcome of the court cases is unpredictable, at least I have discovered. This author is amazing. I cannot wait for the next book.

Casey Cort is caught up in the magic of everything in her world going her way. She expected her boyfriend, Tom Brody, is going to ask her to marry him soon. She is proud of her accomplishments in almost completing a very successful year as a senior editor on the law review. She has a wonderful job lined up with a top flight law firm, Morrell Gates, and now she only faces the bar exam which she is totally confident that she can pass easily.
But when Casey she looks at a submission for the law review, she finds one from Tom’s friend who graduated the previous year. It was written so well that she became suspicious and checked carefully for plagiarism. It became obvious that he had stolen most of it from someone else, and so being a strict follower of rules, she reports the honor code violation to the dean of the law school. To her dismay, as she goes head to head against wealth and power, her “friends” abandoned her and her future was derailed. Can she ever recover after losing everything?
This is a well-written prequel that will hold the reader’s attention as we are shown the consequences of trying to be honest in a corrupt world. Grab a copy and dive in – you won’t want to miss this one.
Suspense, mystery and intrigue pull you in to this well written mystery. Strong characters that are realistic and a strong foundation for the story line make this an excellent read. Highly recommend.

A sad commentary on the legal system.
A plagiarist from an inside track family with an honor code violation is bad news for the law review editor who discovers the misdeed
Too real not to be horrifying!
