Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again. After fifteen years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another.I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side. All I wanted was for him to come back to me.Then, Jackson Emery appeared. He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my … A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart.
We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love. He was too closed-off for me, and I was too damaged for him.
Everything was fine, until one night my heart skipped a beat.
I didn’t expect him to make me laugh. To make me think. To make my sadness somewhat disappear.
When our time was up, my heart didn’t know how to walk away.
Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again, yet slowly my prayers began to shift toward the man who wasn’t right for me.
I prayed for one more smile, one more kiss, one more laugh, one more touch…
I prayed for him to be mine.
Even though I knew his heart wasn’t destined to love.

“Someday, somewhere—anywhere, unfailingly, you’ll find yourself, and that, and only that, can be the happiest or bitterest hour of your life.”
WOW. Ugh. I swear, every time I think Brittainy C. Cherry can’t get any better at writing, can’t get any better at making me feel EVERY SINGLE EMOTION, can’t get any better at bringing characters to life… she just goes and does it. She’s like Cardi B man, she loves proving people wrong, and dang it, I love it when she proves me wrong.
This book was EV.ER.Y.THING.
“It’s okay to love someone even though they wronged you. You can’t pretend your feelings don’t exist because you’re afraid of what those feelings might mean. Sometimes, the hardest thing in the world is to love someone who broke your heart.”
I was sucked in from the very first page, the way the author used luggage to set up the scene was BRILLIANT. I fell in love with Grace, with her battered heart and kind character. To me, she embodies so many women — women who feel like they aren’t enough, women who struggle with knowing themselves outside of the men they’ve been with, women who do as they are told at the price of their happiness. She was so relatable in many ways, and also so easy to empathize with. I absolutely loved her.
“You’re allowed to choose yourself first.”
And then, there’s Jackson. FIRE. Omg!
Jackson Emery wore his trouble on his sleeve like it was his full-time job.
He’s my new favorite B Cherry man, and that’s saying a LOT if you know how obsessed I am with Tristan from The Air He Breathes. I think Jackson kind of reminded me of Tristan in a way, because he was so broody and cold, but he had REASON to be. And the more we found out about Jackson’s past, the more we saw him on the pages, the more I fell for him. He is EVERYTHING I love in a Hero — broody, mysterious, grumpy yet kind, protective, and more than anything, he was a looking glass. He was the key for Grace to discover herself, and he helped her walk on her own and not only that but he told her she was BEAUTIFUL when she did walk on her own. He loved her for her, and she loved him for him — scars and all.
“I don’t believe in you or your god, but I believe in her. No one has ever stood by my side in all my life except for her, so the least I can do is stand beside her in the same fashion. This family means more than words to her, so that’s why I’m here. For her and her alone.”
SA-WOON.
There were so many powerful moments in this book, and I once again found myself laughing on one page and crying the next. I’ve decided that’s Brittainy C. Cherry’s favorite thing to do — make us feel all the feels.
And I do mean ALL of them.
“If you ever fall in love again, please let it be with me.”
If you love angsty, emotional romances, this one is for you. If you love small town romances, this one is for you. If you love Heros with dogs and heroines discovering themselves, this one is for you. Honestly, if you have a pulse and like to read, this one is for YOU.
I will literally read anything B Cherry writes, including her grocery lists, if she’ll let me. I am so happy I discovered this author a couple of years ago and have had the chance to go on so many emotional, amazing journeys with her and her characters. 5 CAN’T GET ENOUGH STARS!
The book was an incredible journey with characters that test their own boundaries and that try to find their footing, it is an incredible ride.
Wow! I always expect something powerful from this author but when a story resonates with a reader the way this story did it means so much more. Grace and Jackson are essentially the odd couple. Grace is the good girl from the good family always expected to do the right thing. Jackson is the pariah along with his Dad shunned by their small community.
When circumstances bring them together they realize that their similarities far outweigh their differences. And when they allow those similarities to bring them even closer its a beautiful thing.
Cherry does a magnificent job with this story. The emotions that bleed from the pages. The poignant moments that make you feel and the way everything comes full circle in the end will leave you with a full heart and probably some shed tears.
Once again Brittainy did a phenomenal job! This book was so emotional and raw. Had me hooked from the very beginning and needed to know how it ended.
**you see my soul, you see my heart** **she’s the light in my darkness**
Every time I read a book by this author, I just get blown away by the words she’s written. The feelings you experience when reading her books is overwhelming at times.
Gracelyn and her husband are separating after being together for more than fifteen years and she’s going back to her hometown for the summer to try and recover but a secret will come out and it’ll be more than she can bare. Not only does she need to deal with her overbearing mother but also with the rumors in the small town that is ripping her heart even more apart. When she first meets Jackson, they get off on the wrong foot but because of his reputation, she stays clear of him. But it isn’t as easy as it seems to stay away and the more she gets to know him, the more she sees he has the kindest heart and isn’t like everyone is portraying him and even his father to be.
Jackson has been dealing with a lot of trouble over the years and since his mother passed away, he has been spiralling out of control. On top of that, the whole town seems to be judging his every move and making his life even harder. But when he meets Gracelyn again, he sees her as the Preacher’s daughter and a know-it-all but the more time he spends with her, the more he sees her that she’s more than just a pretty face. Maybe, just maybe, they can heal each other. But a secret from the past is looming over them. Will they finally get the peace they deserve or will they fall apart even more? Can they be the light in their darkness?…
A touching page turner that leaves you at times in a tear jerking and mind numbing feeling to yet unexpected triumph. Gracelyn Mae is having a tragic moment, after fifteen years her husband Finley has walked away from her and she’s devastated. She moves back home to Chester, Georgia the small town she grew up in for the summer and wonders how will survive the gossip that people are saying about her and why her marriage collapsed. The introduction of Jackson is is real and heartbreaking at the same time. Jackson has alot of anger in him and rightful so, the town see’s him and his alcoholic father as the outcast and so Gracelyn Mae whose family are the high society type and a troubled by her new friendship and relationship of Jackson. Can I say Gracelyn Mae mother is the worst mother I believe I have read about in quite some time. Instead of encouraging her daughter about the fall of her marriage she criticizes her and its heart wrenching to read. With the mother being such a villain it was wonderful to see Grace’s friend from childhood Josie help along the way back to the road of recovery and Grace’s sister Judy who allows Grace to move in with her and her husband Hank. These ladies helped Grace overcome some intense moments. Ms. Cherry’s has written yet another page turner with angst frustration anger sadness and triumph. Shas not only done it again with believable characters but realistic issues that begs the question after devastating betrayal do you lose all hope or you fight through to recover and the answer is you do. Was giving an arc by the author. (less)

This book was devastatingly perfect. I knew from page one that is was going to be an emotional read. The pain, confusion, loneliness and the longing to be loved and accepted in this book will hit you profoundly. You can’t help but she’s many tears while reading this book your heart breaks in tiny little pieces and by the end you will feel it heal. Meet Grace – Gracelyn – Harris. She’s small town royality and now forced to look reality in the eye and find her new way to live. Her husband walks away from a 15 years of marriage after struggling with infertility and shatters her whole world. Grace is drowning in her own skin unable to cope and move on. Grace has a very low self-esteem, she lost herself and can’t find her way back -“ I dont know who I am” that broke my heart for Grace. She is so lost and drowning until Jackson walks into her life and changes her story.
Jackson Emery is a haunted soul. He’s the shunned outsider with issues and a lot of baggage. He’s a angry young man with a difficult life. Both are broken souls. When they meet they have this crazy instant connection and their chemistry is through the roof and palpable . But society and family are full of prejudices and try as hard as possible to break them apart. They make a HEA nearly immpossibly. How ever they truly see each other for who they are and how beautiful they can be together. They grow a friendship that evolves into a beautiful love story.
I’ve been on an angst filled binge read lately. Disgrace hit every single one of my buttons. I laughed and I ugly cried. I fell in love with the story of Grace and Jackson. I felt every one of their heartbreaks and celebrated at every one of their victories. Always and Always…five unbelievable stars.

OMG!!! What an emotional story about love, healing, hope and self discovery.
I haven’t read many books by Brittainy C Cherry, but every time I read a new book by her they just get better and better!!
Disgrace was so worth the wait!!! I LOVED every word of this story. It was such an emotional rollercoaster that my heart didn’t know how to feel, but I didn’t want to get off!!! This book is a MUST READ!!! Definitely one that will top my Best of 2018 books list.
I know my review won’t do this story justice, but just know this, you WANT to read this book.!!!
This is a storyline that I don’t want to discuss too much, because as with any of her books, you will want to FEEL this story for yourself. This story does tackle some serious and tough subjects but I loved how it all played out. You can’t have the ups without the downs. I am absolutely enthralled by Brittainy’s writing!!! Her stories captivate me and her characters are so down to earth and real, that I feel like I am a part of their world. Her flow and pace of this story was perfect!!!
Disgrace is a standalone novel told in Dual POV. I loved being in both Jackson and Grace’s mind. I felt that helped with connecting to their stories. This book is an enemies to friends to lovers story. What truly made this story special was the friendship that formed between Jackson and Grace. I was amazing to see them “zoom in” on each other (that will make sense when you read the book). This is a story about two broken souls just trying to survive. But when their paths crossed neither one of them could have predicted what would happen next.
I can honestly say this is one of my ALL TIME favorite books of 2018 and I believe this book is a MUST READ for everyone. The characters were captivating and the storyline was intriguing, emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming all in one. I know this review is short and vague, but truly take my word for it….READ THIS BOOK!!!!
You don’t want to miss this AMAZING book!!!!
I really just love reading Ms. Cherry’s books. They are so full of emotion, real struggles, and real people.
Well edited.
Grace is having a tough time. After 15 years together (including dating, engagement, and marriage), Grace and her husband are separating. He’s found someone new, but blames Grace’s emotional withdrawal after several miscarriages for his affair. Except this one isn’t the first, just the final. As they close on their house, they head back to their small hometown for the summer. A place where everyone gets in everyone’s business and feel obligated to dissect and ‘help’. Can you say awkward? Grace’s mother is more concerned with appearance than reality. The townspeople are willing to offer comfort, condolence, or support, all while gossiping behind your back. Grace’s sister, Judy, and the town bookshop owner, Josie, are the only real friends in Grace’s corner. Then, there is Jackson. He’s younger, angry, the town jerk, and all around bad boy. Except, Jackson really isn’t a bad guy. He saves Grace from a car accident, offers support when she has a panic attack, and slowly begins a friendship with her. Both people find their preconceptions to be wrong. As they explore a summer fling, Grace’s mother tries to get her to go back to her cheating husband. However, Finn (the cheater) has gotten the other woman pregnant. And, she turns out to be Grace’s supposed best friend. Grace is devastated, Jackson offers comfort, and Grace begins to move ahead with her life. Self-discovery is new for Grace – she doesn’t even know how she likes her eggs. Will the new Grace have room in her life for Jackson? Will their casual fling turn into something deeper? Will a bombshell from the past blow them apart?
So many feelings. So many great characters. So glad to see Grace stand up and claim her life for herself. Jackson and Grace both have loads of hurt, but together, they find a way to close the past and move to the future. Enjoy!
I loved it! It’s intense, touching,
steamy, & very emotionally moving.
Grace Jackson, make the story
come alive.
Lots of secrets revealed.Twists & turns.
I truly enjoyed everything about this
must read book, from the first pages
to the last!!
This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.
Let me just wade through the mountain of Kleenex piled up on my bed to get to my computer. I have no words for this book. If I had to describe it using one word, I’d probably use beautiful. The message in this story was just plain beautiful. It talks about “zooming in” on people. Seeing more than just what others show us. Looking at the core of people and seeing that we all bleed red. We all have hopes, dreams, fears, etc. At our cores, we are all the same. We’re all struggling with something. It’s so simplistic when you think about it.
This is a story about forbidden love. The pastor’s daughter and the town drunk’s son. This story has so many twists and turns to keep you from never wanting to put your kindle/book down. The characters are so deep and complex. They each had their own stories and reasons for being how they were. It was heartbreaking to read but so eye opening.
I hate to say much about what happens in this book because I want you all to experience it for yourselves. I don’t want to spoil anything that happens because it’s truly a masterpiece. This book is all about love. The good, the bad, and everything in between. Disgrace was my first book by this author and I’m just flabbergasted by her writing. I just want to throw everything else to the side and read everything she’s ever written.
I really loved how this story featured anxiety and panic attacks. I don’t read many books where this is touched on so I truly appreciated having it in this one. I also want to tell you about the bookstore they had in the book. In the town they have this bookstore where you can go in and sit and read for however long you like. The only rule is, once inside you cannot talk. I thought that was so cool to have a bookstore that you could read in for however long you liked. It was a book lovers dream. Another awesome detail in the story was they had this big, bad guy that everyone feared who only read young adult books. HOW COOL IS THAT? See, you can read whatever genre you like and that is okay. That really touched my heart. I always say you can read whatever, whenever as long so you aren’t hurting anyone, who cares?
Overall, it’s clear this book was a home run for me. I can’t recommend it enough. Even if you aren’t a fan of romances, I still think you’d like this one.
Delightful. Beautiful. Lovely. Heartening.
Hopefully.
I enjoyed this soo much.
And this is what I got- Many aspects of Love.
Love from parents, children, friends, lovers and the loyal companions pets
I was able to relate and I love it when a story does that to me.
#Perspective
Loyalty. Trust. Family values. Forgiveness- Not only to others but ourselves.
Don’t take tomorrow or anyone for granted and Never lose faith.
Such a wonderful story with power in its words.
I loved. I cried. I believed.
Another great book by this author….beautiful story
Man this was such a great book! I felt so many emotions throughout this book. Brittainy did such a great job of sharing the struggles that Jackson and Grace faced in life. Through Brittainy’s words my heart broke for Jackson and Grace. I hated the town on their behalf! I loved how they formed this friendship that allowed them to begin the healing process in their lives. I thought that they had so many similarities but it was perfect because it helped them help each other. I loved Jackson’s tough exterior but how he had a heart of gold. This was a beautiful story. It is an absolute must read!
What’s beautiful read…that’s all I need to say to sum up this Powerful story full of so many Powerful Moments!
The authors writing is stunning, flawless and I’ve had so many feels, wow, what a beautiful book!
Jackson and Grace will each grab onto your heart and never let go. The ending, so very beautiful! I loved every word and can’t recommend highly enough!
This book has all the feelings, I found myself encouraged, angered and emotional. The characters connections are spot on. The pace of the book is steady. I didn’t want it to end. It’ll definitely be a re-read for me.
Grace’s life is spiraling out of her control, having to move home to a small town in the mist of her marriage ending is not what she envisioned fifteen years ago.
Jackson has lived in the same small minded town since he was a boy. Events from his childhood has turned him and his father into the towns demons. If the town had it’s way they would fall through the earth and not be missed.
Day one Grace runs into Jackson in the worst way, her car breaks down leaving her stranded and a mess. Who could have predicted that two broken spirits could find healing in a small, judgmental, unforgiving town.
Disgrace by Brittainy C. Cherry is an amazingly wonderful emotional and angst-ridden romance that, thankfully DOES have a happy ending. Told in dual POV this book is such a redeeming wonder from the terrible treatment of Jackson in the beginning to the emotional quagmire that the previous generation of Jackson and Grace’s family’s caused all the way to the emotional journey each of these characters takes to truly find themselves before they learn to find each other. The story is a journey, the frustration with the townsfolk, the disappointment in Jackson’s father, the emotional pain Grace experiences at the betrayal she has suffered. But it is a beautiful journey and one I was privileged to take. Enjoy!
5 amazing emotional stars
Unanswered prayers……something Grace knows to the depths of her soul. For 15 years – Grace gave up her dreams for the man she loved. Finn’s dream overtook their marriage. Leading the couple through trials and tribulations that Grace was happy to dive into. The one thing that they couldn’t achieve was the dream for a family. Miscarriage after miscarriage plagued the couple. Driving Grace into despair and leading her to withdraw from life. The last thing Grace expected was that longing would be the push her husband needed to seek comfort in the arms of another. An end to the life that Grace wanted, but not an end to the love that she possessed for the man that was supposed to be there through thick and thin.
With the realization that moving back to her hometown would start the gossip spreading, Grace headed to the one place where her feelings would matter the least. Back to the town that knows her as the preacher’s daughter. A place where Grace is expected to hold her head high and roll with the punches. Insult and not so subtle whispering is directed Grace’s way. Through it all Grace tried to keep her pride. A task that was weaning with each passing day. Until Grace crossed paths with Jackson.
Jackson was everything that Finn was not. As the local ‘bad boy’, Jackson has seen his fair share of women strolling in and out of his door. With his father always drunk beyond reproach, Jackson definitely doesn’t possess the passion for life that one would expect from someone so ‘popular’. As a mechanic at his father’s garage, Jackson keeps to himself. Except for those stolen moments he can be found in the local bookstore or in the park. Grace knows there is more to Jackson that the hardened exterior that is shown to the rest of the town.
Nothing prepared Jackson for the moment he crossed paths with Grace. The little rich girl who was the epitome of everything that Jackson hated about this town and the people that resided in it. A ‘princess’ if you will to the ‘royal’ family…..the preacher’s daughter. Everything that Jackson wants to ‘hate’. That is easier said than done. Nothing about Grace is as it seems. The more that Jackson pushes Grace away, the more he becomes captivated by her heart. How can one person take all of the sadness away so easily?
Let me take a breath for a moment…….can I tell you how much I loved this book?? Every single time I pick up a Brittainy Cherry book – I know that I am about to be transported into an emotional journey that will be unforgettable. Disgrace was truly that kind of story!! Grace and Jackson are unlike any characters you have met before. In fact – their journey will consume you, capture you in its grasp, and leaves you with the realization that even the most broken soul can find redemption. This novel is another HUGE hit from Brittainy Cherry that I am not sure to forget anytime soon. What I can do is tell you to add this one to your TBR…or better yet…one click Disgrace TODAY!!
This was my first read by this author and I absolutely adored it! It had all the emotions it made me laugh, cry, hurt and be angry but most of all it made me happy. It reminds you to look deeper at others and see the true them, what is hidden under the person besides what they express and show to others. Grace and Jackson find that in each other through all of their hurt. My heart was broken not only for Grace and her situation with her cheating husband but for Jackson as well, losing his mother and his issues with his father. The way everything is tied together in the story will answer all of the readers questions. There will be characters you truly hate but once you get to see them and look past their outer self you see the hurt they have been hiding and you see why they are the way that they are. This was an amazing story of friendship, love and loss and how those effected can heal together. It ends with a HEA which is always a plus. This Author did an amazing job and this is definitely the top read of 2018 for me!
