Wow…Discreet was amazing.
The characters are complex and well thought out. Their story was compelling and had me devouring every page. It was also a heart-rending tale and had me in tears quite a few times. I loved every bit of it though.
This was just the beginning of Maggie and Will’s story. I’m dying to find out how it ends for the two.
Can’t wait for Indiscreet.
Nicole is an amazing writer. Her books always grab your attention and keep you guessing what is going to happen next. Discreet is a pure example of this.
Discreet is a story that is about two people wanting and needed to live their lives differently than they were. Maggie is a small town woman trying to make it big with her singing career. Who was in a bad relationship which guides her back home to the same situations she left home with. She meets a neighbor(Will) who wants nothing to do with civilization. However, as Will and Maggie continue to “bump” into each other sparks fly.
No matter how much Will tries and warns Maggie he is no good for her, they can not stay away from each other. The suspense written in Discreet is incredible. Kept me on my toes the entire time I was reading it. Can not wait to find out how Will and Maggie story ends. Will they let the sparks fly between them or let them die down?
Holy moly, did this book suck me in! From the very beginning, Maggie tugged on my heart because she’s so utterly lost and afraid. She meets a confusing man, Will, who is just as lost and possibly more afraid than she is, but he keeps running between the extremes of white hot and Siberian cold, so she’s not sure if she should give in and befriend the one person who makes her feel a spark. Eventually, she and Will become friends and lovers, even though she knows he’s hiding so much of himself from her. Once we finally think that they’ve gotten over the worst of the obstacles, Will’s secret is outed in a HUGE way. Maggie is blindsided by the truth and all I can wonder is, what will she do?
This does end in a cliffhanger, but I can guarantee that I’ll be waiting (im)patiently for the second part of this duet, especially since I finished this book in an afternoon. Yes, one. It’s really THAT good and grabs you from jump. After all, I have SO many questions that need answering. Who outed the secret (though I’ve got a pretty good idea)? Is Maggie’s past going to hurt her more? Is Will’s past going to shatter what’s left of her heart? I can’t wait to find out!
Great story telling by Ms. French. Intense passion between two lost souls that needed each other.
Omg! Where do I start with how unbelievably incredible this book is. My emotions are running rampant and my heart is beating out of my chest. The story of Will and Maggie will completely and utterly blow your mind. These two meet in unusual conditions and know from the very first moment they meet that there is definitely something there, something they need to discover, but how? Both of their lives are a mess and neither really wants to embark on any kind of relationship, but they just can’t seem to keep away from each other. Will is a bit of a recluse and Maggie has her own issues and fears that she needs to deal with. This story has so many facets to it, that your head will spin. I am in complete awe of this authors writing abilities, just pure talent. I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to read the next to find out what happens to them.
Maggie Sharp is a promising singer/songwriter but she heads home to Newman Lake after a bad relationship with Theo del Conte. Now she is trying to help her alcoholic mother turn their property into a bed & breakfast while trying to find herself again and move on from her past.
Will Baker is living by himself on Newman Lake and has completely kept to himself the past 4 years until a series of accidents keeps landing Maggie in his path. But as much as Will wants to be around Maggie he keeps pushing her away believing that he is not any good for her.
As Will and Maggie try and figure out their feelings for one another it is clear that they are both running from events from their past. Whose demons will be the first to show and will they be honest with one another or will the lies drive a wedge between them?
This book has started off so good! The story is so full of mystery and we only get glimpses of the back story through the entire book and it leaves us needing more at the conclusion of this one.
I really liked Maggie and I hated learning about what she went through and why she needed to escape New York. It was obvious that she had talent but was afraid to remain in New York after certain events and she headed home to Newman Lake. I felt sorry for her there as well though as it was obvious that she had issues with her mom due to her drinking. Yet Maggie still was there for her mom the best she could be and I admired her for that.
Will was so full of mystery and even though the reader knew who he was, it was so interesting trying to find out why he disappeared. Will was so closed off yet you could see his walls gradually crumble due to Maggie and the effect that she had on him. The two began to get so close yet Will would continually push her away.
I loved the overlapping of the two stories and how everything slowly began to fall into place with the two of them opening up more and more to each other.
The text messages were worrying me and I was definitely freaking about what could be coming!
The end was like OMG and I am eagerly waiting for part two!! – Rebecca
Okay First off this is the first book I have read from Nicole French and it will not be the last. I was literally on a roller coaster ride the entire book. I was happy then I was sad then I was mad as hell. I was screaming at my kindle because I wanted to go upside Maggie and Will’s head.
Will is tired of the lime light and has decided to trade his crazy wild life in for a more calm life living on an island. Once he moves there he is happy with the peace and quiet. It is a change for him at first but the quietness he loves. Then he meets Maggie and everything changes for him.
Maggie has failed at her career and she moves out to the island to restart her life and get over her epic fail at life. At first she is enjoying herself and rebuilding her life until she sees the stranger across the lake. She knows he is trouble and tries to stay away but she can’t and before she knows it she is getting to know the stranger and starting to like him even though she tries not to.
The push and pull of Will and Maggie is what makes this story. They push each others buttons and when the quiet life they have built up is in jeopardy they both pull together to keep each other safe.
Angsty. Hot. WONDERFUL.
Nicole French sure knows how to keep you on edge through and through with Discreet. Maggie is is a strong heroine for this story and she is perfect even through her flaws. “Will” is a whole lot of trouble. With a tortured soul that Will has, it was a slow burn for me. I struggled a bit to warm up to him. He was vicious. But as the story unwound, I finally understood. Again, Maggie shows strength when her world is barely staying together by a thread.
Discreet will give you the fire and passion. My brow was set as a “V” through the story. I could not stop scowling as I kept asking myself, could these character go through more. Next chapter, it would get worst. But the heart of it all has me giving a 5 star review. You cannot help but have all the feels when reading a Nicole French book. The dark will grip you but the love will set you free. Well that was what I was feeling until the very end! The cliff hanger has me wracking my brain. I have no idea how this will play out. I am on the edge with the unexpected texts that come into play. Wow! What a story. Discreet is a must read!
Wow this book is just Wow. I don’t know where to start. Nicole French you left me speechless
Fitz Baker just disappeared from planet earth 4 years ago running from a hectic life.
We then meet Maggie, a broken girl with broken dreams who return to her childhood home to try to heal and help her mom. On a training run she meets a weird, hermitage but handsome stranger name Will.
After a few misunderstandings they can’t deny the attraction and we get two broken people loving each other. They are passionate, they argue, sometimes you’ll want to slap some sense into Will but it was all worth it.
I can NOT wait for the next book to come out in late October. Best bday present
Gah, struggling for words here. AMAZING. Nicole’s talent just leaves me speechless. Time after time she has proven her ability to pick up a reader and plop them right into her characters’ world. I always feel so fully immersed and invested in the novel.
This story is captivating, mysterious & steamy. The sexual tension and chemistry oozes off the pages. Real, flawed, relatable characters. CAN’T WAIT for part 2!!
Will and Maggie are beautiful, heart-wrenching and they will piss you off just a little bit.
Discreet by Nicole French was quite an emotional whirl of a story filled with intense feelings, a broody hero and a quiet, unassuming heroine. These two characters were each broken in their own way with their past leaving a barrel load of pain and turmoil behind it. They shouldn’t have fit together but they did. Each held the answer to the others distress but can they do enough mend all that has been damaged by others?
I loved these two and can’t wait for the second part of this duet
