Do you believe in soul mates? If not then this story might change your mind. I don’t want to say too much to spoil the story for you but Justin and Lucy are destined before their first meeting. This one has a slow burn feel to it and I really enjoyed it. This was a new to me author & I will definitely be looking for more of her work. Recommended.

Discovering You is the first book in the Indigo series. It is also Kate McBrien’s debut! There is just something about discovering a new author that excites me. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Now, let’s talk about Justin and Lucy’s story.
Lucy was dedicated to her work as an intern at the Preston Art Museum. She loved the research she was doing and it was helping her get closer to getting her PhD in Art History. She was so dedicated that she rarely went out with her friends, only saw her family for events, and very rarely dated. And when she did, she pushed them away when they got too close. Luckily, the man she met on the beach one day after chasing her neighbor’s dog wasn’t going to let her. The connection was too great for him to just walk away. She had no idea who Justin was during their first encounter. The lead singer of Indigo.
Justin was tired of the parties. The groupies. The craziness. He was ready to settle down. He had no idea he would meet the woman to make him want to so soon. She was a vision. Someone different from all the others. He somehow knew that from the moment he met her on the beach and even more so when he saw her again. He had to get to know her. She was a challenge but he knew she would be worth the fight. Can he prove to her that they were worth it too?
I thought this was a wonderful debut. The story flowed. The characters are likable. Swoon-worthy even. They mystery surrounding them made it even better. Do you believe in soul mates?
Overall…I thought it was a fun, sexy, and thoughtful book. I have a feeling the next book is going to be even better!
Quotes:
“I’m going to do something I’ve never done before.”
“What’s that?” she asked.
He chuckled. “I’m going to be a gentleman.”
“It will be my honor to be the man who can make you appreciate just how exquisite you are, in every way. When you’re ready, and not before.”
“Is this what you wear while you do research? If it is, then I would happily become your assistant.”
Lucy is a young woman working an unpaid internship at a local museum when she experiences something she can’t explain while examining a newly arrived Byzantine cross. When she touches it, a bunch of images flash before her eyes, and extreme sorrow brings her to her knees. The bizarre incident isn’t explained, and she starts to have strange dreams afterward.
Early the next morning, after a restless night filled with weird dreams, she goes for a run on the beach and a chance encounter with a gorgeous guy whose eyes are weirdly similar to hers, takes her aback. But it’s later that night when her friend drags her to a concert for the band Indigo, that her life will irrevocably change because the lead singer of Indigo is the man with the similar eyes, and he can’t get her out of his mind, and decides to pursue her.
As their lives slowly intertwine, they both experience strange dreams, and their electric connection only gets stronger, they can’t help but fall in love. But her sleazy boss and cold, matchmaking mother, and his sleazy ex all have different plans in store for Justin and Lucy. Will they make it through? And what connection, if any, does that Byzantine cross have to Lucy and Justin?
I enjoyed Discovering You. Justin and Lucy make a great couple with an electric, if somewhat bizarre, connection. I did feel as if there was a bit too much going on, and some somewhat manufactured drama, what with her mom, his ex AND their mystical connection to the cross; but I still enjoyed reading about them falling in love. The ending was really abrupt, though, and that’s the main reason for the 4, instead of 5, stars. Aside from somewhat too much drama and the abrupt ending, though, I found Discovering You interesting, and I’m really looking forward to the rest of Justin and Lucy’s story.

My Thoughts:
Be warned before you read this, the ending is rather abrupt. It literally ends on a cliff hanger and you will have to wait for the next book in this author’s series. Not only that but this is her debut novel and I really did like it until I found out I have to wait for another book at least to resolve this story.
As I said this is her debut and I would like to have found a HEA ending but it isn’t there, at least not in this book.
I gave this title 4.25 of 5 stars for storyline and character development and a hot sensual rating of 4.75 of 5.0 flames.
This book is filled with intimate moments that are very descriptive.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this title to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
4-Stars!

Discovering You by Kate McBrien is a steamy read. The heat rises slowly in this novel but once the switch is flipped, it boils over with passion.
Lucy Bianchi is working on her dissertation to get her PhD in art history. She is also an intern at a gallery and is thrilled to have the opportunity to see the Varangian cross. When she sees and handles the cross for the first time, she feels dizzy and gets a headache but thinks no further on it.
Justin Hamilton is part of a band but is beginning strides to become a solo artist. Through his music, he manifests his longing to meet his soulmate.
While recording a few covers, he finally meets her. He doesn’t know how or why but he knows Lucy is it for him.
Upon their first meeting, Lucy and Justin feel an instant attraction and a strong sense of familiarity. How could this be? They have never met before that day…
It seems destiny has brought these two lovers together against all odds but will they be torn apart by circumstance?
Gah! This book was so frustrating! I didn’t realize it was part of a series and it ended on a cliff hanger! (my fault, of course )
Regardless of the above, I was completely invested in their story. I NEED to know what happens!
Discovering You is told in dual POV and told well.
The historical prologue at the beginning of the book was engaging. Afterward, the author let that thread lie which was a bit confusing since there is no more mention of it for the remainder of the book. In my opinion, the author should have left the historical part out or should have made some other reference to it through flashbacks or visions as I believe this historical aspect is pertinent to the story unfolding.
There is OW and OM drama but it is tastefully done. Not too over the top.
Lucy’s character is unsure of herself. She is still under her parents’ thumb and they control so much of her life. I am anxious to see Lucy become independent of them and become confident in herself.
Justin is a wonderfully romantic hero. He is kind and caring but he makes a few mistakes along the way that made me angry!!!
I loved both these characters and absolutely adored them together.
This book was intriguing and I cannot wait to read more about the cross and what power it holds over our two main characters and why.
This was an entertaining read and a great start to a new series.
