To avoid being sent across an ocean, Grace switches places with her sister. The only man aware of their deception? A dear friend, and her secret love. Grace Everly has no desire to set sail for the Caribbean, unlike her adventurous twin sister, Hope. Thanks to her sister’s irresponsible behavior and subsequent banning from the journey, Grace’s father decides to send her in Hope’s place. Desperate … in Hope’s place. Desperate to remain where things are familiar, Grace proposes an unthinkable plan: that she and Hope switch places. They only have to keep up the act long enough for Hope to board a ship in London. When the man who has stolen Grace’s heart learns of their secret, things get more complicated.
Jacob Barnes, soon to be ordained a vicar, has known Grace and Hope his whole life. Though close to both sisters, he’s dreamed of courting Hope for months. When he realizes his friends have switched places, putting the woman he admires out of his reach, he agrees to help with the subterfuge despite his bruised heart. As he watches Grace stumble in her acting abilities, attempting to change who she is, he realizes how much she means to him. But how does he tell her, without risking their friendship?
The deception puts their relationship to the test. As Grace hides her heart and her identity, Jacob examines his feelings, and no one in their community will be happy when the truth is discovered.

Love this series
I love this series! I can’t wait for Hope’s story and now want to read Silas and Esther’s story again. I am so glad Grace and Jacob received their HEA. I loved getting to know the two of them better and seeing how perfect they are for each other. This story was wonderful and I don’t want to give anything away.
Britton is a favorite author because she writes a very good love story. Nothing to crazy or over dramatic, no bodice heaving:} Just a boy and a girl falling in love in the most interesting ways. This was a good story of a woman coming to know herself better and the man who falls in love with her. This is also great because it shows how a woman was seen back then and how little by little the men and woman changed their views and ideas about life. It was a nice second book. I’m looking forward to Hope’s story. I want to get to know her better in the next book:}
I received this for an honest review.
Identical twins, who are very different in personality, face a difficult situation. They swap places, and are able to fool almost everyone, but will this trickery ultimately lead to heartbreak?
This thoughtful, sweet story, by Sally Britton really spoke to me. I love how Grace grew throughout the story, and how she stood up for herself.
Marian Hussey’s narration was well done. Her portrayal of the characters made for a very entertaining listen.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
I couldn’t wait to read Book 2 in the Inglewood series after reading Book 1 Rescuing Lord Inglewood. I love that Sally Britton continues with the same characters, some included in this book and others who weave back in slightly. I was not ready to move away from this community and I feel the same way after book 2. This book could definitely be read as a stand alone, but why, when you have a whole series that you can enjoy?
As the summary states, Hope and Grace are identical twins who were introduced in book 1. This is Grace’s story. She is happy at home, a picture of her name in all respects until her father sets out to send her on the trip to the West Indies that Hope had willingly accepted. Thus, Grace convinces Hope to switch identities mainly so that she can stay at home. The ploy works for all except Jacob, who knows the two all too well.
I enjoyed this story of discovery and always the question of how is society going to react to this situation, our actions, and our words. I appreciated Jacob’s dilemma as he finally gets to step into the role he has waited for yet, is concerned about the deception he has been thrown into by Grace.
As always, Sally Britton moves you through a beautiful storyline complete with highs and lows, scenes that you want to revisit again and again and a beautiful HEA.
This book is suitable for teens and older without inappropriate language or scenes.
I was given a free copy of this Audiobook In exchange for an honest review. Inglewood#2 Hope and Grace are young 20’s something’s twins. Hope is more on the wilder side and Grace more conservative. Friends of the family are going to St. Kitts and are taking Hope until a twist of fate, Grace is supposed to be then going. But the girls cook up a switch and Grace stays in Hopes place. Can she pull off the sw itch? Then there is Jacob Barnes who is a long time friend of the girls and soon to be the new vicar, which girl is he interested in? I enjoyed the setting of the book and how the girls handled their situation, along with who is in love with who part of the book. Definitely recommend.
I loved this story about Grace Everly and Jacob Barnes. This story is full of deception and discovery. Discovery of who one is and love. If you love regency and romance, you’ll love this book the second in the Inglewood series. I highly recommend this book.
Discovering Grace is an absolute delight to read. Aside from physically knocking Jacob upside the head to wake him up to his feelings toward Grace, I could have done the same to her. Since I abhor physical abuse, I’m glad it was only a book rather than a human being. However, had it not been for their friends and family, I think it may have taken Jacob a lot longer to realize that it was Grace and not Hope whom he loved. Hence, the title of this book. We knew up front what Grace’s feelings were so it was the constant anticipation of discovering when Jacob would realize his for her that kept me glued the pages. By the time they both confessed their feelings, it was almost anticlimactic. Ms Britton knows just how to string along her readers enough so that we can enjoy being taken along for the ride. Then at just the precise moment, we feel the great satisfaction of having been on that ride.
The premise of this one stalled me even though I loved the first book in the series. No adult set of twins I have ever met look so much alike they could fool their parents (well in this case just her Dad). Not to mention her maid, her cook, her butler, or her friends. And to be fair, Sally Britton does a pretty good job trying to make it plausible! But the relationship between Jacob and Grace is totally worth the read! Also Mr. Spratt is the cutest!
Well written. Like the characters
First, of all I have to say that I love Sally Britton’s writing, and I have read everything she has in print. This was a lovely story of Grace coming into her own. Grace switches places with her twin sister; Grace stays home and her sister Hope travels to the Caribbean to have the adventure of a lifetime. It is Grace that always worked behind the scenes planning parties and planning their charity work, but it was always Hope who always received the attention and credit. Hope also caught the eye of Jacob Barnes a lifetime friend of Hope and Grace, but Grace is the twin that is attracted to him. I have read the book and listened to the audio book. Marian Hussey did a wonderful job of narrating this delightful story; I loved listening to and reading this story.
Grace was reserved and a careful planner, while Hope was loud and rushed into things without thinking like racing her pony gig against her neighbors when she was told to stop engaging in that behavior. When that causes Hope to lose the chance to travel to the West Indies and Grace is offered up in her place, Grace is the one who schemes to change places and prays that no one discovers her deception before Hope is safely away. It must be interesting to be a nearly identical looking twin to be able to fool others from the outside. Jacob saw through the switch right away, but many people just look to the surface and it sounds like their casual acquaintances didn’t know Hope and Grace that well. I thought Jacob was too judgmental of Grace and couldn’t accept that she did this not only for Hope’s happiness but because she would have miserable on such a trip and shouldn’t have been punished for Hope’s actions. He was infatuated with Hope and overlooked her flaws, but he couldn’t see past Grace’s.
I loved the narrator who had a smooth rhythm to her reading with nice and funny inflections and a lovely British accent.
This is a toe-curling, swoon worthy romance. All the mischief and mix ups one would expect when twins switch places can be found woven throughout the story. Grace wants to stay home more than anything and surprisingly suggests that her and Hope switch places. Perhaps this is not uncommon behavior for twins, but Grace is the quiet, calculating and mature twin. Jacob knows immediately what they have done and finds himself in an awkward position where love and loyalty are tested. They both learn the value and blessing of being in love with your best friend. I actually found myself sighing out loud at the conclusion. A highly suggested clean, regency read.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and all opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
Love it! Fantastic writing and narration, trust me! I fell in love with the twins. “Discovering Grace” tugs at your heart strings and makes you see things and circumstances from different perspective.
I would love for you all to experience the joy of reading it yourself!
(I listened to this as an audiobook)
Story: 5 stars
Ms. Britton is a truly gifted author! This is the second book of hers I have listened to and she takes her time developing the characters. This story is no different. Grace truly does come into her own without losing who she has always been. (Sounds confusing? It’s not once you read the book.)
Jacob is waiting for a living and to be ordained a Vicar. I loved that this story isn’t about titled people, but the gentry who are more middle class. He won’t be rich or have a ton of servants, but his love story is as valid as any other.
Well-written and a joy to listen to!
Narration: Ms. Hussey has a very nice voice with a lovely British accent. Her voice is low enough that the men sound like men. Her pace, intonations and rhythm are excellent!
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
(I received a free review copy of this book and this is my honest review.)
Discovering Grace was a wonderful clean romantic story. I loved the characters of Grace and Jacob. Being deceitful is wrong, but what was Grace to do. She could not possibly go on a voyage across the sea. Would her choices ruin everything? I could not put this book down. Great job Sally Britton for writing another five star book! I cannot wait for Hopes story!
Discovering Grace is one of the sweetest love stories I have read this year. What I enjoyed most about it was that while it was super apparent to the reader that Grace and Jacob were the perfect fit, the author did a great job of helping the reader understand how Jacob and Grace were blind to their own obvious attachment and fit. This story is well-written and full of great characters. Definitely a great regency romance.
I love Sally’s books. I highly recommend this and the others as well.
Not quite as good as the first (Rescuing Lord Inglewood) but still engaging enough to keep me turning pages. When I had to stop, I found myself still thinking about the characters and wondering what was going to happen next.
I thought that the turn of events happened a little too quickly to be believable. The entire book takes place in only two weeks. That seemed a little too quick for Jacob to switch who he was in love with, as well as too quick for Grace to grow and change some of her most basic character traits.
But, in spite of this, I was still kept engaged and even enthralled in several scenes. The author has not only given me a world to enjoy but also an example to follow in how to write well.
It’s fascinating how the author used so many minute details to show how the twins were so different and how a person’s goals could affect so many minute details. “Grace took a moment to tuck a few curls back into her bonnet. Hope’s preferred way of dressing her hair, with frills and curls aplenty, was not at all practical for such an errand as this. Yet what was she to do?” (chapter 11, location 1465)
Favorite quotes:
“When Jacob spoke her name, Grace went cold inside and out. Her own father had not yet realized the wrong daughter remained at home. How had Jacob deduced such a thing in less than five minutes in her presence?” (chapter 6, location 767)
“We will not marry where there is not love. If a man truly loves Hope, he will see her for all her strengths and weaknesses, and not wish to change her. He will love her as she is.” (chapter 9, location 1251)
And, of course, the quote that resonates with every small-town girl at heart: “The few times I have been to London I have not been impressed. The city is filthy, the streets crowded, the parties loud, and neighbors far too interested in gossip. I cannot understand the appeal of it.” (chapter 11, location 1528)
I really enjoyed this book! It was a fun story that was different from others I’ve read. I have liked all of Sally’s books, but this is probably one of my favorites. I’m excited for the next book in the series.
