I have one six-year-old granddaughter so I was thrilled to see that this book is now available. Discipling Your Grandchildren targets grandparents who want their grandchildren to learn about God and experience a personal relationship with Him and His Son Jesus. This new book by Dr. Josh Mulvihill is filled with suggestions to achieve this goal but first, in chapter one, we are reminded just what the Bible says about grandparents. Mulvihill then shares tips for gift giving, food preparation, reading and memorizing the Bible, building relationships in both the home and church, and finally, he offers an extended section on celebrating different holidays during the year.
I am thrilled to have this valuable resource and I believe that Discipling Your Grandchildren would be a wonderful addition for church libraries!
I received a copy of this book from Bethany House but there was no obligation to post a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
Book Review–Discipling Your Grandchildren by Dr. Josh Mulvihill
Great Ideas to Help Them Know, Love and Serve God
I chose to read and review this book because I have four wonderful grandchildren whom I love dearly. I have always shared my faith with them and they have all come to know the Lord and do believe and walk with Him daily.
However, as a grand-parent, I want to always be alert to any and all ways that I might minister to those I love and if there might be some new way or insight I could share with my grandchildren in order to disciple them in the faith I want to know about it.
Well, I am happy to say I am not disappointed with what I found in this book’s pages. There is a wealth of information that grandparents can share with their grandchildren of all ages. Whether you live near or far, whether your grandchildren are young or older, there are options and resources you can use to share your faith with them. In fact, there is such a multitude of ideas that at times it was overwhelming to read!
“There is something for everyone in this book. Discipling Your Grandchildren was written by a grandparent and two parents. It is grandparent tested and parent approved. It is biblically based and application oriented. ” (quotes from DYG pg. 16)
This book is not just a book to pick up and read once. It is a book that you will need to read and process slowly and then keep on hand to read and re-read. It is really a wonderful resource that you will want to go to many times over.
There are ten chapters packed with many ideas all grandparents can use as a way to disciple their grandchildren in a loving, caring, everyday way. Personally, I found quite a few I will be using to share with my grandchildren.
I highly recommend this book to any grandparent, or it would make a great gift a parent could give to a grandparent.
I was given a copy of this book free by Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own.
