From author Stacey Kennedy comes Dirty-Talking Cowboy, the first book in the Kinky Spurs series Emma Monroe has returned to River Rock, Colorado, after the death of her grandmother. Now she’s inherited a farm full of abused animals and she’s working as a waitress at the local hotspot, Kinky Spurs. The last thing Emma wants in her life is a man, as she’s still recovering from a recent heartbreak. … from a recent heartbreak. But when a sensual and powerful cowboy, Shep Blackshaw enters her life, Emma begins to want things she shouldn’t.
Shep knows sex shouldn’t be on his mind. He’s got a world of responsibility on his shoulders. He’s attempting to save his late father’s cattle ranch, Blackshaw Cattle Company, from foreclosure. But Emma’s heated reactions to his touch make ignoring her impossible. She’s the perfect distraction to make him forget that his father’s company is a sinking ship.
While their nights only heat up, soon emotions become tangled into the mix. Shep’s not only giving Emma the hottest nights of her life, he’s also healing her heart. With every encounter, she forgets her heartbreak. With every naughty adventure, she stops mourning the life she left behind. And with every dirty word whispered from Shep’s mouth, she stops thinking of all the reasons why she shouldn’t fall for him. But when the past comes to claim Emma, she’ll need to choose between the life she thought she wanted and the life she’s grown to love with Shep. How will she say no to forever with a dirty-talking cowboy.

Dirty-Talking Cowboy is the first book of this series & sets the scene for the others. Emma is an ex-marketing executive that has inherited her Grandmother’s farm. While she is trying to decide what to do, she has a part time job at the local bar. Shep is a hot Alpha cowboy & is interested in Emma. He’s determined she’ll be his. She is hung up on her former boss who “done her wrong”. Can Shep make her forget her ex-boss?
Thanks to the descriptive prose, arrogance & sexiness of Shep, the development of the supporting characters & the main premise, this story was enjoyable. The attraction between Shep & Emma leapt off the page & the sexual scenes were well written & exquisitely descriptive. The only jarring note was Emma’s hang up on her ex-boss. It was needed at the beginning of the story but seemed excessive. Overall, this was a very good story.
I have got to say I love a cowboy romance. Shep and Emma are such a hot pair. I not only enjoyed the storyline but I liked the bit of humor thrown in now and again. Especially when Emma under the influence of medication said things she might not otherwise say. This couple was very well mached and they seemed to be good for one another. I like how Shep was able to build trust in Emma by opening up to her and listening to what she had to say. All the characters in this book were great. Emma was able to realize that what her grandmother left her was worth sticking around for and that she loved River Rock and could make a great life for herself. I am glad she was able to see the ex that hurt her was not what she needed and sent him away when he came around. Shep was such a warm and caring man. Always trying to make sure his family was taken care of. He is definitely an alpha man who knows what he wants and makes sure that Emma knows that. I love how Shep and his brothers Chase and Nash along with the help of Emma are able to keep their father’s legacy alive. Great HEA. I can wait to read what is in store for Chase and Nash and the ladies they have their eyes on!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Wow! What a read. I love me some dirty talking cowboys… Love this story about healing the broken parts and learning to trust again. Mix that with some hot chemistry and some kinky times makes for a great book. Can’t wait to read the next one in this series.
Characters I connected with and a story with plenty of heat
Book 1 of the new Kinky Spurs series, having read the author’s previous Club Sin series, I was expecting a story with great characters and plenty of heat, and boy did she deliver! Emma’s grief at the death of her Grams resonated deeply with me as I was extremely close to my own grandmother. Plus, I’ve started over a time or two in my life, so I just really felt a strong connection to her. I loved Shep, too. He was a perfect alpha without being overbearing: controlling, protective, caring and determined to give Emma the space she needed to get over her ex and learn to trust again without giving up on her.
Loved the set up here as well. With Shep dealing with his grief in the wake of his father’s death, as well as all the additional (and unwanted) responsibility for dealing with his family’s large cattle business and his father’s estate, there were parallels to Emma’s situation, which gave them a lot in common. The subplot with Bentley the horse made for a perfect way to drive the story forward and help Emma heal and grow at the same time. Shep’s brothers were both interesting characters as well, and I can’t wait to get their stories. In fact, there wasn’t a thing about this story I didn’t love.
Wonderful characters I connected with and a story with plenty of heat and some mild kink helped make for a great read for me, and my favorite book by this author to-date. 5+ stars

Stacey Kennedy is one of my automatic buy authors, so I was excited when I heard about Kinky Spurs. I thought Emma and Shep’s book was a good start to the new series.
Poor Emma was dealt several blows at once and decided to stay at her Grams house in River Rock, Colorado until she was ready to head back to New York City. She takes a part time job at the town bar Kinky Spurs and that is where she first lays eyes on the tall, broad, well-built cowboy. She wants nothing to do with a man right now, especially after what her jerk of an ex just put her through, so why does she feel so drawn to this cowboy.
Shep is still feeling of the loss of this father and trying to save his fathers company, so he heads to Kinky Spurs. He doesn’t know why Emma responds to his touch the way she does, but thinks that she is just the distraction that he needs. What starts out as sex only, quickly turns to more when they started sharing more time together getting to know each other.
I liked Emma and Shep’s story and the beginning of this new series, but I can’t wait to get the 2nd book in this series. It will be Chase and Harper’s story and I can’t wait to get my hands on Chase.
Sexy cowboy with a great big heart. That’s Shep in a nutshell and it’s impossible not to fall a little in love with him. This first Kinky Spurs novel introduces the characters of River Rock, Colorado and they are certainly an entertaining bunch.
Shep and Emma’s romance is steamy enough to melt the paint off the walls even when they’re both determined that they’re not in a relationship. Both have been burned by love before, so neither wants anything serious. Of course, with their chemistry, serious is certainly bound to happen. This pair does see some drama by way of meddlers and an ex, but the biggest problem for Shep is the need to save the family business. Emma has some important choices to make too, but overall, the angst level is pretty low.
The only drawback for me was that almost every intimate scene was pages long and there were a number of them, which became repetitive after a while. That aside, the story and likable characters did hold my interest and I will be checking out whatever comes next for this series.
Spectacular start to a sexy smart new series!
Stacey Kennedy has shown me time and time again what a wonderfully talented author she is. Her plots are well thought out and move seamlessly, her characters are strong confident men and woman whose realistic dialogue and sexual chemistry burns up the page. Dirty Talking Cowboy the first in the Kinky Spurs series is all this and more. Emma is a woman we’d all like to be cause frankly she has Shep. He is seriously one of the best heroes I’ve come across in a long long time. Sexy, smart, loyal, tender, all that and more. Seriously you need Shep in your life, even if it’s just for the time it takes to see him and Emma fall in love.
I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series “Sweet-Talking” to see if brother Chase takes after his big brother.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review**
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is the first book in the Kinky Spurs series and is Emma Monroe and Shep Blackshaw’s story. I rate this book at 4.5 stars!! This was a fantastic start to this new series. I really enjoyed the storyline, the characters, and the secondary characters and had a hard time putting this book down. This is a fast, fun, read with just the right amount of hot/steaminess.
Emma Monroe has been living her dream in New York City. She has a job she loves, is close with her family and has a great relationship, only problem he’s the CEO of the company she works for and it has to remain on the down-low. When Emma comes to tell Jake about the death of her grandmother, she overhears a conversation that makes her leave New York City and head to River Rock Colorado to clear her head and figure out what to do with her grandmothers beloved rescue farm.
Shep Blackshaw is successful, runs a successful wilderness survival company and exactly where he wants to be in life, then tragedy strikes and things change for him, he just won’t know how much at the time (sorry not leaving any spoilers). When Shep is at Kinky Spurs he see’s Emma and he wants her, but she shoots him down. Then Shep is out riding his horse and see’s her being dragged by a horse and rescues her and steps in to be her knight in shining armor.
The first book really does a job job of laying out the storyline for the series. I really enjoyed Emma and Shep together, loved their chemistry. If you like hot and steamy this book is for you. Shep is the strong, alpha male, but not overboard, but caring and Emma is emotional, feminine and somewhat strong. The secondary characters in the book were great and I can’t wait for their stories. Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
From the title of this one right through the prologue, this book was set up to give a fun-filled, steamy read – and although this one packed tons of heat and some kink, it also had lots of sweet and a real nice romance to go along with all those sexy times and left me smiling at the end.
I just loved Shep and, after reading this one, the title fit him perfectly! But there was also a whole lot more to him. He definitely knows what he wants and loves to be in control, but what struck me most about him was his outlook on things, especially when it came to his past serious relationship that ended:
“Sara is who she is. I can’t control her behavior. But I can control not allowing that drama into my life.”
Although I did like Emma, there were times when she did get a tad bit annoying when dealing with her recent break-up. She’s been totally burned by her ex, who also happened to be her boss, so I get her taking time away to figure out what she is going to do with her life now that her career has been impacted – but boy I wanted her to have a bit more anger at Jake. With her grandmother passing away and leaving her the ranch, she has the perfect opportunity to regroup and figure out a plan – and then she starts rethinking everything once she realizes that Shep may be just more than a no-strings attached fling.
The writing flowed smoothly and, even though the romance developed quickly, nothing seemed rushed or forced. This was a great start to this new series and I am definitely intrigued by the other characters that were introduced that will be featured in the next installments of this series. I just loved the whole premise of the Kinky Spurs bar and look forward to more in this series.
4 sizzling stars! And that’s just what Shep and Emma do, sizzle. Their chemistry is crazy and they sure as heck steamed up my Kindle. This is a really great start to this new series.
There is so much more to this book than hot sexy scenes. It is a sweet and heartfelt story about a girl who has had her heart broken and the man who wants nothing more than to fix it.
This was such a fun and sexy read! Emma has left New York City and come to her Gram’s farm heartbroken and betrayed but she is determined to figure out how to manage to take care of the animals her Gram took in when no one else would. When one of those animals takes off running with a rope attached to her wrist and dragging her it is a miracle when Shep discovers her. An ambulance ride and hospital stay and morphine-fueled rambling leads to some interesting discoveries. The roping games at the bar the previous night paired the two and lead to some sexy gasps and dreams and evidently it was mutual and the morphine loosened lips. With all this out in the open, it only lead to moving these two in the direction they really wanted to go. Watching them come together was special but watching the entire family interact was something. Great world building and I am definitely looking forward to further in this series and seeing where this is going to go. I definitely recommend this one!
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is a good steamy read. Emma is having a rough patch in life so she leave New York City and she’s decided to stay at her Grams ranch in Colorado. She meet s Shep at
Kinky Spurs where she is working part time. Shep is a sexy hot cowboy. Shep is a dirty talking take control kind of guy. Both have been burned in the past and neither is looking for a serious relationship. Their chemistry is off the charts and they are perfect together.
Dirty talking cowboy is one of those books that you read just for the pure joy of reading.
Take a “damsal in distress” add in an alpha, hero cowboy mix in super steamy sexy times and the result is a story that has you rooting for our couple and not wanting to put their story down.
Emma and Shep are both great characters that i genuinely liked. Shep was a solid and strong feature in the story and exactly what tumbled Emma needed to find her footing.
Add in a great secondary cast and just a smidge of intrigue and you have a great series starter. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what happens to Chase in the next book.
I may have a thing for cowboy romances now. Stacey Kennedy’s new Kinky Spurs series focuses on the Blackshaw brothers. Sexy, swoony, and definitely romance hero material; these three cowboys are here to rope you into their hearts!
Emma has returned to her summer home of her grandmother who’s recently passed. The areas of land and animals couldn’t have come at a better time when Emma needs an escape to heal from heartbreak. She’s left her job and lost the man she thought loved her all in the same day. Licking her wounds in River Rock seems the perfect distraction from the mess of her life. The unplanned distraction? The mysterious cowboy who comes in to the bar, Kinky Spurs, and always locks eyes with her. But Kinky Spurs isn’t just in name; it’s claim to fame is it’s sexy cowboys that come in to “rope” themselves a woman. With a last minute change, Emma is on stage with her mysterious cowboy, Shep Blackshaw. Piercing eyes, smoking body, and a killer smile….Emma is doomed.
After their family loses their father, Shep and his brothers have to make a decision on their families business. A distraction is just what Shep needs from his new responsibilities and nothing is more eye catching than the sexy new bartender at Kinky Spurs. Shep is determined to find out more about her after their steamy on stage encounter with a rope and some intimate eye-locking. When one of Emma’s new horses drags her on a wild chase, Shep is there to save the day and keep her close. But what seemed to be a fun fling for the womanizing cowboy is quickly turning in to a true romance neither planned for.
Their own perceived futures are what get in they way for Emma and Shep. When a piece of Emma’s past comes back to threaten what these two have built, their quiet content country romance is all but shattered. Shep is amazingly charming; I loved his mix of country boy next door and bad boy in the sheets. Emma was a headstrong heroine but I liked her vulnerabilities in trusting her own instincts; it made her incredibly relatable. This is a quick and emotion filled romance for any fan; cowboy, small town, triangle, all of the above. I can’t wait to read more of our Blackshaw brothers based on the teases of the two younger brothers love interests!
This Kinky Spurs series is going to definitely be kinky, if book one is anything to go on! The love scenes were definitely hot. In fact, I have steered away from cowboy romances for awhile, but Stacey Kennedy has roped me back in. Cowboys are back on my radar! Having three sexy brothers is a good start.
Shep is the man with the plan, he’s the guy left in charge of what to do with their dad’s business. No pressure hahaha. He is sexy and sweet, and good with rope!
Emma is hiding away at her grandma’s place, far from the big city she’s used to. She’s in a bit of crisis identity, not sure what to do next, and skittish like a hurt animal. I really liked watching her start to trust and become stronger again.
I definitely plan to read the others in the series, and there were hints in this book as to who they would be.
I have enjoyed many books by Stacey Kennedy and this one is no different, Dirty-Talking Cowboy had me hooked from the first page to the very last.
Emma and Shep are both going through not only a deep loss but a life changing event and loosing themselves in one another seems to be just what the doctor ordered to heal their hearts.
Emma’s grandmother just passed away and left her the farm that she had to used to help rescue animals and unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, it came at the perfect time because Emma needed to get out of New York for a while and figure out what her next steps would be after leaving her high profile marketing position. Shep’s father passed away suddenly of a heart attack and it left him and his two brothers, Chase and Nash, with a business none of them wanted but they needed to figure out how to make it work not only for their mother but also for all of the employees the company had.
Shep and Emma had great chemistry together. I not only liked the main characters of this book but I also loved the secondary characters, I am really looking forward to seeing both Chase and Nash getting their HEAs. If you enjoy a good story line with a dirty-talking cowboy then this book is for you. Happy Reading!
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**
***I received an ebook copy from the author at no cost***
Emma and Shep are quite the pair. There’s an undeniable attraction between them from the moment they first encounter one another, one that doesn’t taper over the course of the story.
Emma is in an accident and Shep comes to her rescue. He takes care of her and spends time with her, making sure that she’s on the mend. His intentions are clear from day one, but Emma has reservations about getting in a relationship, because she had her heart broken before and she doesn’t want to risk that happening again.
This story is sweet, funny, and insanely sexy. Shep has a mouth on him like no other (Kennedy named this book Dirty-Talking Cowboy for a reason!!). He’s not afraid to tell Emma what he wants, from her and to do to her. I loved that about him.
I liked how each of these characters changed over the course of the story. And I really loved Emma’s lack of a filter. She says what’s on her mind and sometimes, it’s totally lewd and hilarious, and I was laughing out loud during a lot of parts in this story. I also loved that Shep was there for Emma in every way, not just in the bedroom.
If you’re looking for a kinky, sweet, and fun story with a hot-as-a-biscuit cowboy, this is the book for you!
Four stars to this novel!
This was a great combination of super sweet and high octane heat. Heck of a story! I’ve got a new appreciation for sexy cowboys.
Bring on Shep, the dirty talking cowboy. Emma and Shep have a combustible connection while both being very strong-willed and confident in their professional lives. They are both dealing with loss, Emma’s grandmother and Shep’s father. Emma ends up I River Rock after inheriting her grandmother’s farm. This comes at a perfect time when her perfectly crafted NYC life is shattered, she returns to the one place where she found solace, love and freedom to heal. The last thing she wants is to hook-up with a man but an abused horse puts her directly in Shep’s path. Shep is a fixer but the one thing he hasn’t fixed is his heart. Seeing Emma at Kinky Spurs one night, well, maybe his heart is working. The sexual chemistry is off-the-charts and delicious to devour. Add in the Blackstone Brothers, Chase and Nate, for the brotherly ribbing and more sexy cowboys to enjoy. The big challenge, will Emma find a new life to stay in River Rock or will NYC call her back. Dive in for every sexy, sultry moment to find out. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Dirty-Talking Cowboy by Stacey Kennedy is book One in the Kinky Spurs series. This is the story of Emma Monroe and Shep Blackshaw.
Emma has come to River Rock, Colorado to settle things after her Grandmother’s death but she also has things she need to work through of what happen to her in NY and what is next for her. While doing that she has taken a job working at the Kinky Spurs which is where she meets Shep.
Shep to is working on things trying too, by trying to save the family business, Blackshaw Cattle Company. Shep doesn’t have time for anything else but they can’t seem to fight their attraction. They give into their attraction but is soon there headed to something much stronger.
Enjoyed their story and can’t wait for more book in this series!
