Very smexy read that goes from cold to hawt in the blink of an eye! DTC is all about Emma Monroe and Shep Blackshaw but there are family and town meddlers galore. Pay attention to Emma’s behavior around the animals on her grandmother’s farm as it will really give you insight into her character. Now that she is a “city” girl, she sometimes forgets how early farm life can be – as the animals sometimes remind her. Shep steps in to help her get into a groove with the farm and he starts to forget his own problems. They make a great couple, after learning to trust in themselves and each other, and did I mention the book is hawt??? Some intensity to the story as well that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Good read for an afternoon. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Shep Blackshaw….the star of this story! I would give him 5 stars if I could!
Emma…not so much. While Shep continually shows Emma how much she means to him, Emma is so hung up on her ex…I’ve gotta hand it to Shep, I would have backed away from her.
Had the story not revolved around Emma’s continued infatuation with her ex to the extent it did, this would have been an absolute 5 stars. The points the author was trying to make in Emma’s doubts, insecurities, etc. could have been made in a different manner…
BUT, having said that, Shep is a book boyfriend you will NOT want to pass up! And, I can’t wait to read the other Blackshaw brothers’ stories!
3.5 Stars
This book started out so well for me. I thought we were going to get some kind of Coyote Ugly-esque novel due to the fact that it all started in a bar. Team that with a hot cowboy and I thought damn this is gonna be good especially because of what was described in the synopsis.
What started off so well quickly cooled down quite quickly. There simply just wasn’t enough going on for my taste. A Hot Cowboy can only carry a book so much for me and whilst the sex scenes were sizzling, I just didn’t feel enough chemistry between Shep and Emma.
Shep was definitely hot, there’s no denying that, but I found his character to be a bit too Jekyll and Hyde for me. His persona by day was sweet and caring, yet between the sheets he became a different person entirely. There was no transition between the two personalities and the overly alpha maleness with a dirty mouth seemed to come out of nowhere. Yes I’m aware that the title of the book suggests exactly this, but I wanted more of the Dirty Talking Cowboy and for it to blend better with the Sweet Talking Cowboy. I simply needed more believability from his character.
I know for a fact that the lack of action for me would not be the case for many readers. The book was actually really well written on the whole and as I mentioned, the sex scenes were pretty hot, so I am confident that most of the issues I had with this book were my own and for anyone who loves a traditional hot cowboy story then I have no doubt you will love this Dirty Talking Cowboy.
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is the first book in the sexy and exciting new series, Kinky Spurs. Told from dual points of view, Dirty-Talking Cowboy follows the story of Shep and Emma. Recovering from a recent heartbreak and loss of a beloved family member, Emma finds herself back in Colorado. She’s got enough on her plate with her waitressing job and the farm that she’s inherited. The last thing she needs is another man in her life. But, when she meets Shep, he is just the man to push all of her boundaries and break all of her rules…Shep’s got enough going on in his life, that the last thing he should be thinking about is adding a woman to the mix. However, the moment Shep sets his eyes on Emma, he knows he’ll never be able to walk away. There’s just something about this woman that calls to his every instinct. He has to have her. Will Shep make Emma take a chance on love and forget her broken heart? There’s only one way to find out…
Overall, I really liked this book. I fell in love with Shep and Emma instantly. I loved their chemistry and couldn’t get enough of Shep’s dirty mouth. I mean, this guy could melt your clothes right off by just using words. He was intense and sexy as can be. He promises Emma naughty adventures and passion like she’s never experienced. How is a woman to say no to that? She can’t. Shep is impossible for Emma to ignore. These two burn up the pages like none another and have you flipping quickly through the pages to see how their story would play out. Not only does Shep and Emma have amazing sexual chemistry, but their banter is pretty great too. Shep is determined and caring and hard working. He isn’t afraid to go after what he wants and doesn’t take no for an answer. He brings Emma back to life and shows her just how good love can be and why it’s worth taking a chance on..
I think Dirty-Talking Cowboy is a great start to this series. It certainly checked off all my boxes and had me glued to the pages. I can’t wait to see where this story is going to go next!
**I received an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**
Dirty-Talking Cowboy was my first Stacey Kennedy read, but it certainly won’t be my last. This was a great start to the new Kinky Spurs series.
Emma Monroe is dealing with heartbreak from every direction. Her grandmother has passed away and the man she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with broke her heart. When Emma learns that her grandmother left her house and the animals on the farm to her, she goes there feel close to her grandmother again, to get away from things in New York and to figure out where her life goes next.
Shep Blackshaw not only has his own business to run, but he finds himself trying to save the business that his father started so many years ago from foreclosure. While he doesn’t want to give up on the dreams that both he and his brothers, Chase and Nash, have, he also doesn’t want to lose his father’s business either.
While out one night at Kinky Spurs, Shep meets Emma and they are immediately drawn to one another. They decide to keep their relationship physical, but will they be able to keep emotions out of it? And if they don’t, will Emma eventually feel pulled back to her previous life in New York?
This was a fun read with really likable characters. I enjoyed the part that the animals played in the story as well. I’m very intrigued to see what happens with Nash and Chase as this series progresses as well!
After her grandmother passes Emma Monroe finds herself returning to a place that holds so many dear memories for her, and also gives her the perfect place to escape from her disastrous love life and mend her broken heart. For the last year she has given herself to a man that she thought loved her just as much as she did him, but once their forbidden office affair was discovered, he broke her heart by choosing his job over her. Now she finds herself slinging drinks at local bar, tending to her grandmothers animals on the farm, and trying her hand a re-inventing herself in a new town. What she doesn’t expect or want to find is a new man, but one look at Shep Blackshaw and her heart starts to flip flop and her unmentionables start to melt, he is everything a woman swoons over, and everything her head tells her to avoid! But staying away from the determined and sexy cowboy is easier thought than done!!
The moment Shep Blackshaw’s eyes land on the sexy new bartender at Kinky Spurs he can’t help but want to take her home, she is gorgeous, sassy, and puts a stirring in his belly that hasn’t been there in a long damn time! He learned a long time ago that love isn’t easy, and he’s paid dearly for it, but she doesn’t seem to be looking for love, so she might just be a safe bet for his wounded heart. Unfortunately for him though the moment their friendly game of fun between the sheets begins, he starts to realize that there’s more than just a little fun there, and once he’s had a taste of it, he doesn’t want to let it go!
Within the pages of Dirty Talking Cowboy lies a kinky little literary adventure that is destined to squeeze your heart, weaken your knees and leave you thoroughly satisfied. In this newest series from Ms. Kennedy you will meet the Blackshaw brothers, and I must warn you these cowboys are packing some serious sex appeal, and come equipped with good hearts, and the expertise to leave the ladies highly satisfied in the bedroom and out! In this first installment you’ll meet Shep, and all I can say is be ready to have your heart and unmentionables melted, he is a determined man that will stop at nothing to keep his lady happy and in his bed permanently. I thoroughly enjoyed every single second of this story, it was a well rounded tale with the perfect amounts of everything a good romance should have, plus a few juicy tidbits that left me excited for the next installment!! I highly recommend you meet these cowboys and their sassy heroines, they will treat you to a good time!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Loved this book!!! Not only was there a dirty-talking cowboy in here, but there was also plenty of heart and humor that made me never want to put this down.
Don’t let the title fool you.
There’s much more to this story.
Emma is a big city gal who heads to Colorado after she was willed her grandmother’s farm. Plus she needed to escape the heartbreak and humiliation her ex caused. While she was working at Kinky Spurs, she meets (and can’t keep her eyes off) a sexy AF cowboy with beautiful eyes and a killer smile.
The pull between her & Shep Blackshaw (even his name is sexy) was strong, their chemistry sizzled. My kindle was ON FIRE. That scene where they were up on the stage for the roping contest…frickin’ HOT.
Of course, neither one was looking for a relationship, but they couldn’t help where their desires led them. There was no resisting when the banter was fun and their passion was powerful.
Watching the big city girl grow and learn things about herself was heartwarming and made me smile. Seeing her realize what she wanted, what she needed, what was right in front of her was a beautiful thing. Was she a little too hung up on her ex? Yes. But it both satisfied and relieved me when she finally snapped out of it and figured out where her heart was and where her home needed to be.
This story warmed my heart, made me smile, and gave me some delicious tingles.
This was my first read from Stacey Kennedy and I can’t wait to read more!
Kinky Spurs Book One.
Emma Monroe has lost everything, but maybe her grandmother’s passing will leave her with something to make a new start. Moving to River Rock, Colorado is a huge leap for Emma. Shep Blackshaw doesn’t know what to make of the girl who turned him down multiple times, only to wind up directly in his path. Now that Emma is recovering from her injuries, Shep is determined to get to know her and possibly more.
If you’re looking for a cowboy to take you away, this is the book for you.
Not the deepest literature. Few funny typos. Light reading. Finished book.
Really enjoyed this book. Enough so, that I purchased the rest of the books in the series. Highly recommend
Slow, plodding plot and character development are frequently interrupted by ham-handed erotica. She is whiny and he is domineering. Ugh. I did like Bentley, the horse.
This just didn’t do it for me, I didn’t think there was enough plot to hold the sex together and the sex wasn’t that exciting either.
The book was easy to read. Not a lot of drama and for the most part fairly predicable.
I enjoyed the characters in this book very much.
Fantastic book, can’t wait to read the balance of the series!
Oh my goodness. Shep is really competing for one of my favorite book heroes. He is so patient with Emma and Bentley, the horse even though he had his own grief and problems. What a great hero. I’m not sure how I feel about Emma. Sometimes I feel that she a little trashy but sometimes I feel that she’s just emotionally lost. I don’t know why she was upset with Jake. She knew the score from the get go even signing a NDA yet she continued the relationship in secret any ways. That should have been her clue that he wasn’t all in with her so when he turned on her why get upset. Then he comes back and she doesn’t immediately show some emotions and tell him to get the hell out. Oh she got on my nerves with her spineless behavior with Jake. Dirty little secret relationships never end well. If I had a drawback to the story it would be the kinky sex. I’m not a fan of physical pain as a form of pleasure but to each his/her own. I’m not fond of the group skinny dipping either. I look forward to reading about Chase and Bash. Until next time y’all happy reading.
Who doesn’t fancy a sexy, cowboy? I wish the hero was a horse so I could ride him. I absolutely loved this erotic story. Great job
My rating: 4-stars.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Really well-written. Just a fantastic story.
Emma and Shep were amazing characters. Their chemistry was hot and the tension was so sexy.
Shep has two younger brothers that we meet briefly in the book. Chase and Nash. Honestly, I’m already smitten with Nash. I can’t wait to read his book.
I love just about everything about the book. So why only 4-stars? So many typos. I normally overlook them and don’t deduct stars but the publisher is a big-name publishing house so I expect typos to be fixed by the editors. The ebook file on Amazon really needs to be re-edited and re-uploaded.
Holy Buckets does Mrs. Kennedy knows how to write strong, dominant dirty talking cowboys.
Shep is interested in Emma the first time he sees her at Kinky Spurs, the local bar and he isn’t afraid to go after what he wants. Emma is recently out of a really bad relationship and at first she sees some similarities between her ex and Shep that makes her step back.
An accident that could have been horrible brings these two together and Shep being the kind of man he is, he feels responsible for Emma and wants to help her.
Watching these two dance around each other and finally give in was amazing to read. I loved just how strong and sure Shep was of his feeling for Emma. It was refreshing to read a man who knows exactly what he wants and goes after it.
I would highly recommend this book!
4 1/2 Star Review…..
A new erotic romance series, with Cowboys, and written by Stacey Kennedy……Hell yeah, all my prayers have just been answered! And yes, if you know Ms Kennedy’s work, this is one seriously HOT book! When I saw this latest title on NetGalley and the title and author, I was so on board. Cowboys have recently become one of my favourite genres; tall, broad, brooding, loyal, and sexy as all get out, there’s simply nothing not to love.
So what do you get? Well Ms Kennedy’s brand new series introduces readers to the three Blackshaw brothers; Shep, Chase and Nash, after the loss of their father. All are sexy as hell, with very different personalities and each have their own unique background story; but this book belongs to Shep (the eldest son). Shep is every romantic’s dream; a man totally focused on his woman, loyal and devoted to a fault, and determined to convince one wary female that second chances are worth taking a risk on.
This book has a great plot, well-developed characters, emotional baggage, family drama, and two people from polar opposite backgrounds, who must learn to trust again to bury their demons, before they can move forward with life. There’s conflict, angst, mixed feelings and heartache, but when the dust settles, true love just might prevail.
I absolutely loved this story and can’t wait for the coming stories about Chase and Nash. Thank you NetGalley for approving my request to read this advanced copy.
