When the past meets the present… he’s dead, but J.J. knows that’s just another one of his lies, and it’s only a matter of time before she starts to look like his accomplice.
It’s time to bring Malachi Graves down once and for all.
Love this series!!
Welcome to a small town King George Court, Virginia….the people are familiar and I do reccomend reading the very first one to get a feel for the town and people. The nice thing is the characters age and change over time just like we do and you find yourself rooting for certain characters and their relationships.
JJ Graves is the coroner and prefers the dead to most of the living, understandable with her parents disappearances, secrets, conspiracies and the reappearance of her father, Malachai. She has a staff now at the mortuary that aid her in normal deaths and the homicides that have increased in this small area.
Then there is Jack, great looking, ex FBI, now the sheriff and finally the husband of JJ.
Jack is the keeper of JJ’s secrets about her parents. He is smart, can cook, built a beautiful house near a lake in the woods and can take you out if needed. Together he and his wife make a great crime solving team.
Carver, FBI agent, is in the hospital after an attack from Malachi and you meet his wife, Michelle. Even in the tense moments, she breathes humor in the situation with her injured husband and comes across as so darn real and likeable. Enter, her nephew, Doug, at age 15 his computer skills have made him unpopular at the FBI and the Pentagon!
Malachai will easily kill his daughter and anyone near her to get his hands on dime flash drives. Add deaths by poisoned pills scaring the community to add to the stress for the cops. Clues are there, solid police work, computer skills, great cops and tension that just keeps building! And a big twist near the end…..I was so down when it ended as I love the series and will have to wait for the next one..these never disappoint. Be nice to yourself and read in order to see the town and characters grow. 5 stars. I feel the need to reread all the books again.

This a a taught, well-written, suspenseful book that ties up a story arc revolving around Jaye’s father that has gone on long enough.
Jaye and Jack are trying to settle into married life but with her father having popped up again during their last case it’s causing lots of tension. Jack’s good friend is critically injured and in the hospital, there’s another homicide to investigate and Malachi keeps lobbing grenades into their lives.
The tense scene between Jack and Jaye was so well written that I totally absorbed it and internalized it. My husband came home from golf league and I was super annoyed at him for absolutely no reason! As I tried to think about what he had done to tick me off I realized I was just pissed at Jack from the confrontation scene in the book and it translated as “husbands are jerks.” That’s some good writing right there!
The wrap up of the story arc here still leaves Jaye with some questions but it appears that now she and Jack can finally start their life together without her past hanging over their heads. I look forward to seeing where we go from here.

I am puzzled why the summary of this installment in the series eludes to JJ’s long-thought dead father was the man responsible for the unusual murders that took place relatively close together in King George County, Virginia, when it’s pretty clear the murders are unrelated to the lawless and terribly dangerous Malachi Graves. Regardless, still a great read. Two people have died from ingesting poison capsules, and the hunt is on to find out how the poison got into normally safe organic aspirin. While investigating this, Malachi Graves corners his daughter, JJ, several times even though she is supposed to be heavily guarded. JJ came off as careless in this book, letting herself be alone to begin with. The take down of the famous Malachi Graves has a great build up, and then BAM it’s over. The person responsible for killing Malachi is a wonderful surprise.

Outstanding!!! Book 6 is an incredible addition to the series. Filled with lots of intense and edge of your seat moments. Without giving away spoilers, this book has answered so many questions in regards to JJ’s family. JJ continues to grow strong with each new book. Absolutely loved this series and I’m looking forward to the next book. Liliana I hope you keep this series coming, because I’ll be waiting patiently for each new book.

A good book. The J.J. Graves stories are always a good mystery. I only wish there was more to the stories. I wish the author would add another 100 pages to the story. The books are short.
