Dexter Truitt ruined my life. His impossibly improbable act set off a chain of events I couldn’t make up if I tried, each one stealing a little more from me. My relationship. My business. My reputation. But even bad times have to come to an end. I thought that was the case when Valerie slid onto the bar stool next to mine and asked me to buy her a drink. She was gorgeous. Driven. Smart. And …
She was gorgeous. Driven. Smart.
And didn’t know who in the hell I was.
Didn’t know why every other woman in town avoided me like the plague.
Valerie was a ray of light when I needed it most, and I couldn’t get enough of her. Being with her made me think I could have it all again.
Showed me I could have more.
All I had to do was reach out and take it.
Except all good things must come to an end too.
And our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Oh, how I love this book. Have you ever wondered if the person you were impersonating was an actual real person? Well, that’s what happened to Jay Reed.
Jay Reed has had his life turned upside down in 6 months. Once being able to pick up any girl he wanted, he now gets glares and not so lovely words thrown his way. That all changes the night Valerie Berdard approaches him at a bar.
“She’s tiny. Delicate. The kind of woman a man wants to protect.”
Valerie Berdard may have come to New York to get a VISA to prove to her dad that she could do this on her own, but she may have bitten off more than she can chew. That is until she finds Jay Reed and decides to convince him to help her get her VISA.
“I’ve wanted Jay from the very beginning. Even when I knew I shouldn’t. Even when I tried not to.”
Things may not look as they seem. Valerie begins to realize Jay Reed is not the Dirty Liar people claim he is. Jay Reed is a man who is starting to make her know that she can do things on her own and make her own decisions. Will Valerie possibly lose Jay when he finds out what she initially planned with him, or will he help her get her VISA?
“It’s not red, Val. I think you underestimate my knowledge of the pedicure process.” Jay
“The pedicure process?” Val”
“Those polishes don’t have names like red or pink. They have names like A Little Guilt Under the Kilt and Bubble Bath.” Jay
There are so many things I love about this book. I love the banter between Jay and Valerie. They compliment each other well, and it’s one of the many reasons I love Janice’s writing. I would want to be besties with Valerie, especially when she wasn’t comfortable standing up for herself and being able to make her own decisions. To see where she came from and watch her gain the confidence to spread her wings were beautiful. To read about Jay sounding so down in the dump and wanting to take the easy way out to the end of realizing that everything he went through would wind up with finding his true love was perfect! There were many people I didn’t like at the beginning of this book, but you can’t always judge someone by what you hear. Sometimes you must get to know them for yourself to form your own opinion of them. In the end, I only didn’t like two people.
I highly recommend this book and any book by Janice Whiteaker.
Ahhhh what a fantastic take on Mr. Moneybags. This is a hilarious addition to the Cocky Hero Club. It really is one of my favorites. Great characters, great writing and just a whole lot of fun. What more could you really want?

I am enjoying these stories way too much. I have discovered another new author with this collection. Jay is absolutely swoony and he is going through a tough time. In comes in Val and things may be looking up. But not everything is at seems and things may go south before they go up again. Their chemistry is amazing and the banter and their own dialogue was funny and had me smiling the whole time.
Jay and Valerie a story that will have you as hooked as I was. Reputation have made him a target and Valeria is a refreshing new person in town that will heal his soul and heart. Jay Reid meets his other half after having the worst 6 months of his life. If you have read Mister Moneybags then you will know why he suffered, but this story shows how becomes stronger with the help and for Valerie. Together they are stronger and more than anything anyone can use or say. Another great story that captured my heart!
We first met Jay in Mister Moneybags, and I couldn’t wait to get a story on him! And Janice did not disappoint in her telling of this character.
When Jay meets Val, sparks fly! The banter between these two will have you smiling and laughing, and waiting for their romance to sizzle, and trust me, it’s sizzling HOT! Their relationship was written out beautifully, with almost a realistic feel to it.
When Val is on a mission to prove that she has what it takes to be an adult her family can be proud of, Jay swoops in and proves to Val that the right man can be by her side while she explores what type of woman she’s meant to be.
This was a great addition to the Cocky World Series, and I can’t wait to read more from the author!
This is a great addition to the Cocky Hero Club. If you’ve read Mr. Moneybags, you’ve met Jay Reid.
Jay is down on his luck in the romance department. He can’t seem to catch a break thanks to an ex who has smeared his name. Valerie hasn’t been lucky in love either and she is trying to get away from her controlling father. Valerie sets her sights on Jay to help her with her plan, but even the best-laid plans don’t always work out the way you think they will. They’ll both discover that there is more to each of them than meets the eye.
There is witty banter and the characters have great chemistry. It was nice to see the relationship evolve into something unexpected, real, and beautiful. It was a funny and sweet read. I recommoned reading it. This does end in a HEA.

I loved meeting the real Jay Reed after the effects of what happens when one uses your name. If you’ve read Mr. Moneybags you know that whole story and if not you learn all about what happened to Jay.
I loved Valerie, she was a force to be reckoned with and the way Jay nurtured her so she could be more and more fierce was so great. Jay has a really bad 6 months before he met Valerie and she decided she could fix his life.
And you can’t help but fall for the guy who tries to do the right thing and just wants to take care of Valerie.
I loved this book so much. Jay and Valerie’s story was so good and I will be looking up this authors backlog to read more of her books.
