In the latest thriller from New York Times bestselling author Liliana Hart, Coroner J.J. Graves and Jack Lawson investigate the murder of a victim who got exactly what he deserved. But justice is blind, and they have to put their personal feelings aside to hunt a ruthless killer.
I love this whole series, and have already pre-ordered the next book!
In this first book back in Bloody Mary after the death of Jaye’s father, Jack and Jaye have a gruesome killing of an awful person to deal with while contending with the upcoming election.
The case is interesting with an unusual conclusion. But the kicker to this book is in the last few pages after the case concludes.
While it certainly sets up a cliff hanger that makes me anxious to see what’s next it just is so far afield from everything we know about the MCs and their relationship and feelings for each other. And those things are very much reinforced in this book. Then we get an ending that goes completely against it. It is so antithetical to the character that I’m almost ready to kiss off the series. The next book better have one hell of a plan or I’m out. I despise authors going so far afield from the character development they’ve spent years building for the sake of drama.
Not sure if I am going to want to continue onto installment no. 9. The conclusion of this installment had me instantly upset and angry! Seriously, what is wrong with Jack at that point???? J.J. and Jack have successfully solved the murder of a defense attorney not liked by many people. Someone has taken this dislike to the ultimate ending. I enjoyed this story, and having Carver back in the picture was great. Carver’s nephew, Doug, is such a hoot! I’m going to risk installment no. 9, but I may quit reading it if things go sour.
I’ve read this whole series and while I have enjoyed each book, Dirty Devil left something to be desired. Not bad, just not THAT good.
Holy moly I did not see that ending coming and I think it is just what this series needed. I love the JJ Graves series and was glued, yet again, to this book from the get go. The storyline was captivating and full of mystery. I love trying to figure out who the killer is along with Jack and JJ, usually I am completely blindsided by the actual suspect. This story keep me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn’t wait for a few minutes of quiet so that I could sneak in a couple pages to read. I love this series and I am looking forward to the next book already.
I loved the surprise ending
I really like the series but this book was just a little shy of what the others were. I especially didn’t like the ending. Sorry to be a spoiler.
J.J. Graves is a great character. She is intelligent but funny, and at the same time vulnerable.
I can’t wait till Playing Dirty is out. I love the characters of Jack and Jaye. What a scumbag that Floyd Parker is. I love the humor and banter that goes on between Jack and JJ. I love the way they solve the murders too. And I enjoy the detail Liliana puts into the stories. I couldn’t stop reading this book. I have read the whole series except for 2.
