Dirty Deeds 2 by Armand Rosamilia.
Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive.
We see James Gaffney searching for his kidnapped assistant Marisa, his right-hand gal ,computer hacker extraordinaire, his friend and apprentice.
She was taken by one of the kids that he saved in the past, but which one? The kidnapper goes by the name Harry, but James knew that is not his real name. Nor can he understand why Harry would do this sort of thing to punish James after he gave him the life he deserved and got him out of a bad situation. He should be thanking James.
Time is running out and James has to figure out where Harry has taken Marisa. but without her hacking skills he is at a lost.
He turns to Marco a mob hacker he had worked with in the past … just one problem, Marco is on the run from “The family”, and no one knows where he is. The clock is ticking on Marisa’s life so James turns to the last person he cares to ask about Marcos whereabouts, that would be the head of “The Family” Chinso. Chinso send Chazz to help James look for Marco, Chazz & Marco had been close childhood friends, if anyone had a clue where Marco may be held up, it would be the Chazz.
Neither James nor Chazz is thrilled with this team up, James views Chazz as a typical ‘meathead” not very bright and who seems to be trying to eat his way across the country. James is unaware at the time Chinso had a hidden agenda for why he wanted Chazz to help him find Marco. That reason would become apparent soon enough.
James tried to not let the cracks in his armor show, he matched the big man’s intimidation with his own.
He couldn’t allow Chazz to see any weakness or the shark would take advantage of it. Truth be told Harry had done more than just take Marisa, he had taken everything James had worked for his entire life, including his identity while selling off all James assets for pennies on the dollar. All that was left of James money was what he had in his pocket.
While in Florida, James stumbles across the FBI agent Reggie Keane, the man that has tried so many times to put James behind bars for what he thinks James has done. So that was another wrinkle in James plan to get Marisa back. You see Keane was working outside of his official capacity and therefore was a free agent with no backup or assistance in any way from his co-workers at the FBI.
This team of misfit toys, were a better match than any of them wanted to admit, and quite comical at times. Will they find Marisa in time? Would James be able to start over from scratch at this point in his life?
The Multi-talented Armand Rosimila did it again! I was first introduced to his work through his zombie series Dying Days, then he started writing crime novels and who doesn’t love a well thought out crime novel?I love his charters in this series and how things are not what they seem. The invention of James Gaffney was brilliant. He is an interesting character with the “most unique” job. Where appearing to be a killer and thug helps to further his career and being on the wrong side of the law is a definite perk.
Entertaining, fast-paced, and throws in a good laugh once in a while. Armand has found his flow with this sequel and I’m anxious to see what happens next!
