A “funny, heart-hammering, wise” (The New York Times) best-selling portrait of a family that will remind you why “to read a novel by Anne Tyler is to fall in love” (PEOPLE). Abandoned by her wanderlusting husband, stoic Pearl raised her three children on her own. Now grown, the siblings are inextricably linked by their memories—some painful—which hold them together despite their differences. … despite their differences.
Hardened by life’s disappointments, wealthy, charismatic Cody has turned cruel and envious. Thrice-married Jenny is errant and passionate. And Ezra, the flawed saint of the family, who stayed at home to look after his mother, runs a restaurant where he cooks what other people are homesick for, stubbornly yearning for the perfect family he never had.
Now gathered during a time of loss, they will reluctantly unlock the shared secrets of their past and discover if what binds them together is stronger than what tears them apart.
“[In Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant Tyler] has arrived at a new level of power.” —John Updike, The New Yorker
“Marvelous, astringent, hilarious, [and] strewn with the banana peels of love.” —Cosmopolitan

Good, but not best writing.
This book was boring.
Not my usual fare, but an absorbing read. Definitely NOT a “feel good” story.
So sad. I kept thinking it would get better. It didn’t. It ended awful.
Just kinda got lost in all the disfunction.
A page-turner as are all of Anne Tyler’s books.
This is my favorite Anne Tyler book.
Sad but good in a weird way
I’m not a huge Ann Tyler fan. My late Aunt introduced me too her years ago with the Ladder Years (?). I thought it slow & sedate. The last couple years I have given her another try (nostalgia for my Aunt) and have found that now that I better understand her style , I quite enjoy her style of writing. Her characters are interesting and the stories …
Slow moving, but ok…..pretty typical Anne Tyler
For me this book was depressing and boring.
Hey, your disfunctional family is worse than my dysfunctional family! Not a tear jerker if you like that sort of thing but a good read.
Ann Tyler has the talent of pulling you into the lives of her characters. Not the typical happy family, but you find yourself pulling for all of the family members.
Boringq
I enjoy most of Anne Tyler’s works. Usually know I’m in for a good read.
Loved it
The story is interesting & well written, it is however tedious. I find myself plowing thru.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Tyler’s Finest.
I like every Anne Tyler book I have ever read and this was no exception.
