Does he dare to love her? After his mother goes too far in her attempts to marry him off to a woman of social standing, Dillon Hatcher follows in his brother’s footsteps and escapes to his grandparents’ house. Though he misses breeding the American Quarter horses at home, he’s happy to help the horse rescues at Last Chance Ranch. What he’s not happy about is Hailey Pennington literally dropping … dropping in. Do his mother’s schemes know no bounds?
Hailey, “the Hellion” as her brothers fondly call her, has been crushing on Dillon for over a year, so when she discovers he’s moved to Last Chance, she takes the opportunity to meet up with him without his mother’s interference. It doesn’t take long for her to see the man is open to a relationship…as long as it isn’t with one of his mother’s favorites. Just her luck, that’s exactly what she is.
Determined not to fall for Hailey, Dillon finds himself becoming far too interested in her. But before he can decide which is more important, denying his mother or pursuing his own happiness, fate steps in, leaving him no choice at all.

There are some authors who just make a reader feel like they’re coming home….and Lexi Post is definitely one. Dillon’s Dare is book 5 in the Last Chance series, and is every bit as heartfelt and endearing as the previous stories have been.
Dillon Hatcher is Cole’s younger brother and is just as overwhelmed and disgruntled by his interfering mother and her devious plans to pick the perfect bride. But when she goes one step to far with her youngest son, Dillon leaves the home he loves above all else and heads for the Last Chance ranch and his brother and Granma’s welcoming embrace.
Hailey Pennington is a privileged, wealthy socialite who has spent her life, living to the extreme. No activity is off limits and the thrill of the challenge is what gets her heart racing most. Christened Hellion by her three brothers, Hailey never backs down and is determined to experience all that she can. But her infatuation for one sexy Hatcher brother may be her biggest challenge of all, as he’s equally determined to avoid any woman with money and social standing that will appeal to his mother’s desires for public acceptance.
Dillon and Hailey’s story is jam-packed with misunderstandings, misplaced pride and self-refection that comes at a cost. Their characters are wonderful and reel you in from the very first time you meet them; and the storyline is easy flowing and written at just the right pace. I loved everything about this book and know that this author will remain a must read in the future.
Hot Cowboy That Finds Love With Adventure!
Dillon’s Dare: WOW! Loved it! Hot cowboys with love for animals and woman! I loved the reaction that Hailey got out of Dillon. It was great. They were wonderful together. I loved Dillon caringness that he showed towards Hailey. It was a hot love story! Lexi Post did a wonderful job of writing this story!
Dillon’s Dare (Book 5 in the Last Chance Series) by Lexi Post. This is Dillon Hatcher and Hailey Pennington’s story.
Oh my, I fell in love with Dillon from the start. Dillon thinks Hailey is a spoiled princess rich girl which turns out to be so far from the truth. He is attracted to her but tries ignore this attraction but you can guess how that works for him. Hailey is a dare devil which one of the things that causes problems between them. Will Dillon and Hailey be able to take a chance on love or will they let all these obstacles win?
A great story with hot chemistry between Hailey and Dillon with some laughs, tears, and twists along the way.
It was fun catching up with old friends from the Last Chance series. I look forward to Cordell “Cord” Pennington’s (Hailey’s brother) story in Aloha Cowboy, book number one in the Island Cowboy series.
FYI contains mature content.
Loved this story of Dillon and Hailey! It was fun, sad at times, lively and had very likeable characters! Good easy read you will fall in love with!
After Dillon’s grand entrance in Logan’s Luck – no spoilers, got to read it! – I was very curious about his character and was glad to see he got his own story…and what a story, for sure! There is lots of drama, excitement, humor, and romance in this book that will definitely keep you flipping pages.
Because of Dillon’s mother and her desperate need to marry him off to any eligible young woman of social standing she can find, he leaves home and escapes to Last Chance to join his grandparents, brother, and cousins and help at their rescue ranch. He misses his ranch and life before his mother’s constant interference and knows he will never be able to return home unless he caves and meets his mother’s demands of marrying him off to someone of her choosing. That alone sets his fate and keeps him determined to find a woman completely opposite of what is expected and approved by her. However, the deck seems stacked against him when Hailey Pennington comes almost crashing down on their ranch. At first he blames his mother and knows they have concocted some sort of scheme to rope him in which sets him on edge but the more time he spends with her, he begins to wonder if all suspicion is just in his head and if Hailey is indeed exactly what she seems. He is drawn to her in a way he does not understand and the more he learns the more he wants to know. But when he starts weighing the pros and cons things start pointing in mother’s favor. Ultimately, he does not know if he can risk his heart with Hailey giving his mother exactly what she wants or if he will have the strength to just walk away. Hailey’s daredevil actions certainly push his decision one way, but is it fair to them to end something wonderful regardless of the cost.
Hailey has had a crush on Dillon for what seems like forever. Even when his mother was pushing her at Cole at a family event, her eyes were still drawn to him. Her major problem is she knows she has no chance with the sexy cowboy since he is absolutely against everyone his mother has tried to force his way. Since she is now her number one candidate to marry off to her son it seems to be a lost cause. And yet when she learns he has left his ranch and moved to Last Chance, she decides to take matters in her own hands and meet him outside his mother’s influence and interference. The more time they spend together she thinks they just might have a true chance but when circumstances out of her control jumble their relationship, it turns out she may be the cause of their demise.
I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. They were fun, engaging, and added freshness to the story by pulling in new additions – Hailey’s brothers – and giving a bit of added excitement, humor, and drama where they were concerned. As always, I loved all the interaction between the family and enjoyed the horse rescue aspect of the story (yet this one was a little more heartbreaking in that regard than the previous). Dillon and Hailey definitely had some obstacles to overcome – the main one being Dillon – but I really loved how it all worked out in the end for them. *This book also leads into the spin-off series with Hailey’s brothers in Post’s new Island Cowboy series starting with the middle brother, Cordell Pennington.
Dillon’s Dare is another phenomenal read by Lexi Post. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Be warned, this is one of those books you don’t want to put down once you start it. The characters in this book are fantastic, you can’t help but love them. Dillon moves in with his grandparents to avoid his mother’s attempts to marry him off to socialites. When Hailey almost crash lands a hot air balloon on Dillon’s grandparents’ ranch, Dillon plans to keep his distance from her. Dillon and Hailey’s story is packed with drama, humor, action and sizzle. I loved this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Lexi Post. Dillon’s Dare is book 5 of the Last Chance Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
