Before the multi-million, runaway bestseller The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown set his razor-sharp research and storytelling skills on the most powerful intelligence organization on earth–the National Security Agency (NSA)–in this thrilling novel, Digital Fortress. When the NSA’s invincible code-breaking machine encounters a mysterious code it cannot break, the agency calls its head cryptographer, … calls its head cryptographer, Susan Fletcher, a brilliant and beautiful mathematician. What she uncovers sends shock waves through the corridors of power. The NSA is being held hostage…not by guns or bombs, but by a code so ingeniously complex that if released it would cripple U.S. intelligence.
Caught in an accelerating tempest of secrecy and lies, Susan Fletcher battles to save the agency she believes in. Betrayed on all sides, she finds herself fighting not only for her country but for her life, and in the end, for the life of the man she loves.
From the underground hallways of power to the skyscrapers of Tokyo to the towering cathedrals of Spain, a desperate race unfolds. It is a battle for survival–a crucial bid to destroy a creation of inconceivable genius…an impregnable code-writing formula that threatens to obliterate the post-cold war balance of power. Forever.

Digital Fortress is the first book Dan Brown published, and it’s the last of his that I read. I am now up to date and awaiting whatever comes next (outside his newer children’s release). I enjoy thrillers and suspense novels, but I haven’t figured out my favorite authors in this genre yet. I’m determined to make that a 2021 reading goal. Before I …
A fast paced story with lots of interesting characters. The story takes place on 2 different fronts with 2 leading characters. I especially liked the subtle messages (at least I thought they were messages) about ‘how far can you go and still be the good guy’ or ‘can the end justify your means’ these for me are always captivating topics.
“Digital …
Really enjoyed this book. Seems Dan Brown is mixing it up between religion and artificial intelligence….
I cannot say this is the best book of Dan Brown, but it still does the trick. It is entertaining, even while it has some of the deepest secrets of the way we could imagine Information Technology. The book weaves a tale of lies and deceit, compounded by a wall of secrecy and a code that could ruin the American Intelligence Services and everything …
I’m a fan of Dan Brown, and I’ve enjoyed all of his later books to varying degrees, but this, his first novel, is my favourite. This fast-paced novel held my interest and kept me turning pages until the satisfying conclusion.
I would always recommend a Dan Brown book. I love his style of writing.
Another great book by this author. Very engrossing. Hard to put down once you start reading.
Before Dan became famous for the DaVinci Code, he wrote several great books. This is one of them
Not Brown’s best.
Brown is a genius story teller keeping you enthralled and invested. Highly recommended!
I couldn’t stop reading the next page to know what happens next.
Love all his books
I found myself reading for a solid twenty four hours. Best ever.
I’m a little biased since I am a huge Dan Brown fan. This was his first novel and I thought it was well done. Of course with Dan Brown, you get the conspiracy, you get the twists, you get the suspense. The story was well done and his research into the NSA and the world of digital cryptology seem pretty spot on. If i had any issues it was with the …
Love the book!! Could not put it down!!
Like all of Dan Brown’s books, well written and a great story
Everything Dan Brown writes is 5 Star.
Not being a “techie”, made this a different kind of read for me, but one that I enjoyed none the less. Mr Brown definitely has a creative mind and has put it to the test with this book.
Any of his books in this line are great books, with great plots, and scarily predicting what the future might hold….
Dan Brown takes us on a digital ride that has so many scary and unexpected twists and turns! Wow! Loved it!
