Our heroine is rather desperate and takes a job that prudence would say she should steer away from. But then she doesn’t always listen to prudence.
This is the sixth book in this series, but each one is written as a standalone. Reading the other books will give you more detail on the main character, but is not necessary for your enjoyment of this book. Jump in at any time.
This is a wonderful story full of action, intrigue and mysteries. The story is very well written and populated with interesting, well developed characters that give the story depth. The action starts pretty quickly and then doesn’t stop, enough so that it kept me glued to the page when I should be doing other things. I also feel like I am learning something about geology each time I read one of these. This is another excellent entry in the series and I am hoping there will be another story in the future.
Highly recommended.

Awesome book that from the beginning held my interest and kept me reading, glued to turning those pages. I love this author’s writing style and as this is the 3rd book I have read by her, I love each book better than the previous.

Sam does her best to make it in a male dominated field. Whatever it takes. If you can survive the hazing and the weird attitudes, the pay is not so bad, really.
What goes on in the minds of men? She must be a spy or a whore? Nope. Just a woman. Period. Full stop. Big surprise right? Girls like geology, Fire fighting, and other things not involving selling their body parts.
Sadly the location of this job does leave a gal open to threats of trafficking, but hey?
Three cheers for an action and attitude packed adventure!
Great KU read!

Digging Deeper by PJ Skinner is the sixth, stand-alone book in the riveting Sam Harris Adventure series. Sam Harris is female geoligist trying to succeed in typical male dominated field in the late 1990s. This installment takes you into the world of mining diamonds in South Africa, enlightening us in the issues of the people and those that would work any job, even if it means possibly losing their own lives.
Ms. Skinner does a fantastic job creating the characters and making them real and believable. You’ll recognize or gain insights into topics not often mentioned about women trying to suceed in a profession dominated by men and the changing role of women in “macho” societies I guarantee you’ll have trouble separating the good guys from the bad.
The feisty, somewhat rebellious geologist, Sam Harris is intelligent and passionate about her job and won’t be stopped when she sees wrongs that must be righted. But this time may be her biggest challenge yet. From day one her fellow employees treat her as a spy. If this wasn’t bad enough, she’s not in Mondongo like she was promised, she’s in remote Kardo, where militant rebels could attack at anytime – and do.
The ending will have you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails to the quick – right to the last page.
I’d recommend this 5-star book to anyone who has an adventurous spirit and likes a strong female protagonist.

Action, Adventure, Danger and Brilliant Writing! A thrilling story about diamond mining in Africa, with lots of wonderful characters. Don’t miss this exciting book!
I loved this story about a female geologist who gets a job in a diamond mine in West Africa. The descriptions of the locations and the conditions are superb, and I almost felt as though I’d been there.
The characters are great, they are believable despite maybe being mild caricatures, but then again perhaps the people who do these jobs are really a bit larger than life.
I also found the technical details of the mining process interesting, the author shows her experience and expertise in these areas.
The story takes a dramatic and tragic turn for the worse and I really found myself completely engrossed wit the book, wanting to get to the end to find out how the story ends. It was really gripping writing.
Book 6 of Sam’s life sees her head to a worn torn country, employed by another dodgy boss and thrown in at the deep end.
Her journey starts with travelling to South Africa to see the new boss, then heading to Tamazia to start working in a diamond mine. She encounters the usual issues of being blanked out by the all male staff, dealing with the loneliness lack of training onsite. When she ends up being kidnapped with a couple of coworkers by the local rebels and held for ransom, the big question is whether the dodgy boss will stump up the money…..
Sam held her own throughout the story and, in my opinion, showed more nerves of steel than in previous adventures. Her desire to fit into a male dominated world, now in 1998, still shows through, and her ways of handling it still haven’t really changed over the years, but the story line was excellent, with twists and turns abounding, and held my attention enough that I finished the book in one sitting. I look forward to Sam’s concluding chapter in Book 7.
