Matilda Dare can’t sleep. Her insomnia is one more reason to move to the quirky small town of Goodnight, New Mexico after she inherits a house, a small newspaper, and two old dogs there. But despite the Goodnight name, Matilda still spends hers wide awake, and she has good reason after a reporter is murdered. With a mystery to solve, she begins to investigate the town and uncovers more suspects … suspects than she knows what to do with.
Meanwhile, the hottie cowboy sheriff is doing his own investigation into Matilda, and the mysterious, handsome stranger, who just happens to live with her, is showing up in all the wrong places. As her investigation continues, danger increases, and it might end up spelling lights out for Matilda.
Die Noon is the first installment in the hilarious, romantic Goodnight Mysteries series and a spinoff of the Matchmaker Mysteries.

This was an unexpected ride. A murder mystery with an hysterically funny heroine. Enjoy.
To over the top.
Mathilda Dare inherits a house and newspaper business in New Mexico; she is happy to leave California and her murderous husband. The amount of trouble Mathilda gets into in her new town is amazing – and hysterical. This is, bar none, the funniest book I’ve ever read! The zingers, one liners, puns, malapropisms, and pratfalls just keep coming. If for nothing else, you should read the man-boob incident at the pool opening. It is the first of many laugh-out-loud moments in the book. Mathilda ignores the town’s rumor mill and makes some good friends. She also attracts two hunky males, Amos and Boone. So Mathilda’s life is never dull as she begins working as a cub reporter at her own newspaper and solves mysteries at the same time.
Snappy repartee was amusing but didn’t always seem appropriate.
Simple narrative, unable to finish reading, boring
A very fun read. A wide variety of interesting characters that make this a humorous yet a bit over the top funny mystery. The mystery is solved with a surprising solution which seems a bit sudden. What seems to be a background story leaves us with a big cliffhanger. I will be reading the next installment in the series.
A great escape with lots of laughs and a side dish of romance. I just wish I was as productive in the middle of the night as insomniac, intrepid reporter, and reluctant sleuth Matilda.
strange / didn’t like
I liked the story; sharp and up to date. Characters are likable but they pretty typical. Still a good read.
I’m a new fan of this author. She’s great. You’ll love this one if you like to get lost in an hysterical mystery.

Lots to keep you interested and reading.
This book made me laugh out loud.
Great story!
I loved how unpredictible this story was and the twists and turns it took. It’s a great fun read.
Great summer read! Ha ha funny!
This book is the beginning of a fun new mystery series. The characters are interesting, the geography is unique, and the woman who inherited the newspaper has many challenges to face. I now want to follow this author and read other books in this series.
Ridiculous situations, funny often, keeps one second guessing, quite a change of pace, multiple strong attraction references. Only downside was the repetition of some topics that was simple enough to grasp on the first read through. All in all, entertaining & down to earth written language.
It was a fun book to read. I enjoyed the escape into this whimsical world.
I thought I’d never want to leave Gladie and Cannes, but I’m moving to Goodnight now! Matilda has her hands full with her new life. Amos & Boone are more than happy to help. Elise Sax has done it again. She’s created a new town, new quirky characters, with all new laughs and fun. I can’t get enough!
It was a fast read but……….I finished the book hoping there would be more too it.
