I went into this book with very high expectations. I had heard so many people talk about this book and say how good it was, so I was expecting the same feeling. You know what, I totally did. This book exceeded my expectations and quickly became one of my favourite books of all time!!!!
I started the book by thinking it would be my lighthearted and easy read. It was all of the things I thought it would be, but it was also so much more. It was emotional, heartwarming and heartbreaking. You had scandal, love, tears and raw honesty at some points.
I instantly fell in love with Eden Munro the minute she was introduced to the story. After personally experiencing divorce as a child, I knew exactly what Eden was going through. She was scared, heartbroken and neglected. Due to this, her entire childhood and life so far was completely shattered and altered due to her father. Now, she has to go spend the entire summer with said father. She is dreading the entire summer because of this, that is until she meets her angst filled stepbrother, Tyler.
“Who the hell is this jackass?”
“I’m guessing you haven’t met your step-brother yet.”
Tyler Bruce is the boy who redefines what a bad boy is. He creates trouble as though it seems to always follow him around. Yes he is bad, however, as you keep reading, you find out that there is more to him than just his bad boy attitude. He has gone through some major challenges in his life and in coping with it, turns into the person that he has. Just like with Eden, my heart hurt for him.
“He tastes like beer and tobacco, but there’s something enthralling about it. It’s so familiar because it’s so him, his permanent taste.”
The chemistry these two characters shared was undeniable. They had an honest and real connection that was impossible to deny. They were able to open up to each other and find reason to be together even through all of the pain and struggle.
“We shouldn’t be kissing on the floor of his bathroom and his hands shouldn’t be on my body and I shouldn’t be enjoying it.”
This book is about so much more than just first love. It is about family connections, divorce, the struggle to do the right thing and the power to overcome your weaknesses. Estelle has delivered a beautifully written masterpiece that will leave you breathless.
I am highly anticipating the second and third books in this series and already know, that they, just like this book will be making my favourite books of all time list.
5/5 Stars!
3.5
This book was different. There was a love story, but the context involved so much more.
It has lots of things a parent, a teacher, or anyone working with young people could read. It expresses many important things on what teenagers may be exposed to, insecurities that may haunt them, lacking of decision making skills.
I like it. It’s useful and real. Here are some important points:
There were lots of examples about situations were teenagers are vulnerable.
Several examples of peer pressure.
Teenage love. Very emotional.
Decision taking. Or not, and hoping things stay that way (very teenagey).
The thing that I did not enjoy: the book felt long and redundant at some point. Lots of detail for moments that are not relevant.
And, out of nowhere, people were calling them “siblings” when they didn’t even live together, much less interact with one another and actually, they just met. So, people assuming they were “siblings” felt forced, even if it was necessary for the drama.
So I had this book on my bookshelf for over a year. Then I was working one day and can not use electronics for it. So I grabbed this book and by the time I was done with work I had over 100 pages read. I could not put this book down at all. Lately, I haven’t been reading very many young adult books like usual. So it was a nice pace to find this book. I am actually really surprise this book was young adult with a lot of adult things in it. This book is AMAZING and I am not saying that lightly. I fell in love with Eden and Tyler. I even cheered them on to make a relationship. But I will say this, I hate Eden’s dad with a passion. Not just in this book but the rest of the series. Hate him hate him hate him. The characters are well rounded and both have a lot of faults and issues. Their romance was not quick at all and really wasn’t down building up in this book. You have got to check this book out!
I love teenage romance as well…
I can remember myself reading these books when I was a teenage girl and I wanted so much to find someone like these boys…I found him…I couldn’t be more happy! Love is always a solution…
There are not enough words in the world to discribe this book, when you pick up did I mention I love you. You will not just be reading a classic romance novel you will be reading about teens who were screwed over by life itself but have chosen to cope in separate ways but find the right person to help them make sense of the world around them after the impact of life.
I love how their love is real, like real life love it so amazing. I didn’t think I would like the step-sibling dynamic, but it turned out I shipped them really hard by then end of book one. By book three I was ugly crying and yelling at them more than I normally do. I can’t wait to recommend this book!!!
