I love all of Ilona Andrews books! This is the beginning of a new trilogy with Catalina Baylor and Alessandro Sargredo as the primaries. I love the way they manage the detective agency, as well as glimpses of our favorites from previous books! Definitely recommend, but even better if you start with the Hidden Legacy books staring Nevada and Conner Rogan, White Hot being the first.
I thought it was a great bridge to the second trilogy in the Hidden Jewels legacy series.
I’m a massive Ilona Andrews fan, so it should come as no shock that I love this series. If you prefer your urban fantasy lite on the romance but full of action and butt-kicking heroines, you’ll love this.
A really easy read you’ll devour before the night is through.
Connor Rogan and Nevada Baylor are getting married
Connor and Nevada are getting married. Catalina and Arabella are planning the wedding. Rogan’s relatives fall into two camps. The ones he likes and the ones he doesn’t. His mother insists all need to be invited.
Nevada is turning into a bridzilla. The traditional tiara that the bride’s on Rogan’s mother side is missing. Arrosa Rogan has asked Catalina to find it.
She learns some unsavory things about some of Rogan’s relatives.
Sets a trap to catch Kelly.
Finds the lost tiara.
Catalina learns more about her power. Rogan’s mother has offered to take her under her wing.
A fun novella where Catalina has a chance to shine.
I enjoyed this novella and liked seeing more of the secondary characters from the Hidden Legacy. Meeting Mrs. Rogan was definitely awesome. When looking at the story from Catalina’s perspective it was amazing. But it seemed like Nevada was there for the prologue but disappeared for the rest of the story. I get that it was the introduction to Catalina as the main character, but Rogan had more face time than Nevada. Also when we did see Nevada, she wasn’t acting like herself. I can’t imagine even a wedding and the stress of the mass of family would make Nevada’s turn into a Bridzilla and completely miss all the stuff going on around her. I wish there had been a scene between Catalina and Nevada at the end (more than a thumb’s up), I feel like the Nevada we came to know from her trilogy would have realized Catalina was taking on a huge role and possibly stepped aside to let her learn while subtlety helping out (kind of like turning over the reins)? That or they should have had her completely out of the picture like they have Dina out of Maud’s novella in the latest Innkeeper.
Overall I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the upcoming books focusing on Catalina and other secondary characters (although the cut opening/snippet where Catalina is head of House Baylor worries me a bit, I can’t see Nevada leaving her family for House Rogan, I more seem them bucking tradition and both keeping their names and Houses). Ultimately at the end of this novella I feel less settled with Nevada and Rogan’s story than I did at the end of Wildfire (which is a bit odd since it’s supposed to be a bit of an epilogue for them).
Nevada Baylor and Connor Rogan are getting married, and Nevada’s sisters Catalina and Arabella are handling the wedding planning, while their family and Rogan’s staff take care of security. Complicating things are Connor’s extended family – his mother’s relatives from Spain have all arrived at his mother’s home to attend the wedding. I loved that the story is told from Catalina’s point of view, and that now that’s she’s eighteen and certified as a Prime, she’s coming into her own with her magic and responsibilities. Catalina is going to make sure her sister has the wedding of her dreams, no matter what she has to do to accomplish it. I thought Connor’s mother was pretty awesome as well and I hope we see more of her in further stories.
Absolutely wonderful book but as it is in the middle of a series (Hidden Legacy), it’s not the book to start with. For best enjoyment, read the books in order.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella including the transition from Nevada and Rogan being the main focus to Catalina (the Siren) and perhaps eventually (date I hope) Alessandro.
Many new and intriguing characters were revealed as well and it seems that Mrs. Rogan will be a proactive part of Catalina’s transition to leadership in her family, society, and her role as a Prime.
Love this series and this author !!!
love Ilona Andrews books
Beautiful segue
A Hidden Legacy novella, this is book 3.5 in the series. I’ve already read Sapphire Flames as I’m writing this review (Hidden Legacy book 4), and imo, while you don’t need to read this before reading book 4, there is setup here that most fans would want to have. For example, a new character is introduced who has a major role in the next book, and we get a lot of background on Rogan’s mother.
There’s some nice character evolution for Catalina as she steps up into a leading role both in organizing her sister’s wedding and running investigations that directly impact the wedding. We get to learn more about how her magic works as well as how her magic has affected her personality, all with the usual suspense/mystery elements that keep the plot moving right along.
A beautifully written segue that puts a flourish on Nevada’s story while introducing us to Catalina as narrator. 5+ stars
Audiobook: Narrators – Renee Raudman and Emily Rankin
Great narration on both these ladies’ parts! Ms. Raudman is highlighted in just a small portion as Nevada is not the primary character in this story. Ms. Rankin performs Catalina to perfection! I loved absolutely everything about the way she narrated her character as well as additional characters. Certainly a narrator I will look forward to listening more of in the future.
This was a fast listen, but full of plenty of mystery and drama. I loved getting to really know more of Catalina and some of the things that make her tick or that hold her back. She could even possibly steal the stage from Nevada and I’d be hard pressed to know which one I’d rather read more about. I love that she fears using her magic and yet in this story she learns to utilize it. She’s got a lot to overcome in regards to her emotional response to the affect she has on those she uses it on. I’m hoping we get more about her and a possible romantic interest as this series moves forward. I’m crazy in love with everything to do with Catalina, Nevada and the rest of their crew as well as Rogan and his people.
I love all of Ilona Andrews books. This is a bit about Nevada and Rogans wedding but more of an introduction to Catalina.
This is part of the Baylor series. I guess I’m more interested in Nevada’s tale from Nevada’s perspective than switching over to that of her sister. The story was fine. The characters were fine, but it lacked the pizzaz of the other novels. I didn’t feel terribly interested in reading the rest of the series after this book. That being said, it just might be me not connecting with the characters because I’m already okay with their world. I’ve read enough.
I LOVED IT!!!! This spin off series is already off to a fantastic start. New magic, new characters – it absolutely enveloped me.
Her books just keep getting better!
This was a fun read, well up to Andrew’s standards
I’m a big fan of all Ilona Andrews books. I particularly like the Hidden Legacy novels. Interesting plot, great characters, a great read!
As always, Ilona Andrews delivers a freaking excellent story even when short. I wasn’t so sure about the move from the main characters in the Hidden Legacy trilogy to the younger sister, but I should have trusted my favorite writing duo. This was excellent.
I only hope the upcoming books are as awesome as the first three.
Suspenseful, life like and edge of seat story.
