I loved this , book. It was so good, I read it straight, through.
This was my first book by her and it was fantastic. Your readers will love, it.
I have loved the heroine – relentless and honest. And the other inhabitants of the island, too!
Fun book & series to read
Great read especially for a cozy mystery. Stayed up til 3am so I could finish it.
I really enjoyed this hard-to-put-down book.
In “Dial P for Poison” by Zara Keane readers meet Maggie Doyle who has left her job as officer in the San Francisco Police Department and also left her cheating husband to go to Whisper Island, Ireland and stay with her Aunt Noreen. She wants to spend time in Ireland deciding what she would do with the rest of her life. During the ten years that Maggie had not visited the Island and become a wife and police officer, Aunt Noreen had purchased the local movie theater and turned it into the Movie Theater Cafe, the most popular eatery on the island. In addition to the front of the building being turned into a restaurant, the part that was once the actual movie theater had become the meeting place for the various clubs on the island with Aunt Noreen serving various baked goods and alcohol and other drinks to the island residents. On movie club nights, many of the islanders even came in formal attire to watch a movie, mingle, eat and drink. Although Maggie could not cook or bake very well, she did know how to make mixed alcoholic beverages and it became her job to do so. When the movie, “Dial M for Murder”, was over, and the people were leaving, Maggie noticed that the most hated woman on the island, Sandra Walker, was still in her seat. She tried to wake her and found that she was dead. Maggie’s police training kicked into gear and she wrapped the woman’s glass and the remnants of her drink to give to the local police just in case the woman did not die of natural causes. Maggie had her cousin Julie call a doctor and the police. The doctor, Dr. Reilly, said the woman died of a heart attack and did not think it was necessary to call the police. Maggie thought he should give the body an autopsy before he came to that conclusion. Sergeant O’Shea, the head of the island police force, arrived and was very annoyed that he was called, especially since the doctor said the woman died of a heart attack. Maggie told Sergeant O’Shea that she had saved the woman’s glass and the left over liquid so it could be tested and the police sergeant became even more annoyed, telling her she was not the police on the island. He also said that Sandra’s daughter would be very angry that Maggie was making her mother’s death a police matter. When Aunt Noreen was arrested for the murder and put in jail by the police Sergeant, Maggie got her friend Lenny and cousin Julie to help her find the murderer. Readers will not be able to put the book down until the murderer of Sarah Walker is found and Aunt Noreen is cleared.
Not my usual genre but I couldn’t put it down!
The solution comes quickly and without a strong reveal. But all in all a good read.
Cute little story
Enjoyed the setting in Ireland and the characters. With so many suspects, I didn’t guess who the killer was.
Fun start to the series! I’ve already bought book 2.
I liked it so well, I bought other books in this series!
Loved the entire series. More please
Light reading.
Maggie Doyle quit her job as a police officer and left her ex–she caught him cheating! Kind of not knowing what to do with the rest of her life she jumps on the chance to go visit her Aunt in Ireland. So she travels from America to Ireland for a month of rest and relaxation–the best laid plans–
Her aunt owns a cafe and also rents out space to clubs–lets face it–not much to do in this small town off season. Maggie is asked to watch the cafe for a day–this was actually kind of funny–how does one learn to bake in one day? Her aunt retuns from having some teeth extracted. That evening at the Movie club–one of the town’s most disliked inhabitants is found dead in her seat.
Maggie’s aunt is accused of the crime by the bumbling sheriff who really only wanted to be on the golf course. Maggie, who remember is an EX American cop has no choice but to try and clear her aunts name.
There are quite a few twists and turns and more then a couple of laughs –including a new sheriff who shows up–
Will Maggie and friends be able to exonerate her aunt from the murder?
Not worth the money
Enjoyed reading an easy read that was easy to follow the characters. The murderer was not easy to figure out which kept you guessing till the reveal at the end.
I felt like I knew the heroine, she was smart and genuine. The characters were believable and I cheered for them. I didn’t see the villain until it was too late. Good read at night
