Forbes Mates: Book One Finley Cooper is tired of waiting for his destined mate to be ready to claim him. In deference to human laws, he’s already agreed to wait until he’s eighteen. But now his birthday has come and gone–and his mate has a new set of excuses. Finley doesn’t understand it any more than his wolf does, and he’s beginning to wonder if fate made a mistake. Tanner Pearce wants nothing …
Tanner Pearce wants nothing more than to claim his mate, but he worries that Finley is too young. Tanner will never forget what happened when his best friend mated at Finley’s age, only to have that mate end up feeling trapped and breaking their bond. While rare, it can happen, and the fallout Tanner witnessed as his best friend tried to deal with the break has haunted him for years.
When Finley finally has enough, he threatens to find someone who will claim him if Tanner doesn’t, and Tanner realizes he needs to come to terms with his fears or risk losing his mate forever.

I loved the world building in this story, and the little details that made everything feel so real, like the fact that the wolves don’t like to fly as it makes them feel trapped. I liked the way the wolf shifters were written, with human and wolf separate entities, yet a part of the whole that makes up each person. It’s obvious the author has put a lot of thought into the wolves, their history, myths, and beliefs. I thought the telepathic bond between a fully mated/claimed couple was cool, and that the wolves don’t see in colour.
Finley and Tanner are both interesting characters. I could feel Finley’s frustration with Tanner, yet could understand why Tanner was cautious too.
I liked the family vibe within the pack too, and how everyone works together to help each other out. I particularly liked Jamie, and am very pleased that his book is next. Tanner’s mother is wonderful as she’s very upfront and says what she thinks.
The settings felt very real, and I had very clear visuals as I was reading.
The author’s writing style made this a very easy, smooth read, and I got hooked into the story very quickly, and kept turning pages to make sure these guys got their happy ending.
More please.
Tanner is so worried about scaring his mate he ends up driving him away. In the process of getting it right we see him realize that Finely knows his own mind and has his own strength. The strength lets them actually build an even stronger bond.
I love the story in this book. It is so rare you read a book where two mates meet but one of them refuses to claim the other and they lived like that for 2 years!! It was a really realistic plot for me and I felt like it was like if you have been together with someone for 2 years and they refused sex with you then you would get desperate too.
Finlay is an instant love for me. He was just perfect from the beginning and I could relate to him so easy and I really felt with him on his ”mating” and how he was sad, frustrated, embarrassed and lonely. He was what made this book realistic for me and took it down to ground level. But I am still in awe of his huge heart and how he just open it up for everyone who needed some love.
Tanner, on the other hand, was not a man I was crazy about at all. But at least in the beginning he intrigued me and I could feel he was struggling, but then he just had to go be a stubborn asshole and forget to think with his heart (or in this situation even his dick) and not his head. He kept finding new problems, new reasons why it wasn’t right, didn’t fit for him or he didn’t feel right about it. I could have strangled him sometimes!
Even though most of this book the couple is separated and you don’t get that loving feeling and it doesn’t even feel like a slow burn it kept me on my toes and had my attention from the beginning. I loved how new and different this book seemed than a lot of other PA books.
So are you looking for your next shifter romance but are craving something new? Then this is your book.
