Devlin – Book One
As the second Blackthorne son, Devlin usually likes to stay out of the family drama, but with his family suddenly falling apart, he has one way to bring them back together. He wants to win the Southern Maine Sailing Invitational, like his father and uncle before him. He has built the fastest boat, he has planned for every contingency, except one…a beautiful blonde determined to beat him and avenge a family betrayal.
Hannah Reid is tired of watching the Blackthornes win races on boats built by her dad, especially after the family patriarch fired her father. She has only one way to get revenge, win the race. Unfortunately, Devlin Blackthorne is standing in her way. She wants to hate him, but Devlin’s love of the sea and brave, adventurous spirit mirrors her own, and she begins to realize that this sexy, charming man is hurting, too.
As they race to the finish, battling strong winds and family loyalty, Hannah and Devlin wonder if winning each other wouldn’t be the greatest win of all…

Devlin has known Hannah since they were children. When she comes to him about her father, he tells her the truth. Until that moment he had not considered her as an attractive woman, and now he can’t unthink it.
Hannah is madder than ever about what has happened to her Dad. She figures if she gets Devlin involved there may be a solution. Unfortunately, there is more to the story. On top of that, is her attraction she cannot deny for Devlin.
This story is more of a slow burn. There is a lot of action, and the pace is rather steady. These characters already know each other well but it is a lot of fun to see that grow into more. I cannot wait to see where this series will go.

Devlin by Barbara Freethy is Book 1 in the 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes Series which is about 7 brothers written by multiple authors and for me this is a very exciting concept. Barbara Freethy is a new author to me but if this book is anything to go by I need to check out her other works.
Devlin is running the Blackthornes boat building business and he loves everything about his job but his father frustrates him when he insists on interfering in the day to day running and when he fires the boat builder and designer who has worked for them for years Devlin can’t understand why…
Hannah is back in town because she wants to get to the bottom of why her father was terminated and she is determined to give Devlin a piece of her mind. Both Devlin and Hannah are struggling to get to the bottom of what went on between their fathers and the more time they spend talking the more they realise they both have feelings for each other but Devlin is not ready for a relationship and Hannah lives in a different State so can they make it work will one of them be prepared to move …..
This book unfolds very quickly as Devlin and Hannah butt heads while trying to work out what’s going on, it’s a well written romantic read that has just the right mix of passion and angst. I loved this couple and I loved that we got an insight into the other brothers without them taking over this story. This is a great start to the series and I can’t wait to read book 2 in the series.
This is a great “take me away” book—perfect for summer. I enjoyed the entire book. The interaction between Devlin and Hannah was great from them getting reacquainted to romance. As an older reader, I like that the storyline includes characters of all ages. I especially liked the grandmother, Fiona, with her wisdom and frankness. I also liked seeing the relationships between the two fathers and their children. The outcome of the race was a perfect ending to the book. Barbara did an outstanding job of starting the series off! She did an excellent job of introducing us to all of the other Blackthorns that will be featured in the upcoming books from the other authors. I’m looking forward to reading all of their stories.
Coming back to Maine to confront the one person who can get her father’s job back is the only thing Hannah has on her mind. But confronting Jason Blackthorne turns into so much more when sparks instantly fly. Unfortunately, Jason is stuck between his families drama and wanting to win the yearly sailing competition – which Hannah and her father also want to win. Can they put the competition behind them or will it be the one thing that kills the relationship before it can really begin. With great characters and a fabulous storyline this book was a joy to read. I cannot wait for more in this series.
4 Star Review of Devlin (7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes # 1) by Barbara Freethy
Barbara Freethy is a relatively new author to me. This is book one in an exciting new series from multiple authors and is Devlin and Hannah Reid’s book. I was intrigued when I read about the Blackthorne men and the dynamic surrounding this family.
This is a well written, romantic and passionate read that held my attention from the start and I enjoyed Barbara Freethy’s writing style.
The characters were intriguing and the complexity as Devlin and Hannah’s story evolved was interesting. I loved how they appeared to be on opposite sides of the fence but neither could ignore the pull of attraction between them. Both are loyal to their families, although Devlin is angry and frustrated by his father’s interference in their business.
Will Devlin and Hannah be able to overcome the hurts of the past? Can Devlin convince Hannah to stay and give their blossoming relationship a chance?
A great start to what I feel will be an exciting new series.
An amazing kick off to the start of the Blackthorne series! There was sizzling chemistry between Devlin and Hannah, along with an introduction to the rest of the Blackthorne family, plus we got a look at the tension that was building behind the family scenes of the two Blackthorne patriarchs. Everything to love about a family series was put into this first novel and I’m really looking forward to reading more about the rest of the family.
Devlin is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Even though Devlin manages his own business he does so while working under the ownership of his father, Graham Blackthorne. So when his father makes the decision to fire the lead boat maker/designer, Frank Reid, without consulting Devlin, it ultimately puts him in a tough spot when Frank’s daughter Hannah shows up on his doorstep to chew him out.
Both Hannah and Devlin realize they are both stuck in the middle of a feud between their hard-headed fathers, one that neither seem to make much headway on. While their fathers might not get along, it is clear that Hannah and Devlin have great chemistry together, one that gets harder and harder to ignore the more time that they spend together.
Hannah is only supposed to be in town for a few weeks, helping her father through his rough patch. Devlin isn’t so sure he likes the idea of her leaving town if he can actually get Frank’s job reinstated, but he also knows it’s the right thing to do. Being noble isn’t always easy, especially when it includes matters of the heart.
Hannah left town years ago, but coming back has felt more like home than where she’s lived since she left. Is she going to be ready to leave if her dad gets his job back and more importantly is she going to be able to walk away from the one man who has touched her heart in a very long time?
Welcome to the Blackthorne family. The summer series is just beginning and it is heating up to be a fantastic read.
This is such a great book!
I truly enjoyed reading it!
Devlin & Hannah, have not seen each
other for years, till she came home
to check on her father. The first conversation they had was pretty explosive.
But their undeniable attraction & spending time together, may change that.
It’s a engaging, sexy & moving romance.
Devlin & Hannah, steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
It has the small town charm & the comfort of family. Look forward to reading the other books in this fabulous new series. I loved everything about this Must Read Story!!!
Devlin is the first book in the new 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes series written by various authors. Barbara Freethy is one of my favorite authors. I have loved her suspense stories for years. Devlin is a change for me. Even though it isn’t a suspense novel, other than the tension created by the family dynamics of the two families in the story, it was so well written that I couldn’t put it down. The characters were well-developed and the story held my interest from beginning to end.
I recommend Devlin to anyone who loves a good contemporary romance. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
This is a great start to a new multi-author series. Devlin is head of the Boatworks, boat-building company owned by the Blackthorne. Hannah returns to King Harbor to help her father, boat designer and critical employee at Boatworks, until he’s suddenly fired. Hannah and Devlin begin as adversaries, but they soon realized that the sparks between them are anything but adversarial! Passion, competition, family relationships, renewed friendships, and chemistry bring Devlin and Hannah together. A heartwarming book full of emotion and passion, and a bit of a secret to follow through the series – another winner by Batbara Freethy and an engrossing start to the series. I loved it!
This is the first part of a new series by a bunch of great authors. A strong family with strong men. What’s not to like. I loved this first book. I love Barbara’s writing and how she creates a world for her characters that will intrigue and fascinate right to the last page. Devlin is the heart of the Blackthorne family Boat company and Hannah is the daughter of Devlin’s main boat designer and builder. When Hannah rushes to her father after he loses his job she gets more than she bargained for. Sparks fly and her love of the ocean, sailing and her rebuilt relationship with her father make her want to stay. Add in her attraction to Devlin and she just might. A great story with great characters. I can’t wait to read the others.
Loved this first book in the series 7 Brides for 7 Blackthornes. Great read had drama, romance and family loyalty. Can’t wait for the second book in series.
The first in this newest series, which includes 7 different authors, each writing about a different Blackthorne. A major misstep, by an old friend, lands two people in an intense, new relationship. Past relationships, light steam and romance lead a race to the end of this first book. Good read. Add this to your TBR list.
