It’s hard to make friends with the other women at the Icehome camp when you’d rather be dissecting the local fauna. Which is why I’m surprised when one of the big, brawny islanders asks me to help him make a prosthetic leg. I don’t know N’dek, but since I’m a scientist, he wants my help. And while I’m more into dinosaurs than anatomy, I love a challenge. As we work together, I come to see that … see that N’dek’s not just clever and determined, he’s also protective and sweet. And he kisses like a fiend.
He’s a distraction I don’t need…but he might be everything I’ve ever wanted. Too bad he says he’s going to resonate to someone else.

I’ve pretty much enjoyed all of the Icehome characters and pairings thus far, but this couple is definitely my newest favorite! I love Devi’s attitude (such a welcome relief after Hannah!), her intelligence, and curiosity. I was also SO happy to see N’dek finally break out of his funk and start moving forward with his life. That they ended up together was delightful. I also enjoyed the small friendships that they both developed with others.
Ruby Dixon is killing it with the Icehome series. She is bringing her ‘A game’ and it shows in this wonderful intertwined, spin-off series. If you have been following my reviews then you know how much I adore Ruby and her writing. Aliens have never had so much appeal until she began writing her take on them.
(I think this one is my new favorite.)
Devi was a college student when she was abducted by aliens. She talks about how dedicated she was to her schooling and how it upset her grandmother. She was suppose to be getting married and be having children while she was young. Her career needed to wait. Luckily, she made the right decision not going down that path because now, like I said, she has been abducted. Staying positive on a new planet isn’t easy, but she has found her niche dissecting the local wildlife – to her new friends’ horror. She’s an outsider, but she isn’t willing to stop doing the one thing she loves just to fit in.
N’dek was literally just a bump on a log. He sat around the fire constantly until his pal ran off with his mate, leaving him with no one to drag him around. He just sits and listens to everyone talk about the games they will be competing in. It is suppose to help relieve some of the tension and build some stronger friendships. But how can he even participate without his leg. That’s when he gets the crazy idea to make a prosthetic. There is only one person that is smart, and quiet, enough to help him – Devi.
It has been a while since I had really swooned after one of Ruby’s barbarians. Well, N’dek just broke dry spell for me. He’s lovely. I really loved how much he loved Devi.
Devi is so filled with joy, with a love of life. I need that. I want that. I feel whole when I am near her.
It might be many turns of the moons before my khui wakes, if it ever does. Until then. . . I want Devi. And I do not care if that is wrong.
“But I would rather have you for one day than regret it for all of them.”
Totally swoon-worthy, right?
While N’dek brings all the feels, Devi brings all the laughs.
And there’s Bridget and A’tam. They flirted, they slept together, and now he thinks they’re married and she thinks he should die in a fire.
You’ve seen porn. You saw Game of Thrones. This is just another penis.
You put the two of them together and it is magical. This is a must read if you love paranormal romances – or just Ruby’s writing in general.
5 stars!

4 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
I really enjoyed the main characters & that there weren’t any real hiccups or relationship games between them other than the wait on resonance between them -spiking the worries. I liked that they were also above board & honest with each other & worked together really well to accomplish N’dek’s prosthesis issue. I was worried I might not like them in general from descriptions from previous books of them, with him seeming so angry & her a bit odd -with the creature dissecting on the beach. But I almost think they are my favorite couple so far. Definitely a great story. I think this can be read as a stand-alone, but would be better read in order to get all the nuances from all the people in the tribe. I also loved the cover art!
So if there was sunshine and rainbows on the ice planet….these two would be it. I honestly adored them…both of them. They are relationship goals all the way. N’Dek goes to her for help with his leg, she makes him a prosthetic ice planet style, so that he can get around and feel better about himself. They have hunter games, he gets to participate and actually does quite well, thanks to her help, her support and his confidence. They really just have some sweet and sexy courting time before they actually resonate, they keep it cleanish since they don’t know who they will resonate to. Seriously, I don’t know that I like a couple better than these two. Serious relationship goals.
Totally safe read, they are both virgins….awwwweeeee, I know right. Sunshine and rainbows my reading peeps. So dang sweet. I am going to go ahead and call dibs on N’Dek, absolutely loved him and Devi is just as adorable. These two were relationship goals all the way. They liked each other from the start and they embraced their resonance…made me so dang happy that there was no nonsense. A lot of our new favorite characters and some of the new characters that our not our favorites. Finally Bree-sh*t redeems herself, well enough where I am not quite so upset with her. Whew…thankful for that. There was an epilogue and an hea. And per always…I want more. Love this book crack series so much and I always want more.
Really liked there character of Devi. could relate to her. Really sweet story.
Loved the underdog heroes! This is a story that will keep you invested to the end. N’Dek is understandably depressed and just the saddest caveman/alien in the universe, and he was angry at himself because it made him feel like he was a burden to his clan brothers. Devi is the brainy outsider who picks at dead things. I would never have thought to put them together, but dang, now that they are, I can’t see anything but the sense in the two outsiders teaming up. I loved the tension, scared of connecting, fearing the resonance would choose someone else. Reading about how they found their places and their journey there was rewarding, and I read through the book in one sitting.
I always love when I get to return home to the Ice Planet. There is something that is just so fun and enjoyable about these books, even when they tackle serious topics.
The main characters in this one were such a breath of fresh air. Devi tends to stick to herself. She easily gets lost in her thoughts. And her mind is going a million miles an hour here on her brand new planet. She is fascinated by everything around her and can’t wait to take it all apart to learn even more. N’dek has been down and grumpy since he lost his leg back on the Island. He struggles to see his worth when he has to rely on those around him to get anywhere. That is until he has the idea that he can fashion himself a leg and approaches Devi for help.
I think part of what had me loving this story so much was that I could see bits of myself in both characters. Like Devi I often get so absorbed in what I am doing that I don’t pay attention to some of that practical stuff surrounding me. Like her I am too excited about what I am discovering to need to bother with anything else. Like N’dek, I have questioned my worth now that my body is not whole. Yes, I have all of my limbs… but still my body doesn’t work right. For 5 years now I have been on modified bedrest. And when your ability to do every day things that others don’t think twice about is taken from you it can be a struggle to remember how much worth you still have to offer. Your life has been flipped on its head. Watching N’dek come back into himself and begin to realize that his friends did not see him as a burden but rather as strong and mighty just warmed my heart.
Devi and N’dek had a slow burn romance. They started as friends and couldn’t fight their attraction to each other. But no worries when it heats up, it burns!
To say I love the Icehome series would be an understatement! I was up reading until almost 3 am. I was definitely distracted by N’dek!! N’dek lost his leg in a dangerous hunting accident. Ever since, he’s been quite depressed. But, he gets it into his head that he’s going to resonate soon and he’s inspired to build a new leg. He was told Devi is the smartest human. Devi is a scientist and she’s amazed by this new world. She looks forward to each new day’s discoveries. She discreetly gathers materials for a prosthesis and immediately endears herself to N’dek. They are the perfect pair! His intensity balances her joy of life. But will N’dek resonate to Devi??
I loved this one! It has kind of a slow burn romance that develops into a fire. Devi’s Distraction is a superb addition to the Icehome series! 4.5 stars
Devi has always been the odd one of the humans ( and the one I was most interested in learning more about). She is fascinated by the world and creatures around her. I love her drive to learn about this new ecosystem. She misses her old life but she doesn’t let that cloud her new life at Icehome.
N’dek and Devi together were perfect. Devi give N’dek back his confidence and will to live with a prosthetic. N’dek may not always understand Devi and her fascination with dissecting creatures but he continues to support her.
Overall, I really enjoyed this couple and look forward to the next Icehome novel.
