“You think I’m a hooker?”The fiercely brooding guy I met at the bar needed to check his asshole behaviour. Still, he fast turned into the distraction I needed from my life. But it wasn’t romance. Couldn’t be. Running was my MO. This time I’m hiding in paradise, hoping I can stay alive, and trying to ignore the one person I’ve never been able to — my brother. The problem is, I didn’t know who Nate … know who Nate Cane really was, and I didn’t know what was coming for me either.
“You try it again, and I’m done.”
That’s what I said to my brother when he challenged me. I meant every damn word. This time it’s my rules. My life. My game.
Screw loyalty.
But the woman I met at that bar hid her devious eyes from me. She wasn’t who I thought, and life has a way of determining your future, no matter the odds. Gabriella Alves might have started as a calculated fling — dirty, far from innocent, and mine — but then hell came after her and invaded my world. And a Cane always protects what’s his.
Odds be damned.
Loyalty. Family. Dark. Erotic. Romance.
This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ only.

Devious Eyes is the second book in the Cane series.
This is Gabriella “Gabby” Alves & Nate Cane’s story.
We get to read more about Quinn & Emily (Nate’s brother & Emily, Nate’s soon to be SIL). They were the lead characters in Book one, Innocent Eyes.
Let me just say there is an emotional and heavy scene & possible trigger point in this story. But, what a story it is! I don’t know how Gabby lived through what she did. Who needs a brother like Gabby has, not me that for sure. Everything was fun and games until something bad happens.
Gabby has some amazing talents, she is a diamond thief. And, Nate is the financial guru and is second in charge after Quinn his older brother. These brothers Quinn & Nate fight hard but, I think they love hard too.
The writing duo Charlotte E. Hart & Rachel De Lune write seamlessly and are a good match for writing this book. I enjoyed reading this book and hope to look forward to more of their writing together!
Okay, so I have to say I enjoyed the first book, “Innocent Eyes.” I didn’t give anything major away in the review I wrote and I won’t in this one either. But I do have to say that there is a significant scene in the first book that becomes a concern in this one. And I have to say that it bothered me at times that Nate acted the way he did towards Emily. She wasn’t in this book so she couldn’t even defend herself, and I found Quinn to be almost a different character than the hardass he was in his book.
So, on to Devious Eyes. Nate meets his match in Gabby. A diamond thief and in this life herself she is hiding out from a job gone wrong when she meets Nate on vacation. These two have instant chemistry, but with all the history they are hiding from each other, will they be able to get past them?
There are twists, turns, and a new player in the game with the Canes when you read this book. I enjoyed the story between Nate and Gabby. They are a great match. But again when the past is brought up, or Quinn enters, I had mixed feelings on how Nate dealt with it. But that is my problem.
this story. i ve got no words on how to explain this story other then OMG must read this amaizig story as it will take you up and down and twist you all up. this is a dark read that will have you on the edge of your set and will need more of this dark read that will draw you in from the very first wordstell the very ending.
I loved Devious Eyes so much more than Innocent Eyes but I didn’t think I would at first.
It took me about 25% into the book to actually like Gabby, I really struggled to connect with her but eventually, I did. I really liked how strong she was and although she didn’t want to accept the help she did when Nate practically forced her to accept it. I felt she had many highs and lows during this book at one point in the book she was feeling strong and nothing can touch her and then by the end she knew she needed help and was more than happy to rely on Nate and need Nate.
Nate was an interesting character nothing like Quinn was. Although Nate was very calculated being an accountant and wanting to know everything every step of the way but he had a very soft and caring side and I loved the balance of both of these sides. There were only a few times when you saw him lose his cool and that’s when Gabby was in danger.
I loved their relationship it completely started out as just sex and then it changed and developed during the process of this book. The connection they felt, but also the anger and attraction at times it drew them together. The emotions and feelings they both felt for each other, it was so cute. I loved their relationship and honestly, they were hilarious at times and I still think out of the whole of this book my favourite is when he calls her a hooker! I also found it slightly amusing that she uses it later in the book.
The book was written really well I love this dynamic duo, I loved how they write and how they work together. I think I should read one of their books each and see what I think then. The sex scenes between Nate and Gabby were written really well.
This wasn’t as dark as I expected it to be, at least not until the end it got a bit darker it was very light until that point then it kind of hits you with that darkness.
I don’t want to say much about the plot other than Gabby is involved with diamonds and is hiding. I think it’s best going into this not really knowing much about it, which is what I do with the majority of these books.
I loved seeing the relationship of Quinn and Nate more in this book their dynamic as brothers it was very interesting combination and you could tell Quinn in his own way was trying to protect Nate. I loved their bond as it grew and developed in this book and they were willing to die for each other.
The book gave me so many feels and I fell in love with this story and I can’t wait for the next Cane novel! It’s been setting the book up great!
Some advice from me – please make sure you have read and remembered the events that happen in Innocent Eyes (book one). I don’t always remember all the details of every book I have read and I found that after a couple of chapters of Nate’s POV, I was confused and needed to re-read some of the first book to remind me what had been going on.
This book had me hooked from the very first chapter. I have a real soft spot for Nate Cane and I can’t see that changing anytime soon. I read through most of the night because I just had to know what was going to happen and even when I tried to put my kindle down to get some sleep, I just picked it straight back up again. I don’t care that I’m tired today…. it is totally worth it!!
I know there will be a third book and I think this second book has guided the Cane’s to a situation of what I can envisage will make another amazing story. I am absolutely loving this series. The characters, the story lines and the emotions that these books are bringing out in me all equate to fabulous five star reads that I would recommend without a second thought.

I had the pleasure of reviewing the first Cane Novel, Innocent Eyes, and it introduced me to Charlotte E. Hart and Rachel De Lune. Devious Eyes was another great read by this duo and it held me captive.
Nate travels to multiple places to put distance between himself and his brother, Quinn. While in Bora Bora he meets Gabby who makes him feel things he has never felt before. Gabby is hiding out in Bora Bora after a deal goes south and she flees with millions of dollars worth of diamonds.
With every turn of the page, I wondered when Gabby would be caught and by who. Needless to say, I was on the edge of my seat. There is no doubt that Nate has very strong feelings for Gabby as the story progresses. Nate is just like Quinn in a lot of ways. Ruthless being one of them. There is so much more to Devious Eyes though, so just read it!
Beware, there are triggers. So if you cannot handle it, do not read this book. You have been warned.
I was told this book could be read as a stand alone. After reading this book, I don’t agree. I feel too much background information is missing.I have a rule to give every book until chapter 10 before giving up on the book. This book tested my limits, thankfully picking up speed after chapter seven. Nate and Gabby are both on much needed Holiday in Bora Bora each for their own reasons although both reasons include each of their brothers. While on this Holiday they run into each other in the hotel bar and things heat up. It is at this point that this book picks up some speed and this is where I was drawn into the story. Gabby is a diamond thief kind of on the run from a drop gone bad. Nate is estranged from his brother. Gabby and Nate agree to first names and no personal information. A sex only fling but as things heat up feelings come out. Gabby is pressured into returning home by her brother and she leaves in the middle of the night. This confuses and pisses off Nate. He leaves the following day to return to his home but Gabby never leaves his thoughts or his heart. As I said this book took a while to bring me in but I feel if I read the first book this would not have happened. Please read book one before this second book.

This story had a very slow build, and was not as intensely dark as book 1 in this series. This was a much sweeter and sexier read but still had an edge of suspense and darkness which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Nate and Gabby have an explosively passionate summer fling that develops quickly into something more. The character development and writing was excellent and seamless, it flowed really well from one character to the other.
I had trouble connecting with the story and characters at times and it makes me ache to say that at all when I absolutely love the world that these two authors have created. My main issue was the pacing being slower than I would have liked, and a slight repetitiveness towards the middle of the story. The depth character development and world building was excellent, but I felt that the level of action and intrigue in the story didn’t balance out with this.
Always a Cane…
Devious Eyes is the second book in the Cane series. I liked the storyline but I wasn’t in love. The banter between Nate and Gabby was funny at times but just a little annoying. It was hard for me to see how the love developed between thief and a Cane. Was it in paradise? I’m not quite sure.
I was happy that the secondary characters, Quinn and Emily, were included. Quinn unlike Nate understood what being a Cane truly meant. It took forever for the brothers to start working together. Nate was running away from who he is and where he came from. Quinn was trying to be a Cane and not seeking any help from his brother. The confrontations among families and the action with enemies was never ending. The way the book ended, I keep wondering if there will be a Cane #3. Who knows? I know that the life isn’t done with the Canes.
This book was another amazing Cane story! Nate wasn’t broody like Quinn was in Innocent Eyes, but he’s got his own kind of deep intensity. He can be sweet, but he can also be that fiercely protective alpha that Gabby needed. Gabby was in trouble, but she was tough enough to handle herself, although she needed Nate more than she thought. Their chemistry sizzled, and I loved the suspense factor that kept me biting my nails. Fantastic and captivating!
De Lune and Hart have collaborated once again to bring us another story that has outshined the last. You can see how their writing styles have grown in this second book.
This is a brilliant addition to the Cane Brothers Series. It has everything you come to love from these writers. Suspense from Hart and the softer side from De Lune.
In this series we meet up with Nate and Gabby. If you thought Quinn was hot from innocent eyes, he has nothing on Nate.
I can’t wait for more to come from this pair. I can only see the stories getting better as they grow as writers.
I thought the first book in this series, Innocent Eyes was fantastic and didn’t think anything could top it but this one totally did. I love Nate and Gabriella’s story so very much, from the beautiful romance to the hard hitting darkness that I come to expect from the teamwork that is Hart and De Lune. The blend of dark and light is so stunning it leaves you breathless. The way they lull you into a false sense of security before ripping the rug from under your feet is spectacular and even though I knew this book was going to be one hell of a rollercoaster I was still so of surprised by where they took Gabby and Nate. Now I need to know what is going to happen next so if you wouldn’t mind Charlotte and Rachel could we have the next instalment now please? 😉
This book was SO good, I did not want to put it down! There was a real conflict between this book and my job…I didn’t want to stop reading to go to work!
It was really fun in parts, with a feel almost of a cat burglar or high stakes heist movie. But it also had some pretty dark sections too, with one or two scenes that some might find triggering. It was dark, fast paced, fun and sexy, at varying points in time. I can’t wait to read what’s coming next!
Hart and DeLune have done it again! Nate and Gabby’s story will leave you gasping, breathless and in need of more from this duo!! Suspenseful thrill ride, this book will have you on the edge of your seat! I suggest caution when reading as there are situations and incidents that may cause triggers.
My mind is blown: like totally.
I really didn’t think anything for me could top the first in this series “Innocent Eyes” but “Devious Eyes” actually went above and beyond: words fail me this was in a nutshell: totally epic and I devoured every decadent morsel reading this in practically one sitting which in my opinion is always the sign of some superior fiction.
“Devious Eyes” is the second collaboration in the Cane series written by the talented duo of Hart and De Lune and once again they have smashed it: totally hitting the ball right outside the park.
My expectations obliterated in one fell swoop: I am suitably impressed here folks.
So back with the Canes and this time we get to experience Nates story in all its unapologetic glory as he finds and traverses the battleground of his love life after taking an unexpected sabbatical to his own island paradise.
So after some brotherly inter-fighting sends Nates running for the hills he unexpectedly finds himself falling for Jewel thief Gabby who herself is in hiding after a deal back home goes south.
Both determined to indulge in just a holiday fling it isn’t very surprising when our lover’s emotions start to make an appearance.
But with such an ocean of lies to overcome this was most certainly not going to be easy sailing and when the crap hits the fan lets just say this pairs lives are more closely connected than even they could have imagined.
The romance itself here seemed to have a much more romantic flavour than its predecessor with Nate much more willing to open himself up to his lighter side almost accessible to the concept of a much deeper connection than his brother ever was.
That’s not to say Nate doesn’t act like a complete tool he is a Cane after all and the apple doesn’t really fall far from the tree but compared to his brother he was practically a breath of fresh air.
And Gabby herself is such a resilient girl: because of her beginnings and family she has had to adapt like a chameleon and as a consequence has forged her own path in life separate to that of her brother.
These two individuals: both used to standing in the shadow of there sibling are more than a match for each other: complementing and reflecting each other strengths and weaknesses.
So you cant have shades of light without its counter opposite and the dark here when it comes is pitch: there are deep triggers here that don’t make for easy reading.
But it’s only with these portrayals of depravity that we eventually get to witness and realise the true depth of Gabby’s inner reserves: she really does manage to come into her own with this stark portrait and her ability to overcome the brutal situation she had endured so bravely.
We also get to catch up with Quinn and Emily (more Quinn) which was certainly an added bonus and Quinn was in usual good form here it seems only Em gets to experience this tossers sweeter side.
He frankly behaves like a bit of an ass here: reverting to type.
Also if you want my take on things you would be better off reading these in order to get the most out of things here.
So that’s about it: I have no issue whatsoever recommending “Devious Eyes” to you it was a fantastic experience that gets a massive thumbs up from moi.
I voluntary reviewed an Arc of Devious Eyes (A Cane Novel 2)
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Another stunning collaboration by Hart and De Lune! Seamlessly written, page turner of a story. The Canes continues on with Nate in the forefront, he’s sexy, demanding, volatile, a Cane through and through. He meets his match in Gabriella, a beautifully stunning thief, witty, charming, devious and Nates perfect match in all ways. The sex is panty melting hot. This book is filled with intrigue, violence and Quinn being his infuriating self. Bring on the next one ladies!
Another amazing collaboration by these two authors. These characters came to life for me and their chemistry with each other was fantastic. With Gabby running after getting involved in one of her brothers operations, Nate walking away after his brother Quinn getting on his last nerve. These two meet in Bora Bora, and what seems like a fascinating holiday fling quickly turns into e, especially when once they get back to their real life, it seems that Gabby brother may have made some serious enemies.
As always these writers have you on the edge of your seat and this was a brilliant addition to the Cane family book. A must read.

Another amazing read from this fantastic, talented writing duo! I wasn’t sure they could top Innocent Eyes, I mean come on Quinn was just amazing to read about and Nate I’ll be honest I wasn’t so sure about. I was worried I would get that raw, dark, grittiness that I got from Quinn’s story but I was so, so wrong! Whilst he isn’t as ‘dark’ as Quinn he does have a different but equally as appealing quality about him that makes you think there is so much more to him than you originally thought. I’m going to go even as far as to say that Nate may have just pushed Quinn off the top spot in the Cane Brothers competition! He was kind, caring, and level headed but he had that fierce protectiveness that clearly runs in the Cane family. With every great male main character there has to be an equally as good female, Quinn had Emily; Nate has Gabby and what a female lead she was! She was strong in her own right, she had her own secrets, she had her own family issues to deal with but when she and Nate were together they just lit the story on fire! I loved every second of their story, from their very first meeting until the end of the story I was captivated by the two of them.
Alongside the amazing characters we have the beautiful setting that some of the story takes place in, the authors really brought this story to life with their beautiful descriptions of Bora Bora, and I almost felt like I was right there relaxing with these characters!
The differing writing styles that these two authors have really do complement each other well, so much so that unless you have read their separate work it’s hard to tell who has written which chapter.
Oh and there’s book 3 to look forward too! Bring it on!!! #CaneBrothersForever
Another astonishing book by two flawless authors. This book deserves so much more than 5 stars, but alas, 5 is all I can give. Nate is… The cane brothers are impeccable. I need one! There’s so much about this book that I love,.so I’m not going to drone on and on, but I will say, read it and fall in love with the world of Cane, just like I did.
Devious Eye by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune is book Two in A Cane Series. This is the story of Nate and Gabby. You can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Nate is taking a break from the family business where he is the second in command and the financial brains of the business. While away he happens to meet Gabby and they set out of a short vacation type affair. But then she sneaks out during one of their nights which left Nate wanting her back. Where Nate thought his heart was harden Gabby has somehow made some cracks in it. But he only has her first name can he or his family find her? Gabby is on the run and she knows you can’t put down roots for long…not even when your feelings might not want you to run.
I enjoyed this first book a lot but think this might be my favorite of the two….for sure it has made me want to find books by the authors.
