Rancher, Marshall Boyer is still angry over the death of the woman he loved and wants nothing to do with woman or love, but when a mysterious woman drops into his life, barefoot, broke and running scared, he can’t let her go. Emmaline Katz is an artist with a dangerous secret and she’s on the run from a ruthless criminal who exploited her for years. Out of money and options, she finds an unlikely have with a handsome cowboy but time is running out and cold-blooded killer has to come town.
This story is an amazing love story with some unique elements that really makes it stand out. Marshall and Emma has some seriously electrical chemistry but have some seriously gut wrenching emotional angst that has them holding back from each other and readers really can’t help but become caught up in their lives as this hero and heroine captures their hearts. The overwhelming innocence and courage of the heroine also causes readers to shed a few tears so have plenty of tissues nearby but don’t worry, Marshall’s protection and growing attraction for Emma balances everything out very nicely producing smiles.
The suspense builds throughout this fast paced and keeps readers glued to the pages with lots of excitement and hair raising chills as more of Emma’s life comes to light. The author also gave the heroine a refreshingly different psychic gift that adds spice and variety to the story as well as upping the danger and thrills. This story is one that engages readers from the very beginning and then dares them to put the book down.
**I received a copy of Devil’s Way out from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions expressed below are mine and not solicited in any way**
Devil’s Way Out by Nika Dixon is the first in what hope will be a series of the people of Absolution, MT after all I feel that both Danny Boyer, Bailey and Sam should have their happily every afters. The ending will have you in giggles with how Devil the horse, Drift, Sam’s dog and Tinkerbell the cat meet Emma at the pond.
What if you were kept prisoner in a Penthouse because you have a gift of not only drawing but the ability to draw the future? Plus Alan exploits Emmaline Katz abilities as well as killing anyone who would try to take her away. So when she’s able to run away from him and his two goons, Emma will meet Georgie who escapes once a month from her assisted living home and loves to borrow cars for joy rides. But neither women can drive and will crash the car which leads to meeting the Boyer boys and the folks of Absolution, MT. Can Emma finally experience everything she’s always wanted to like going to the mall shopping with a pre-teen? Will Marshall ever convince Emma to wear shoes or will she always be walking barefoot? I guess you’ll have to read the book to find out all the answers.
The last thing Marshall Boyer needs is a mysterious woman who is running from someone dangerous that will soon have his dad, Hank, niece Lilly and the town falling in love her drawings plus her not of being able to do things most people take for granted. His heart still aches from the loss of his city girlfriend. Soon the men she’s running from will find her and it will take every one of Danny’s deputies to find both Emma and Lilly before it’s too late
Devil’s Way Out by Nika Dixon a five-star read that you won’t want to get out from. This was sublime, I wasn’t sure what to expect as I don’t always like a cowboy romance but had heard good things about this one so thought why not. Do you know what it was so much more, it surprised me with the depth and drama and just the mystery of the story. I don’t know what to write as I really don’t want to give the game away, there is so much going on in this story and what an amazing town Absolution is, I would love to hear more from this place as there is so much going on. This is one of those stories that you think goes one way and then it goes another and you love it.
Fun!
We have Emma and Marshall, he’s a rancher just barely living his life in his ranch with his family; and she’s a lost girl he and his brother find after a car accident.
To say she’s intriguing is putting it lightly, guys. She’s kind and lovely and overall a mysterious woman. I loved Emma like whoa, and the paranormal aspect of this was great. Obviously I can’t tell, but it weaves perfectly with the mystery of her and bad guys and all the action that happens here.
I loved this, and it was more than I was expecting. I hope the author continues with this, ‘cause it would make a fun series.

Devil’s Way Out by Nika Dixon
I loved, loved, LOVED this book. It had so much to offer! There was a woman on the run, her mysterious past, her drawing skill, men and animals that seemed taken with her, an evil man chasing her and another man that might be her safe place to land.
I loved Emmaline, the woman on the run…everything about her resonated with me. I was so hoping she would find a happy ending after so much time in a horrible situation. She was a very special person. I loved the animals that fell for her and would do literally anything to keep her safe. The Boyer brothers and their father – stalwart and true blue through and through. I would love to hear more about Sheriff Danny Boyer and also about the men that are in his department…Sam and Bailey might need stories of their own along with Danny. Evil Alan so deserved to be thwarted and I couldn’t wait to see how it would happen…and I was not disappointed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read more by this author – first book I have read by her but it won’t be the last.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Entangled Published via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This author is new to me and I just have to say that I so thoroughly enjoyed this book. There was just so much going on that I couldn’t put it down. The last 15 years for Emmaline (Emma) had been so difficult. She escaped her life in the city and along the way ended up in Absolution. Marshall rescues her from a ditch. Marshall has returned to the family ranch after being away for a year. He came back heartbroken. These two come together in a wonderful tale that is just filled with heartbreak and tears. Their journey is filled with mad-man, an arsonist, a love-sick horse (and a dog and cat) and Emma’s special gift.
The characters were well developed and the story was intriguing. I adored the dual POV format. I understood both characters a lot better with this kind of format. The secondary characters were fascinating as well. I hope there are more stories to be had in Absolution (especially Danny’s and Sam’s)
I highly recommend this story to anyone over 18+. There is a bedroom scene, that while not overly graphic, it may be offensive to some.
A wonderful story. Marshall rescues Emma from a wreck and she ends up rescuing his heart. A small town story filled with intrigue and danger. Emma’s character is complex and fascinating. The author designed the plot twists to heighten the uniqueness of her talents. She is truly pure and good which makes her a great addition to the small to setting and the Boyer family. The animals are a great addition to the story as well.
Although the summary was intriguing, I had no idea what to expect from this book or this author. I am so glad that I was chosen to receive this book…it is GREAT! The characters, the story, the danger, the romance – this book has it all! When artist Emmaline Katz is able to escape from the restrictive-life she has led for the past fifteen years, she ends up in rural Montana. She has no place to go, although she is heading west with no money and no friends. Rancher Marshall Boyer distrusts Emma at first as he knows she is a city girl and he has already had enough heartache from a former relationship. Emma, without even trying, charms everyone she comes in contact with – strangers, children, horses, dogs and even the cat. When danger follows her to Montana, seeking the hidden talent that she possesses, she needs to leave. She does not want to bring harm to the people who have befriended her, but Marsh and his family will protect her no matter what it takes. I only hope Ms. Dixon has plans for stories about the wonderful secondary characters, Sheriff Danny, Lucy, Hank, Bailey, and Ethan. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
