Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. It had been years since I had seen her.Years since I last saw those eyes with pure, raw innocence. So much time had passed since I lusted after what I knew I should resist. But she was so right. And I was so wrong. To claim her as mine was breaking the rules. Boundaries should not be broken. But temptation weakens my resolve. With the pull of my dark desires… I … temptation weakens my resolve.
With the pull of my dark desires…
I know that I can’t hide from my sinful thoughts—and actions—forever.
*Devils & Rye is a dark billionaire romance. If you don’t like a splash of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of dirty, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

A deliciously taboo tale about a sinfully sweet romance
Alec -He was charged with her protection
Makayla – She was innocence personified
He shouldn’t – No, really he shouldn’t
Dm if I do – D if I don’t
This was a bit different than the rest of the series
It focuses on Alec and Makayla and their relationship
This is an Older man/Younger woman romance
This is a short read with the main characters romance going from a quick smolder to an all-encompassing flame
I would have liked more in this story – for me it felt like part of the story was missing
I found this to be a very sweet love story with just a touch of the twisted I enjoy so much
4 ” Spanking Stars”
…..And another one gets enticed!
The men of Spiked Roses drink Expensive Liquor and indulge in Expensive Pleasures. It’s Alec’s turn now. His tastes for Aged Rye and Kinky sex makes it an exhilarating read
Only he’s Uncle Alec now. What with his best friend and ex business partner, Rhett’s daughter, Makayla, coming in his club, seeking refuge. She’s not aware of it but the Iron Colts of Brotherhood have usurped her life. Both her father’s and her life has been decided, the verdict written in stone and put in the Ritual Jar.
The ritual is supposed to be symbolic of a society that thrived for decades. To demonstrate power, control, dark desires, and show that there is a price to pay for it all.”
The story is intoxicating, indeed !!
A heady cocktail of Forbidden Lust and violent charades, this is a dangerous game they are playing. The outcome is certain Death and Alex and Makayla, both sacrifice for each other happily.
I was going straight to hades. I shouldn’t be looking, but fudge if I could help it. she was hot. Smoking hot. Makayla. Sweet, innocent, little Makayla.
It kept me engrossed was a rapid read, very heavy on kinky fudgery .
Keep going Alta, lots of liquors still to be tasted and lots of spankings still to be done
MaKayla and Alec have known each other all of her life. Her father was overprotective, but doesn’t make good decisions for their lives. He sends MaKayla to Spiked Rose where Alec is to watch over her. They have to go to the lake house and MaKayla and Alec’s lives charge forever. The twist and turns in the book are unexpected. I love each book more and more each time a new one comes out on this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
*4.5 stars*
This series and author can be summed up with one word: sinful. It’s sinfully dark, sinfully delicious and most of all sinfully twisted.
Definitely accept going in that it’s going to be a dark read. Honestly, I thought the first part of the ritual could have been darker with everything leading up to it. That part didn’t quite meet my expectations. The chemistry between Alec and Makayla and the taboo relationship was perfect. This author knows how to bring it for dark romances. I did like her first two in the series more than the last two but I still think it is an amazing book. I give it 4.5 stars with the half star deduction being that it could have been longer and it didn’t quite fulfill the expectations it laid out. I definitely recommend it though!
Once again we visit Spiked Roses. This story is about Alec, an owner of Spiked Roses and an old friend of his Rhett and his daughter Makayla. Rhett sent Makayla to Spiked Roses and he wrote Alec a letter. The letter told him Alec and Makayla was in danger. Rhett would take care of things on his end and he asked Alec to protect Makayla. There’s a lot of steamy twists and turns in this storyline. Grab yourself a copy.. I voluntarily reviewed advanced copy of this book.
Loved this book and this series is great! I gave it 4.5 stars because I wasn’t super fond of how the ending went down. I love how we’re getting to see all of the owners of the Spiked Rose in this series. This Alec’s book. I’d start with book 1 as this is the 4th in the series.
I really have loved the Top Shelf Series and this is book 4 Devils & Rye. This is kind of a taboo romance. Alec is not Makayla’s biological Uncle but, she has known him as Uncle Alec for a long time. Also, Alec is her father’s best friend meaning that Alec is old enough to be her father.
I have really enjoyed the Top Shelf Series and I am hoping that this isn’t the last one in the series that Alta Hensley will come up with some more. Surely there’s more “top shelf” alcohol that can be written about.
Devils & Rye is the 4th book in the Top Shelf Series. Alta Hensley did have me on the edge of my seat worried that something would happen that I didn’t want to happen. I know that sounds so vague but, I don’t want to spoil the story for others. You will just have to read this book if you want to know more.
I was left wanting more from this story. I wish that this book ended a little differently. I felt the story just dropped from the ending. Other than that I loved the story and like I said earlier I am really hoping there will be more in this series. Or at least a spin off with now mixed drinks.
I give Devils & Rye 4 stars. Even if there are no more books in this series Alta Hensley is now an author that I will be following.
The fourth book in the Top Shelf series. It can be read as a stand alone. It features Alec and Makalya
This book has a whole different feel from the other books in the series. It takes place outside of the club and it starts pretty sweet and romantic. Makayla is very innocent, but also very funny and stubborn. Alec is torn between his feelings for Makayla, but his head is telling him other things.
It wouldn’t be an Alta Hensley book if you are lured into a false sense of safety and then everything turns and falls to pieces.
Alta Hensley has a new book out in her wildly hot Top Shelf series, Devils and Rye. This time around is Alec’s book. He gets a letter from an old business partner begging him to protect his daughter Makayla from a group that he belongs to, that Alec got out of a long time ago. Makayla’s life is in danger and he’s asking Alec to take her to safety.
Alec knows that this could mean death for his friend. He rushes 20 year old Makayla off to her families lake house, where they get close. But another letter comes and Makayla knows she needs to do something to save her father’s life, even if that means leaving the safety of Alec’s arms.
Alec and Makayla’s story is scorching hot! There are some scenes that are a bit difficult to read at times, but as always, Alta writes one mean happy ever after! And holy latin! (You’ll see what I mean!)
Devils & Rye by Alta Hensley is book 4 in the Top Shelf series. And this series is A MUST READ!!!
When Alec receives a letter from his old business partner to protect his daughter, Makayla he agrees to hire the innocent young woman. But circumstances change and Alec needs to get Makayla out of harms way.
Uncle Alec as Makayla knows him is 20 years older then her. Yet being together in a secluded cabin has made her have feelings unknown to her.
Alec and Makayla have an instant connection. And let me say watching them was exciting, and enticing! She’s everything Alec should not want, yet she’s everything he needs.
Devils & Rye has all feels. And is taboo AF!! I found myself once again captivated by the incredible world of the top shelf series. Alta Hensley has a way with her words to draw you completely into her storyline, and gives us these characters we ADORE!!! She continues to be a must read author for me. I highly recommend this series!!!
Devils & Rye by Alta Hensley is book Four in the Top Shelf Series. This is the story of Alec and Makayla. I haven’t yet read the other books but feel this can easily be a standalone book.
Alec is part owner in the Gentleman’s Club called Spiked Roses but he once was a business partner with Rhett back home. But when danger threaten Rhett left and started a new life and business that became Spiked Roses. Rhett chose to stay behind and they remained friends but now in the present day Rhett has sent his 20 year old daughter Makayla to his best friend Alec to keep her safe. Makayla knows him as Uncle Alec since she was a little girl, but the feeling of seeing Alec again are more thank little girl feelings. Alec too is attracted to Makayla but can he dishonor his friendship with pursing them and most importantly he needs to keep Makayla safe.
Exciting hot read!
We’re back at the Spiked Roses.
But not for long because Alec, resident co-owner has been sent a surprise guest by his old business partner. His daughter Makayla is supposed to work for Spiked Roses and “Uncle” Alec is supposed to watch over her.
But before she can even unpack Alec finds out that she is in imminent danger and they hightail it out of the city.
While staying at a secluded lake house, their relationship develops into something much more “adult” then their former roles.
When the outside threat escalates and Makayla takes matters into her own hands, the whole situation explodes and everything they wanted to avoid catches up with them.
In a very tense and dangerous standoff they have to rely on their wits alone to save their lives.
Will they make it?
Alta Hensley. Oh Alta. What can I say about Alta Hensley that I haven’t already said before? She writes books that are dark, delicious, and go down smooth. For me, it’s like the very, very best dark chocolate, rich, tasty, and almost black. And I’ll take that kind of chocolate any day.
Devils & Rye brings us back to Spiked Roses, the premier gentlemen’s club in New Orleans. You can go there to have a nice drink and look at the pretty girls, go there and get friendly with the pretty girls, or participate in a Tasting and play with a pretty girl. Spiked Roses has a very specific set of rules that members must follow, rules set down by the founding members and owners.
Alec, a very successful and powerful man, is one of those founding members. He came from Georgia, but left to get away from his past, and has made his life in NOLA now. When his best friend, Rhett, sent his lovely daughter, Makayla, to NOLA, he arranged for her Uncle Alec to watch over her while she worked at Spiked Roses. The problem is, on her very first day at work, Alec got a letter from Rhett telling him that she isn’t safe and that he needed to get her away and hide her at their special place, a house on a lake called Home.
Makayla has been hidden away and sheltered all her life by her father. At almost 21, she’s finally been freed and is able to go to NOLA. Of course, she still has to live under the watchful eye of Alec, but she still gets to have some life going on. Tennesee is getting her all dressed for her first night of training when Alec walks in on them with her dress around her waist, and hands her a letter from her father which tells her that she needs to run and hide with Alec so that she can be safe. But Makayla is worried about her father and isn’t always the most careful and cautious person out there, which can cause a lot of problems.
OMG, this book was steaming hot for so many reasons. I mean, we have a sneaky, nasty secret society that does sneaky, nasty, and dangerous things. We have a man who tries to be honorable. We have another man who thinks he’s a monster but doesn’t want to be. We have a young woman who ends up in over her head. We have all kinds of sexy and yummy sex, from sweet and gentle to not sweet and not gentle, and since we’re reading an Alta Hensley joint, there’s a whole lot of spanking. And lest we forget, there’s one very cold lake.
I lost myself in this book from the beginning to the end and had a hard time switching gears when I was finished. Alec and Makayla stuck around in my head, rattling around and having sex, which can be extraordinarily distracting, let me tell you. They are supposed to be Alta Hensley’s imaginary friends and talk in her head. I guess this means that I found them to be real, living, breathing people.
This is another one of those books I wish I could give a gazillion stars, because It really deserved it and I loved it. I was almost sad to finish reading it because that means I can never read it for the first time again.
I’ve really liked the other books in the series, but this one left me wanting something more. Or maybe less? There was a lot of angst from Alec about being older than Makayla, and a lot of build up to the secret society that was somewhat lacking. Also, more wine drinking than rye… Lol
Deliciously dark and dirty!
Alec is asked by his best friend, Rhett, to take Rhett’s daughter, Makayla, to the family’s hidden vacation home to keep her safe. Seems Rhett has some debts to pay and Makayla is one form of payment owed.
Makayla at first is a typical protected daughter, clueless to her father’s (and Alec’s) hidden affiliations that have set the stage for the life-and-death risks to them all. Once she realizes what’s at stake, however, she shows extraordinary courage and determination to solve the problem. Alec struggles a bit with his feelings for her, but the age gap quickly melts under the intense heat they share as they explore their changing relationship.
As with the rest of the books in this series, the sex scenes are super-hot and the depravity is never far behind. This story deals with a truly evil cabal that forces a showdown of sorts that is as dark and cruel as anything I’ve read. Those scenes are definitely not for the faint-at-heart.
The love story between Alec and Makayla is both swoony and heroic and I loved every bit of it. There’s a solid and satisfying HEA that makes it all worthwhile. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I was hooked from the first few pages. Secret societies… weird rituals… the kink….. and the unlikely couple who survive it all. This does have a happy ending.. but you’ve got to roll through some dirt and secret society rituals before they get there!
The past has a way of coming around and biting you in the butt. Alec, one of the co-owners of the Spiked Roses, found out the hard way when his honorary niece applied for a job and then he received a letter from her father begging him to hide her and keep her safe. Alta Hensley has done it again with “Devils and Rye,” sucking me in with a storyline so dark and gripping it had me on the edge of my seat. The dynamics between Alec and Makayla were so raw, so passionate, and sometimes so powerful it was easy to relate to them as individuals and as a couple. Thank goodness there’s another story because I’m not ready to let this world go yet.
This series just gets better! This is Alex and Makayla’s story – and what a story it is! Dark and twisted, but also full of love and heat. A page turner that will put you on the edge of your seat. Great job, Alta!
This story brings a whole new level to Spiked Roses and the gentlemen that run it. What we think is going to be a simple older man/younger woman story turns into so much more.
Makayla Knox is finally getting a life. Her father has let her move out and get a job at Spiked Roses. She is excited and so ready to become an adult. Her father has entrusted her “uncle” to watch over her and make sure she will be well taken care of and safe.
Makayla’s “uncle” is a family friend named Alec Shelton. He knew Maykayla when she was little and has not seen her in a long time. When her father gets a hold of Alec to asks for help to keep Makayla safe from a secret society that is very dangerous. But what happens when Makayla finds out that her father is willing to sacrifice himself for her? Is Alec ready to go back to his old life to protect her fully and walk her through saving Makayla’s father?
This story is all about what are you willing to sacrifice for love? Would you go through anything and everything for someone you love?
Fun to read
