NAMED OF THE BEST ROMANCES BY OPRAH MAG!Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a … charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself…as none other than West Ravenel.
West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire…not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.
Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?
Only the devil’s daughter knows…

Another excellent book by Lisa Kleypas and definitely my favorite so far from this series.
Been waiting so patiently!
There has not been one single book that Lisa Klepas has written that I haven’t loved over the years. Historicals were the only kind of romances I read for years and there have been so many wonderful ones but LK is a bigtime favorite. I mostly read contemporary romance now but I always wait in gleeful anticipation for her next book and am never disappointed when I finally get my hands them. She manages to combine scene stealing, truly laugh out loud wittiness, strong, unforgettable characters, both male and female, and steamy seductions that are anything but prim and proper! There have been a quite a few of her Hs that I fondly remember even years later. One in particular has been my all time historical hero and still is… Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent from LK’s Wallflower series, Devil in Winter. What a roguish, swoony, cool and aristocratic devil he was too, I LOVED him and his unexpected love, Evie. Their story was perfection!
Why would I mention all this??? Well, who do think the Devil’s Daughter might be? Yes, the Ravenel Series connects with the Wallflowers some years later and several of these books have a role for the devilish rogue, now the Duke of Kingston, Sebastian and his delightful family. Seeing him as a father and grandfather is a big old bonus for me.
Hopefully, if you are thinking of reading this book, you have already had the pleasure of meeting The Devil in Spring, Gabriel, the current Lord St. Vincent, heir to the Dukedom and fiancee Pandora Ravenel’s story since this book revolves around the circumstances of their wedding and the connection of their families. Phoebe is Gabriel’s widowed sister and the mother of two young boys who has just come out of two years of mourning from her childhood friend and frail, departed husband. This is first major public appearance and she is so nervous.
Phoebe’s about to meet someone who bullied her husband in boarding school. She has a preconceived idea of how West Ravenel probably turned out in adulthood and is prepared to hate him with ever fiber of her being. But, she finds as she gets to know him that she couldn’t be more wrong. Let the fun begin as West is true to the man I have gotten such a kick out of through so many books now…self deprecating, hilarious, gorgeous, very capable and knowledgeable..what a sexy combo as sweet Phoebe is about to discover!
If you love a story that will leave you with just the perfect balance of everything you wanted in an excellant historical romance, this is a book you need to read. Since it’s part of a connected series, I would suggest reading the Ravenel series first because, why not, sooooo good. At least The Devil in Spring to get on board with the backstory for this one. I’m hoping there are more Ravenel books to come because I’ll just be so sad to say goodbye to any of these characters. Yes, I’m fangirling but Lisa Kleypas is a queen and her books are amazing! If you haven’t read one, what are you waiting for?
I read the Wallflowers books and looooved them so was excited to read about Sebastian and Evie daughter. I loved that they were in this story and I was able to see them after years of happily being together! I also enjoyed West story. I had been waiting on it and was more than satisfied with this book. Another great one fron Lisa Kleypas!
Love all of Lisa Kleypas books. Wonderful author!
This was a perfect waltz of a book. Kleypas shows, once again, why she is a master of the genre.
You know that feeling you get when you try to find words to describe/review a book by an author you auto one-click because every damn time their stories make you happy … I’m there people, and honestly, all I want to say is … if you haven’t read a book by Lisa Kleypas, have you really been reading at all?
• Phenomenal wit between H/h
• Outstanding story-line spark
• Strong heroine with a scoundrel hero
• Heart-achingly beautiful journey
• Emotional depth
I could go on, but do I really have to? …. Seriously, just read the book. Read the author. Enrich your mind and fill your heart. It’s worth every minute!
*****ALL the stars for West and Phoebe*****
“Brace yourself.”
Phoebe was ready to move on with a quiet life after mourning her late husband for 2 years. She really had no desire to meet West but fate had other plans. And so it began…
“She had feared this, a man with a will and power that matched her own, a man who would desire and possess every last part of her without mercy.”
West Ravenel is everything. THIS. This is why I love everything I’ve read so far from Lisa Kleypas. West is the star of this story, his character has come so far since the first book of this series.
As West can attest, Phoebe is clever and witty. I really enjoyed their banter. Lisa Kleypas’s characters are larger than life, she makes me care about them.
I was really hesitant about this book because West has been my favourite since Cold Hearted Rake and I didn’t want to be disappointed. I also read some early reviews which were unfavourable. But you know what? I went with my gut feeling. I loved it.
“You’re the center of a star, and the force of gravity keeps pulling me closer, and I don’t give a damn that I’m about to be incinerated.”
Excellent!! You can not go wrong with a Lisa Kleypas tale…ever!! Loved these characters and the plot of this book. Can’t wait to read the next!!
I fell in love with historical fiction by reading Lisa Kleypas books. I was super excited for this book to be released, finally Lady Clare – Phoebe meets West Ravenel. This book is terrific, it has you laughing at the banter of West and Phoebe. I absolutely loved this book.
Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite historical romance authors. Her Wallflower Series was my favorite, with The Devil in Winter the shining star for me, and I LOVED that we got a quick glimpse into what their lives look like now. So you can imagine how anxiously I was waiting for Devil’s Daughter to be released. It did not disappoint me. West and Phoebe’s story is romantic and humorous (the tea cup scene was particularly amusing to me), while also leaving me with a sense of calm. Like a warm hug.
We have seen West Ravenel in the previous 4 books really grow and mature and I was glad to finally get into his head. He is my favorite kind of hero. He feels unworthy and too damaged so he doesn’t want to “inflict” himself on any woman for life. Especially Phoebe. While all he can see about himself are the mistakes and transgressions from the past, others see his big heart, fantastic sense of humor, great work ethic and intelligence. I particularly enjoyed how natural and entertaining West’s rapport was with Phoebe’s children. I actually teared up when he explained to Phoebe why he couldn’t be with her. He really tried to stay away from her to protect her from his past.
I will admit to being a tiny bit confused at Phoebe’s almost repressed personality. I expected more fire or gumption from Sebastian and Evie’s daughter. But as she throws off the shadow of being Henry’s wife and all that being his caretaker entailed, I finally saw that sass I was expecting. As I got a good look at what her life had been like, I had a better understanding of why it took so long fir her to really come into herself.
A little bit of intrigue, fantastic characters, excellent humor and amazing sexy times make for addition to the Ravenel series. So worth the wait!
Count me among those who rave about Devil’s Daughter because I this book from its gorgeous cover (which is described in the book) to the mouthwatering recipe at the back. Five ecru-gold stars!
This firmly establishes Sebastian, Devil in Winter, as the best Lisa Kleypas hero ever and raises West Ravenel into my Top 3 behind Hardy Cates, the Blue-Eyed Devil. Sorry, Derek Craven, you’re down to #4.
Devil’s Daughter is funny, swoony, delightful, tender, enjoyable, worthy of functioning on three hours sleep kind of book. The food porn had me drooling. The farming and bookkeeping details had me enthralled. Farming! Bookkeeping! Amazing. Lisa Kleypas is a Writing Goddess, y’all!
It’s already a sprawling tale with lots of characters but I still want more. More of West and Phoebe. More of Sebastian and Evie. More of Fox, the kids, Galoshes, Daisy and her new novel, and more of Tom Severin. I want that ending to be longer and I WANT AN EPILOGUE.
Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas is book 5 in The Ravenels Series. This is the story of West and Phoebe. I have read (and Loved!) the previous books in the series, but feel you can make this a standalone if you wish to do so. Phoebe is the daughter of Sebastian St. Vincent from Devil in Winter, so if you have read that book, you do get to catch up with him if he was a past ‘book boyfriend’. Phoebe is a widow with two children, after her husband died from his illness. The marriage was a love match but not the hot to burn you type but of love and friendship. So she doesn’t know who West is at first but when she learns his name she knows he was someone that teased her husband when they were younger. But she also having an attraction to him that she hasn’t ever really felt before. West is a different man now then in his younger days but he isn’t convinced that he is good enough for Phoebe. But their passion is to hot to be ignored. So in love with Ms. Kleypas writing! She is my favorite author for sure.
When Phoebe meets Weston Ravenal at a family wedding, she initially wants nothing to do with him, even though he’s gorgeous and charming and ignites something in her long thought dead. This is the man that tormented her husband at boarding school when they were young. But her opinion of him changes as she gets to know him and sees him interacting with her two young children. How can this be the man who did all those terrible things to her husband?
While visiting, West shows Phoebe quite a bit about running a farming household and tenants which she soaks up like a sponge. I really loved Phoebe. She was really interesting in learning everything West had to teach her, and when that turns into a bit of making out, she realizes she has some real feelings for West.
West isn’t quite on board. While he wants Phoebe, his past history makes him hesitant to take things any farther, since he believes he will only hurt Phoebe and her children’s reputation.
Phoebe returns home and starts asking some questions about her estate’s finances, only to find that the books are unreadable and she calls for West to come and “help” her. And once he’s there, they let their feelings take control, at least until West really starts feeling something for Phoebe.
I grew up reading historical romances like these and it was great to go back to this genre. Devil’s Daughter was a wonderful read. The language is this book had me highlighting plenty of passages. A good friend turned me on to Lisa Kleypas years ago and the language in this book definitely demonstrates why I wouldn’t hesitate to read anything from his author. The story kept me interesting from the first page to the last.
Overall, a very nice reading experience that I thoroughly enjoyed.
An ARC was provided for review.
Huge fan of this author, and once again she does not disappoint. Redemption and forgiveness are major themes. The hero is flawed, but a truly good man at his core. The heroine is strong and fiercely loyal, but with the ability to be open and not allow prejudgement to cloud her ability to see and hear, understand and accept people as they are. I loved these two, and I was beyond thrilled to have my all-time favorite leading man (Sebastian) return in a supporting (and supportive) role. The time reading this book was well-spent. I can’t wait til it pops up on my “must re-read” list!
You know when you’ve been waiting for a certain book to come out and your anticipation has really built up and then you read it and it’s a let-down? This is definitely NOT one of those books! I have grown to love West Ravenel more with each book in the Ravenel series and Phoebe is the eldest daughter of Sebastian and Evie from one of my favorite books (Devil In Winter). The main characters were wonderful and the dialog was witty and fun and there was plenty of a certain former rake turned meddling papa (Sebastian). I caught myself smiling frequently while reading. If you are looking for a book that will just plain make you happy, then this is the book for you.
Hmm…I liked it but didn’t love it. I was so excited to start reading and maybe that’s my problem with it…my expectations were high and I’m afraid it did quite reach those.
I liked West and Phoebe. The slow burn did have it’s moments but I wanted more. I loved that one of my favorite character and book husbands made an appearance…God I love Sebastian.
I loved the fact that West wanted to be better for her. I did like she took what she wanted from him…after she is the daughter of a rake
It pains me to say this but I’m giving it -4*. I adore Lisa Kleypas and will read the next book in the series for sure!

Devil’s Daughter continues the tradition of great historical romance from Lisa Kleypas. Just like the Wildflowers series before this, I have been enjoying The Ravenels. I can always expect a strong female lead and an irresistible alpha male who gets his life turned upside-down.
Devil’s Daughter features Sebastian and Evangeline’s daughter, Phoebe, Lady Clare, who is now a widow with two young sons to raise. After a brief but meaningful meet-cute, Phoebe finally realizes that this man with the smoldering looks is actually West Ravenel, her deceased husband’s tormentor from boarding school. It’s so strange to meet a man who not only makes her blood heat, but also makes her skin crawl.
Phoebe and West are often thrown together as they await the wedding of Phoebe’s brother to West’s cousin. She discovers that the more she’s around him, the less he seems like the evil bully she had believed him to be. West is very gracious and quite capably in charge of the estate that his brother has recently taken over. Phoebe is constantly in awe of how great West is with her two children. Surely someone who is so patient and kind to these young boys couldn’t be as bad as her husband had said.
West knows that he made many mistakes as a young boy. To combat the pain of his childhood, he turned to causing pain to others, including young Lord Clare. When he discovers that Phoebe knows of his treatment of her husband while at boarding school, West doesn’t hold her actions against her. In fact, he expects her to blow him off. Instead, she sets out to seduce him.
Overall, this was everything I’ve come to expect from Lisa Kleypas. It was heart-warming and sexy, full of remorse and yet hopeful. The only this I didn’t quite get was how West’s treatment of Lord Clare was SUCH a big deal to Phoebe at first but then she just not only gets over it but decides to just jump into bed with him. It seemed a little incongruous to the rest of what was going on. I was completely in love with West and the way he interacted with Phoebe’s boys. Their relationship was so natural and just the highlight of the book for me.
Lisa Kleypas is flipping brilliant! Gosh, I’ve been waiting to read this book for hundred years and now that it’s over, I just want to have more!
Marry me, West!
At last, a story about West Ravenel in another delightful book by Kleypas. Great book with lots of emotion, humor and a love that wins over all the apprehensions on West’s part. Great to read the series in order because each book visits old friends and relatives from previous books.
I just finished Devil’s Daughter and thought it was a wonderfully satisfying book. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite authors so this is no surprise! The two main characters, Phoebe and West, are very likeable and have a simmering attraction. However, they see no path to a future together, making their feelings quite difficult to manage! If you are a fan of historical romance, I think you’ll like this very much.
