NAMED OF THE BEST ROMANCES BY OPRAH MAG!Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a … charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself…as none other than West Ravenel.
West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire…not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.
Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?
Only the devil’s daughter knows…

A great series
Omg!!! West’s story was amazing. I didn’t like him in the beginning of the series but he found his way to my heart. The merging of these 2 families is a delight to read. Everything started with Pandora and now this. The characters are lovely in this book and it really is a page-turner!!
I adored Devil’s Daughter! By the end of chapter one, I was completely in love with the story! It was so entertaining with witty and charming characters. I loved West and Phoebe together, their first meeting, her feelings about him, the antagonism and flirting between the two, it was perfection. Their relationship had an incredible build and I couldn’t get enough.
Phoebe is a young widow and mother to two young sons. West Ravenel is the childhood “bully” her late husband told her tormented him in school. When she meets him at a wedding she’s shocked to find he’s handsome, good with kids and charming. The two are a match but Phoebe has to overcome her doubts and be able to move on with her life. West doesn’t feel like he deserves happiness because of his wastrel past. He is a changed man but has to come to terms with his past. A really wonderful read as always by this author.
Wow!!! I’m not an audiobook girl but this one was fantastic!!!
And the story *swooned* It was so soo good. I absolutely enjoyed it. I smiled and laughed and fell in love.
There’s only a handful of historical romance novels that I’ve read. I’ve read 1 other by this author and she’s amazing. I’ll have to read/listen to her backlog.
I loved everything about this enchanting story. The characters are colorful and entertaining and I never wanted the story to end. I especially loved the narrator in the audio book, they made the story even better. Perfection!
My Thoughts:
It has been quite awhile since I’ve read a historical romance, but lately, I find myself drawn to them. I’ve been wanting to try Lisa Kleypas, because I think the covers of her books are so beautiful. I loved this one so much, that I immediately downloaded the next book in the series, Chasing Cassandra. Needless to say, I’ve found a new author to love and enjoy.
Devil’s Daughter was a tender and tentative romance that I devoured. Narrator, Mary Jane Wells, does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life, and she infuses them with personality.
Phoebe, Lady Clare, is a widow raising two precious little boys. She plans on marrying her deceased husband’s cousin, because of a promise that she made to him on his deathbed. However, once she attends her brother’s wedding, she meets and is drawn to the wickedly alluring West Ravenel. Phoebe is prepared to hate him, because she heard stories about how he used to bully her husband when they were in boarding school together. However, she soon learns that West is a good man, and is not the same person he use to be.
West thinks Phoebe is too good for him. She is of higher social standing, and West has quite the scandalous past. However, he quickly realizes that nothing can stand in the way of love.
I adored these two characters and didn’t want their story to end. Phoebe was such a lady. She was patient, kind, caring, and really sweet. Yet, she also knew how to stand on her own two feet. West won me over with the way he interacted and played with Phoebe’s sons. He treated everyone with respect and kindness, and the workers respected and admired him.
West had me swooning, and when he was with Phoebe, you could feel their combustible chemistry. Read Devil’s Daughter if you’re looking for a truly romantic read, with sizzling chemistry, loveable characters, and a story you will never want to end. Let the swooning commence!
I will always read Lisa Kleypas first – this book is another example of why. Loved seeing Sebastien and Evie again. Redemption comes in many forms, and West finally gets his, and wonderfully so.
Lisa Kleypas is a master of words. She brings to life the most amazing worlds, taking you back to another time with characters who are so singularly strong yet slightly imperfect in the best of ways and she doesn’t disappoint in Devil’s Daughter.
Phoebe, Lady Clare, has emerged from mourning her beloved husband’s death only to come face to face with her husband’s childhood tormentor, West Ravenel, at a family wedding. What’s even worse is that she is immediately charmed by him before learning his name and finds herself increasingly attracted to the man despite the betrayal she feels for it. West is also immediately taken with Lady Clare thus sparking a tension filled visit.
I think what I love most about Lisa Kleypas’ books are her strong heroines. She manages to create these amazing women who have strong wills and minds of their own when it wasn’t necessarily the norm for the time period. Phoebe is no wilting wallflower in this book. Yes, she mourned her dear Henry, but she’s ready to embrace the future and her role in managing her son’s estate after the boost of confidence she gets from being in West’s presence. I just loved the moments we see between her and her sons too. She’s such a wonderful mother.
“You’re all I think about. You’re all I see. You’re the center of a star, and the force of gravity keeps pulling me closer, and I don’t give a damn that I’m about to be incinerated.”
West Ravenel, a second son who grew up poor, is not set to inherit a title or land of his own. Instead he’s the estate manager for his brother’s lands. Given his past, the feeling of never quite belonging has stuck with him and influences his actions and feelings toward Phoebe. I just loved everything about West – his humor, his sweetness toward Phoebe’s boys and his passion for Phoebe.
Although I always find Kleypas’ books full of wit, I also enjoyed the bits of humor in this book, starting with Phoebe’s young son, Justin. Oh, what comes out of the mouth of babes! And the back and forth between Phoebe and West after their first kiss- priceless!
Of course I loved seeing and hearing from the Wallflower women, and Sebastian’s (Phoebe’s father) appearances were a special treat. Reading one scene between Sebastian and Evie in particular had me wanting to immediately reread Devil in Winter when I finished this book. I just love those two together.
You can’t go wrong with a Lisa Kleypas historical romance in my mind. Devil’s Daughter is a must read.

Devil’s Daughter is the fifth in The Ravenels series but can also be read as a stand alone. This is a story of overcoming the past and grief to find strength and happiness. Lady Phoebe married her childhood love knowing that time was limited due to his health issues but not letting that stop them. She is now a young widow with 2 young children and determined to take care of herself and her sons’ futures. West is a reformed rake, bully who is trying to overcome the reputation that he built. He falls hard for Lady Phoebe but doesn’t feel he deserves or her family. Phoebe realizes that West is the man who bullied her husband in school but that he is not the same. As the friendship between the two grows, they help each other to face their fears. What starts as friendship grows to love. I loved that the relationship wasn’t rushed, the realism that sex is not always sunshine and rainbows (it can hurt at first) and that problems just don’t magically disappear when you fall in love. This was a great story with a happily ever after.
I fell in love with Lisa Kleypas when I read the wallflower series and then became engrossed in the Ravenel series, so to see them entwined made me very happy. Wes Ravenel was an angry child who turned into a wastrel youth. He has since seen the error of his ways and is becoming really good at running his brother’s estate. He was part of the story in the previous book, where one couldn’t help but fall for him. Phoebe is the daughter of Evie and Devil St. Clair from the wallflower series. She married her very sickly childhood love (who was tormented in school by Wes) and is just coming out of mourning when she meets Wes. She should hate him, of course, but after she gets to know him, realizes there is more to him than her late husband’s bully. I loved how Phoebe came in to her own through her relationship with Wes and how he learned to think better of himself as the man he now is. Their chemistry was hot, but their love story was wonderful.
I love Lisa Kleypas, and the Wallflower books, in particular. This was an easy read, though somewhat predictable, with an ending that felt abrupt and a bit uninspired. Overall, not my favorite of her books, but still worth a read. It just seemed to lack the depth and complexity that she usually conjures in her characters and their relationships. Happy reading!
I’ve been waiting to read this book for a couple of months but I couldn’t find the time, so I decided to listen to the audiobook. This was the first book I listened too and I loved it. I also liked the book of course.
Devil’s Daughter tells the story of Lady Clare, but we know her already by the name of Phoebe, Sebastian and Evie’s daughter. After reading Devil in Spring I didn’t think that Kleypas would also write her story, but it made sense.
Phoebe has already two children and she is a widow. Her late husband Henry was her childhood sweetheart and they married soon because he had health issues. The story begins when Phoebe and her two children Justin and Stephen arrive to Eversby Priory, where her brother Gabriel is going to marry Pandora Ravenel. If you’ve read the book I mentioned before, you already know their story.
Anyway, when Phoebe gets there, she meets a person she has loathed during her teenage years: West Ravenel. The reason why Phoebe hates him is because West used to go to the same boarding school where her dead husband Henry went and used to bully him. She dislikes him because he treated Henry badly although he knew his health was declining day by day.
As Phoebe and West are around each other for the events pre and post wedding, she starts realizing that the man isn’t that bad. He’s smart and kind and her children like him, and soon she is infatuated with him and he is as well. Even her father, the Duke of Kingston, notices.
But Phoebe can’t be with West. Before Henry died, she promised him that she’ll marry his cousin Edward and she can’t marry her husband’s bully, can she?
Like every novel of this genre, our main couple is very attracted to each other but one of them doesn’t want to commit because of the same reasons. But then the person changes his mind and everything ends well. It may be cliched, but I love this type of novels where you know that to expect.
I really liked West and Phoebe and her children were super cute. At times I thought Phoebe was too composed and pensive, but then I realized that she’s a bit like her mother Evie and she had a reason to be like that. She has a strong will and she showed that she can be the boss when she wants to.
Unlike Devil in Spring, here we had some parallels with Devil in Winter. For example, (view spoiler) or we had (view spoiler). So far these are the parallels that come to my mind. West is also an ex libertine like Sebastian.
Speaking of Sebastian and Evie, I’m always grateful when Mrs. Kleypas inserts a scene or more with them as the main protagonists. We have a full chapter with them in this book and I love how strong and passionate they still are despite they are older. I still think they are the best characters ever of any of her series. So far no one can top them.
I hope we’ll also see more books about Evie and Sebastian’s kids. After all, we’ve only had Gabriel’s and Phoebe’s, but they have two other sons and a daughter.
100% my absolute favorite Kleypas book. I just adored it! West and Phoebe were complex and perfect. I adored both of their backstories, all they had to overcome and felt them each so much. I LOVED how much Phoebe took the lead and West’s arc was really everything. The farming details were brilliant, the chemistry electrifying, and the children–completely wonderfully written. I bought Justin and Stephen completely and adored all their interactions with Phoebe and West. The plot worked for me. This book is just a masterclass in historical romance. Totally loved it.
I love, love, Love this series! In this latest addition to her Ravenels series, Lisa Kleypas has placed one of my all time favorite characters, Sebastian from Devil in Winter, in the delightful position as father and grandfather while still maintaining his same charming and irreverent attitude toward societal rules. This is his daughter Phoebe’s love story and she does her father proud. The dialogue between her and Weston will make you laugh, cry, and become sensually captivated. The interactions between Weston and Phoebe’s young sons were heart warming, humorous, and unforgettable. This is a must read for all lovers of great storytelling by one of the best!
I love all of Lisa Kleypas’ books. They NEVER disappoint!
If you’re looking for a historical romance that happens to be both delightfully sweet and also incredibly steamy, Devil’s Daughter is precisely what you’re looking for.
Whenever someone asks for a recommendation for historical romance, Lisa Kleypas is always one of the first authors to pop up. I have been a huge fan of this author since the 1990s and I still love all of her books to this day. But I do have to say that the Wallflowers series, especially Devil in Winter, is an all time favorite. So to get another book including Sebatian St. Vincent is always a plus.
I absolutely adored Phoebe and West’s love story! There is a bit of an indirect history between these two. West was a former nemesis of Phoebe’s deceased husband and she had heard all about the horrible antics and pranks West use to play on him. So the initial meeting was not the greatest, but the more time they spent with each other, Phoebe started to see him in a different light. As for West, he was infatuated with Phoebe from the very start, but he felt unworthy and believed his past reputation would hurt Phoebe and her two sons, so he tried to stay away. I loved that it was actually Phoebe who initiated a more romantic relationship. Once West gave in to their intense chemistry, it was full steam ahead! Unfortunately, West’s feelings of unworthiness comes into play once again, but he was set straight by the best person ever!!
There were some more to their story, a bit of intrigue and suspense that definitely kept me engaged, but ultimately it was the chemistry and intense connection between Phoebe and West that made this book for me.
All the secondary characters were wonderful; Phoebe’s two sons were just adorable especially when West was involved with them, talk about swoon worthy! I loved all the scenes with Evie and Sebatian!! Overall, I just loved this book.
Lisa is turning into a favorite author!!!!
The entire series is great
