The greatest trick the First Vampire ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn’t exist. If you enjoyed the Blade or Underworld movies, you will love the Shade of Devil series. Before the now-infamous Count Dracula ever tasted his first drop of blood, Sorin Ambrogio owned the night. Humanity fearfully called him the Devil.Cursed by the gods, Sorin spent centuries bathing Europe in oceans of … Devil.
Cursed by the gods, Sorin spent centuries bathing Europe in oceans of blood with his best friends, Lucian and Nero, the world’s first Werewolf and Warlock—an unholy trinity if there ever was one. Until the three monsters grew weary of the carnage, choosing to leave it all behind and visit the brave New World across the ocean. As they befriended a Native American tribe, they quickly forgot that monsters can never escape their past.
But Dracula—Sorin’s spawn—was willing to do anything to erase Sorin’s name from the pages of history so that he could claim the title of the world’s first vampire all for himself. Dracula hunts him down and slaughters the natives, fatally wounding Sorin in the attack. Except a Shaman manages to secretly cast Sorin into a healing slumber.
For five hundred years.
Until Sorin is awoken by a powerful Shaman in present-day New York City. In a world he doesn’t understand, Sorin only wants one thing—to kill Dracula and anyone else who stands in his path. When the descendant of an infamous vampire hunter steps into his life, Sorin is torn between conflicting feelings in his heart—revenge or love. But to a woman like Victoria Helsing, it might just be considered a bloody good date.
The streets of New York City will flow with rivers of blood, and the fate of the world rests in the hands of the Devil, Sorin Ambrogio.
Because this town isn’t big enough for the both of them.

Once again, my review most likely will not be received well. However, I’ve always said I will only write honest reviews, so here is where I keep my word.
I believe most writers have a niche, a strong-suit where their writing is at its best. They may be able to move outside it by a small amount, but for the most part, there is one type of storyline where their hearts lie. Staying within that niche seems to serve them best. Some authors can do well in multiple genres if they contain some of the same elements. For instance, a writer can be excellent at Urban Fantasy using a small amount of sex and/or romance, then hop over to Paranormal Romance and still do well. That usually comes from the ability to write romantic scenes well enough to go from mild to heavy with no issues.
There are, however, certain types of storylines where romance has almost no place, particularly in the UF genre. These storylines concentrate on the action, intrigue, and imaginative characters to capture a reader’s attention. Inventing creatures, such as monsters, gods, or mythological beings who comprise a world of exciting supernatural adventures, is where they excel. These have a definite place in the UF genre and can be so well-loved they become classics in their own time. An author capable of creating this type of series has most likely found his strong-suit and would do best to stay with it.
Unfortunately, this author didn’t do that. I don’t know whether it was boredom with his famous Templeverse world, or whether it was just a desire to spread his wings that enticed Shayne to take this chance, but I do understand the drive to at least try. But, whatever the reason, it was a brave experiment that, sadly, failed. At least in this reader’s opinion.
If a writer is uncomfortable writing a sex scene, if they don’t have a feel for the necessary elements, then they should leave it to those who do. A botched sex scene can ruin the entire flavor of a book. And when the book becomes nothing but gratuitous sex (whether it be the act or just in the dialogue), it then loses any semblance of a storyline. You suddenly find yourself with what has become an unfortunate attempt that went far afield of their comfort zone. The best you can do is hope that they realize their mistake and goes back to their true calling.
One of my rules when writing my review is I will not give away any storyline details. However, I will say this; if you read book one, then very few of your questions will find a satisfactory answer in book two. And if you were hoping that book two would bring some real action, you may need to wait for book three.
I will be thrilled to buy the next Nate Temple book the moment it hits the shelves. I am now, and always will be, a big fan of Shayne Silvers and his Nate Temple Universe in all its variations. That I cannot recommend this series does not change that. Do I feel bad? Yes. I feel horrible about this. But I have known Shayne Silvers as an author for a long time now. The one thing that makes him the consummate author is, he prefers the truth. He knows catering to his feelings won’t help him be a better writer.
In conclusion, I’d like to say that Shayne Silvers is an excellent writer who can create some of the most exciting UF stories, and he should be willing to take that step outside his usual style. But he needs to take more time to learn how to write the new types of stories he has kicking around in his head. The time will come when Shayne Silvers will be an unparalleled PNR author, I am sure. Unfortunately, that time isn’t now. I’m sorry, Shayne.
What a ride ~ I laughed, I cried, I melted like a single girl in heat! A little different than what I’m used to reading from Shayne! Definitely not for the kiddos but I absolutely loved every exhilarating, titillating page from beginning to end! I read it in a day, start to finish, I literally could not put it down! I’m in love with the female characters, flaws and all…we’ve all been that blind puppy dog, lost in lust or love! The story is fresh and with the sprinkle of some familiar monsters it’s weirdly nostalgic as well as entertaining! If I had one suggestion it would be to have more descriptions of the surroundings/city, I realize it’s not as important as the story but I really like to visualize what I’m reading and I had a lot of blank spots in my pictures, if that makes sense to anyone 😉 otherwise well done Shayne Silvers, you freaking rock!
What a fantastic series to read. Shayne Silver’s books are never anything less than brilliant and he certainly hit the ground running with this one. Just like the first book this one carries you along and you find yourself rapt up on a proper roller-coaster ride.
The story is strong with a twist no-one will see coming.
Shayne Silvers is back, and Oh Dear Lord, is Devil’s Cry: Shade of Devil Book 2 totally fantastic. You’ve got a descendent if the most famous vampire hunter, Victoria Helsing, Dracula, the false claimant to first vampire, his actual predecessor Sorin Ambrogio (a perfect character if ever there was one, exciting and wonderfully complex), action, thrills and even some Helsing-Ambrogio romance in the making. This is a totally fun book. Superbly written, with a great plot, a perfect cast and perfect world-building. Definitely recommended.
An Epic Story line from a truly gifted author!
Every book of Master Shayne Silvers surprises me with his ability to get within the skin of his characters! Especially the first vampire and no reference to go by! The story line is a web of twists and turns that will leave you breathless especially where the devils are concerned. Another masterpiece brought to you by Shayne Silvers!
Devil’s Cry : Book #2 Shade of Devil Series : Shayne Silvers.
Shade Of Devil, Devil’s Cry Will Have Readers Dying To Sink Their Teeth In!
Unparalleled Astounding & Astonishing.
A Fresh New Twist To The Vampire Lore!
Holy Gods, Goddesses, Vampire’s, Skin Walkers, Werewolves & Nephilim Vamps, this book blew me away with this novel’s danger-factor skyrocketing in triplicate³! With book 2 there’s the added danger and excitement of multiple foes & the unknown result of multiple friendlies.
Just what will the outcome be?
Its Heaven, Hell and ecstasy, all rolled Into One magnificent book!
But with not much a certainty for Sorin as he struggles for revenge, dominance and claiming back what’s rightfully his he has to find his feet, heart & head with this new bonding thread pulling him in two different directions to 2 strong independent beautiful women, Werewolf Natalie whom he cares deeply for and will protect with his life, through their bond she is his soul.
Then there’s Vampire Hunter Victoria.
He is totally enamoured with Victoria and knows she owns his heart, and through their bond she is his heart, but he honestly doesn’t know how can a man love 2 women at once? Welcome to the new Millennium Sorin, a lot has changed, but will this love triangle tear his heart & soul apart?
I thought I knew what Shayne Silvers books were all about, after all I had been following him for some years now, read the synopsis of all book, but hadn’t the chance to read any of the 9 books of his I already owned out of 4 incredible series.
1). Nate Temple:
A super sharp & witty, silver tongued snarky playboy billionaire wizard with a rag tag bunch of Supernatural friends in the highest of high and of the lowest of low places!
2). Callie Penrose : a middle-class sultry and sexy as sin wizard-in-training working for the Vatican.
3). Quinn MacKenna : a black magic arms dealer from the mean streets of Boston with exceptional DNA & Parents to boot : all 3 of series interconnect in a universe called The Templeverse.
4). And last but not least the one were here to talk about Sorin Ambrogio and the ‘Shade of Devil’ Series Devil’s Cry!
Sorin’s the very first Vampire created. This man was tricked and cursed by the Greek Gods simply for loving a woman.
This newly gifted hunter takes it out on the people, bathing the paths of Europe, and drowning her in blood. Humanity in turn labels this beast ‘The Devil!’
Then one fateful day a meeting occurs.
A hunter of the supernatural, a man named Dracula & his companion Lucian track and watch the Devil for days (now living in a remote cave far from humans).
Lucian notes Sorin’s feeding only on the blood of game and burying the animals with respect, thanks and gratitude.
Intrigued, Lucian walks up introducing himself. Sorin tells the men his heartfelt story asking if they’d join with him, Lucian say yes, for I too hold a secret; changing into a werewolf before their very eyes!
Dracula astonished had no idea he was travelling with the very creatures he hunts & decides to join too, becoming The Devil’s Spawn and the first ever sired vampire! But after years of blood shed & carnage Sorin required a change, leaving Europe & Castle Ambrogio to Dracula.
Starting a fresh in the New World of The Americas. But it was not enough for Dracula, he needed it all, He had to be known as the first, the biggest & baddest vampire, tracking Sorin down and killing his Native American Indian Tribe, wife & Son. Unbeknown to Dracula Medicine Man Deganawida
Wizards, Arms Dealers, Vampires & Devil’s be damned, but I’ve got to say I’m totally blown away after reading 4 of this authors books and had no idea how bloody good they truly were or the type of characters I’d find in droves written across his pages!
Shayne Silvers is a Phenomenally Diabolical Mad Literary Genius
With a silver‐tongue like that’s as shape as of a razors edge that can rip shreds off the best of them with that wise ass humour, witt & snark, that crack you up laughing till the tears sting your eyes, your stomach, cheeks and jaw hurt like Hell from laughing so hard, then he’ll make you bawl like a newborn babe the next moment with a simple flourish of his magically enhanced pen…! (Yes I wrote Pen Maestro, not that other fully loaded instrument that has nothing to do with writing)! Lol!
Why the Hell did it take me 2-3 years to finally read Obsidian Son & Blood Debts (from the Nate Temple Series, Sea Breeze (from the Phantom Queen Diaries) and Devil’s Dream & Devil’s Cry (from the Shade Of Devil Series) all within the last 30 days? Don’t get me wrong, I knew I’d love his books, but If I’d only known just how much, I would have re-prioritize my ARC List for authors long ago!
The way Silvers’ creative mind conceives ideas and weaves it all together in an intricate story is as masterful as the internal workings of an old fashioned clock with its interconnected wheels and cogs constantly turning and spinning working in harmony and is simply astounding & astonishing.
Every story has the capacity to overwhelm with its multi-faceted layer of surprises twists and turns that stupefies and amazes the reader leaving them utterly ravenous and hungry for more.
Please Sir, I Want Some More…!
Many of these characters maybe well known, but not quite in the same light a Maestro Silvers paints them.
His gift of writing is a true work of art & I think the Gods & Goddesses gifted him not one, but two muses, one for each half of him, one to sit on each shoulder inspiring & reading him so he can torture us! One with a halo for all the good, nice, caring and kindness & brilliant stories, the other with its horn’s and pitchforked tail for all the bad, evil, wickedness ways of leaving us on cliff hangers & writing twist we just can’t see coming! Then smack in the middle is Shayne himself, whom I swear has both halo, horns & pitchfork tail with a Devil’s smile!!!
When writing for the ‘Templeverse’ it’s probably Huginn and Muninn, and when writing ‘Shade of Devil’ its Victoria & Natalie!
This guy is phenomenal & has totally blown me away in each series, now I just need to read a Callie Penrose Book to top it all off! I have not enjoyed reading a series nor had so much fun reading since my first Matthew Reilly full-on high octagon action mega blockbuster, with Jack West Jr (a non clumsy & goofy Dr Indiana Jones with SAS skills). It’s similar in ways with the history & historical characters, just minus the magic, the fantasy and the supernatural!
There’s is no higher complement I can pay an author, than to say a heartfelt thank you to them, for their work has truly impacted me in such a unique way that not may others can.
I become so enthralled, wrapped up and intertwined in the action making it hard to deduce where the story begins and I end as we become one, a part of the story!
I love nothing more than feeling this phenomena as my 46 year old pain-riddled disabled body becomes one with your story physically and emotionally experiencing the tremendous odyssey Sorin, Natalie and Victoria live as I ‘Skin Walk’ within a body or (if the author is truly talented) in multiple bodies of the characters or right along side them as myself having a full magical fantasy action adventure taking a trip throughout the pages of their and our combined histories, meeting and creating new friends and foes, traipsing to far off worlds places and times, visiting sites impossible for one such as myself to see and feeling my body joining in high octagon action sequences that I’d normally be unable to participate along in, running, jumping, throwing punches, letting loose round house kicks, while kicking ass fighting those wretched witches of the cauldron or Dracula’s vamps and goons, helping to cast a spell with Nosh & join in on a rain dance. Changing shape & form as my body transforms, bones breaking extending in shape and size, musculature developing and lengthening as the hair body grows a thick rugged layer of stunning white shaggy fur, my teeth and jaws elongate, fangs growing like small stalactites & stalagmites, saliva dripping as I growl ready tear out a vile witches or her familiar’s throat, protecting me and mine. And the ultimate high of highs as Sorin’s fangs deeply sink into my long slender neck sucking, pulling & suckling my ultra powerful werewolf sweet life force while experiencing the most erotic climatic waves of joy, pure bliss & agony as my body shudders through the ecstasy of heaven & the painful tortures of hell as wave after luscious wave of tiring orgasms rip through my body leaving me as lifeless as a rag doll, but totally sated & energised all at the same time.
Experience all the characters participate in creating the wildest ride and adventure of my life wrapped up into the pages of one incredible book.
I RATE DEVIL’S CRY
6 Out Of 5 !
IT’S BETTER THAN BOOK 1
Out of this world and worth the price,
don’t buy the book, buy the whole damned series, you won’t regret it!!!
I received ARC copy of this book from the author and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

This book is a must read!! I really enjoyed it. You have it all, vampires (the FIRST vampire, no less), werewolves, Mr. Hyde, Nephilim, OH MY!! It’s funny, snarky at times, all around fun and plenty of action to go around. This is not part of the Templeverse (Author’s other books), it’s something different. If you love Templeverse, read it…If you don’t…read this one, it has something for everyone.
I’ll admit I had a harder time getting into book one. This one, however, sucked me in from the start and the action rarely stopped.
Sorin’s staked his claim in New York but things are quickly becoming complicated, personally and… professionally. With a “fool proof” plan to deal with Dracula, Sorin sets out to round up his allies, and make some new ones as well, while also attempting to deal with the women in his life- all of whom are very, very scary.
I’m not a super fan of the “vampire bond” idea (and to be fair neither is Sorin) but it comes along with the subject matter. To me this concept always feels a touch like the old insta-love trope, at best, or something far more sinister, at worst, but I trust Shayne Silvers enough that I fully expect that there is either a good reason for it or that the idea will be flipped on its head.
Absolutely addictive! I couldn’t put it down! Highly entertaining and unpredictable
Once you start you won’t want to put this down…. a very different vampire story that we have grown up with…. Sorin the First Vampire is out to take down Dracula… his first sire..his son as it were…. this is the 2nd book in the series and it will leave you craving for the next instalment…. Shayne Silvers is a magical wordsmith…. this has all his humour, magic and snark…. not to be missed…
This is the second book in a dynamic new series by Shayne Silvers. I really enjoyed the continuation of this story line and I CAN NOT wait for the next installment.
The story includes magic, vampires, Greek Gods and unexpected assorted figures from history. I hate spoilers and refuse to ruin anyone’s reading experience. Keep in mind that you never know who will appear in a Shayne Silvers novel.
I do want to add that this book includes a very few scenes of adult play time. I tend to skip these parts , but I believe it’s an important part of the characters *personalties*. It wasn’t useless, gratuitous sex, it advanced the story.
If you enjoy fantasy with some snarky characters from all over the literary genres I think you will enjoy this series. Happy Reading!
I’ve been a fan of this author almost since the beginning. I have to admit to a little skepticism when he started a new vampire series; I’m a little over vampires. I should have trusted the author however. He’s turned the vampire legend on its head, and he’s made his own legend. I love Sorin and his sidekicks, and I admit I liked him better in this book than the first one. This book deepens Sorin’s past, and it brings up more questions…just like this author always tends to do! LOL! Fair warning: there is more heat in this one if that isn’t your thing, but you should still try it. I’m looking forward to the next, and I hope it continues this interesting pace. Highly recommend! I was provided a copy, but I bought it anyway.
Devils Cry is an absolute one click! You not only have Sorin who is the very first vampire, but you also have werewolves, witches, Greek Gods and so much more set in New York City. I’m pretty sure Central Park will never be the same! This one had a naughty twist that I absolutely loved! Shayne always delivers with a fantastic storyline and characters that you can’t help but fall in love with, he takes you on an adventure and just when you think you know what will happen next he surprises you with an unexpected tweak! I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc, but I loved it so much I purchased my own copy!
I loved this book! There was so much happening, it really grabs your attention and then you’re hooked! I love the characters, especially Dr. Stein and her wooden spoon! Sorin is the best. He’s smart, protective, bold, crafty, a little confused about his bond to his ‘devils’, and has impressive plans involving Central Park. My favorite characters beside the above mentioned, are Adam, Eve and Hyde. This action-packed book is full of danger, suspense, vampires, werewolves, witches, Nephilim, mystery, magic, war, laugh-out-loud humor and more, This series is addicting!
Move over Bram, Shayne’s vampire can eat yours for lunch! Brace yourself for a book that will keep you turning the pages and late for work tomorrow!
Shayne Silvers twists even more myths, fairytales, and legends into something fresh, exciting, and fun to read with his usual flair and unique perspective in Devil’s Cry. This continuation of his Shade of Devil series had me on the edge of my seat wanting more! Shayne flat out shows his diabolical side in this book. Sorin is fed up and ready to take back what’s his. Dracula’s days are numbered as the first vampire starts to put him in his place. Dr. Stein is hysterical and the two women in Sorin’s life are going to twist him in knots before this is over. Something tells me he’s loving every minute of it though! Dating a famous vampire hunter? Check! Got something steamy going on with a cute werewolf? Check? Oh boy….
Shayne proves he can write some steamy scenes in this book. While it definitely does not overshadow the story, it does add some elements we haven’t really seen in his books much before. Keep that glass of cold water or fan handy! You’re going to need it!
Another AMAZING book by Shayne! You can’t put it down!
Devil’s Cry grabs your attention (or should I say pierces your soul) and doesn’t let go. It’s exhilarating and takes vampire lore and breathes new life into it. Sorin has quickly became one of my favorite characters. He’s snarky yet vulnerable, has old-world charm, yet is sexy as all get out; he’s arrogant and brutal, yet kind and loyal. Devil’s Cry takes you on a fast-paced, gut-wrenching and brutal path, that has many twists as Sorin fights to reclaim his rightful title and reign as First Vampire. This is one wild ride you don’t want to miss and one you won’t want to get off of.
I thought everything had been said about vampires. I was wrong. The second book in the series (get the first one!) and the ride continues. Shayne silvers delivers his usual completely unpredictable book with twists and turns galore. This is one of the few authors that I can’t anticipate. This is a must read.
There’s no place like home
The worlds first vampire, Sorin Ambrosio,, is awake and ready to take on his snot nosed, upstart of a creation, Dracula. After Dracula decimated his own followers leaving nearly every vampire in New York City dead, Sorin must regroup and craft a plan to bring his sworn enemy to his knees. What he learns very quickly is that the definition of devil and angel are a lot closer than they may first seem. Sometimes you’ve got to turn an angel into a little bit of a devil in order to win the battle. Sorin is going to attempt to do just that, all while juggling a vicious ex he may or may not be able to trust, a puppy with hurt feelings, lots of new kids on the block, and a squatter of epic proportions in his house who needs evicting—oh and throw in a vindictive Olympian just for fun! The worlds first vampire may have bitten off more than he can chew this time, but with a little help from his friends, all angels and devils alike, he just might get to go home for the holidays!
